Shared GoalsPROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN

Why Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women Resonates With Me

• I have experienced gender inequality and am working hard to overcome its adverse effects• I am looking to enter the male dominated field of Computer Science and Programming• Social injustice is an emotionally important topic for me• Women are still discriminated against in many areas of American society and other parts of the world• Women need to be empowered to live up to their full potential• Gender equality is a fundamental human right

Features of Social Media That Can Be Uniquely Applied to This Goal

Three of the social media resources available to educate and promote gender equality

• TED ( www.ted.com ): Education through video lectures• Presents important topics with different perspectives• Allows people to see women in successful roles

• FACEBOOK ( www.facebook.com ): Education through word of mouth• Allows important issues of gender equality to be spread infinitely to billions of people very quickly

• YOUTUBE ( www.youtube.com ): Education through entertaining video media• Allows education in formats that do not seem educational for people who are resistant to such ideals
