2015 SPE Thermoforming Conference Keynote Speaker Tuesday, September 1 11 a.m.Noon Mark Harrington Owner of Storyland Studios From Square Wheels to Not Quite Rocket Science! A Presentation on Speciality Fabrication Using a Variety of Plastics Related Medias Storyland Studios (http://storylandstudios.com) is a custom fabrication company that designs and creates distinctive, unique and largescale figures and sculptures for films, amusement parks and corporations. Based in Southern California, Storyland Studios employs a wide range of medias and disciplines to build product using a nonconventional method of fabrication. Their products include movie props and sets, exhibits, trade show booths, theme park and architectural elements and retail merchandising displays. Mark’s presentation will address the ways and means to achieve end results from a variety of different methods. Photos from some of Storyland Studios’ projects that demonstrate the use of a very broad toolbox will be shared: utilizing billet foams, spray foams, pourable foams, resins, fibreglassing, rotational molding, some sprayable speciality finishes (silver nitrate), along with highlypolished powdered metals. The presentation will also touch on some simple outofthebox vacuum forming techniques and other methods that Storyland Studios has successfully utilized to bring product to fruition. Mark Harrington is the owner of Storyland Studios along with his high school sweetheart and wife of 38 years. Mark has been involved in speciality fabrication for 25 years, making lots of square wheels and some round ones, too. Presently enrolled in the U.H.K. (University of Hard Knocks), Mark doesn't expect to graduate until he breathes his last breath and then steps into eternity. Mark believes that the University is a fabulous teacher, if not a little on the pricey side. He is, however, diversified in enough fields to consider himself to have enough real world experience to be dangerous in lots of areas. When not at work or at home, Mark can be found hanging out with his wife or grandchildren or with the blue hair crew at the motocross track.
