WhatistheVeterans’MusicClub?

•TheVeteransMusicClub(VMC)wasfoundedbytwomusiclovingVeterans,NickyWinterand

SimonLord,topromotethebenefitsofplayingandcomposingmusic,peer-on-peersupport

andperforminginfrontofaliveaudience.

• Membershipof theVMC is free toallVeterans - family, friendsandnon-Veteranscanalso

joinasfriendsofVMCbypayinganannualmembershipfee(costtobeconfirmed).

• IfVeteranssimplyenjoy listening tomusicormeetingwith fellowVeterans, theyaremore

thanwelcometojoinforfreetoo.

• VMC is also aiming to create employment opportunities within the charity from 2017

onwards.

• TheVMCisworkingcloselywithanumberofwellestablishedVeteranscharitiesinordertooffera

creativeoutletforallthoseVeteranswillingtoparticipate.

• Torehabilitate,throughmusic,leavingandformermembersofHerMajesty’sForcesaffectedbyphysicalwoundsandinjury,post-traumaticstressdisorderandpsychologicalissuesofdisempowermentresultingfromservicelife;

• TopromotetheadvancementofmusicaleducationofleavingandformerservingmembersofHerMajesty’sArmedforcesthroughallowingthemtheopportunitytoperformaspartofmusicalensemblesthroughconcertsandotherliveperformances,theopportunitytocreateandperformnewmusic,theopportunitytolearnhowtoplaymusicalinstruments,additionalmusicalinstrumentsorimprovetheircurrentlevelofmusicalcapability,andtheopportunitytoprovidepeer-on-peersupporttofellowleavingandformerservingmembersofHerMajesty’sArmedforces;

• Veterans'MusicClub’sfirstprojectistheVeterans'OrchestrabasedinPoole,Dorset.

• The aim is to build amusical community to support Veteranswhomight be dealingwith depression,isolation,unemployment,PTSD,anddrugandalcoholaddiction.

• AstructuredclassicalrepertoireprogrammecreatedbytheBournemouthSymphonyOrchestra’sMusicalDirector,FrankZielhorst,willincreaseselfesteem,boostconfidenceanddevelopnewlifeskills.

• OpentoallVeterans,whetheringoodhealthandemployed,orisolatedandneedingsupport.

• Theorchestradoesnotdiscriminateonage,rank,sexorservice.

• TheorchestrawillbemadeupofmaleandfemaleVeteranswitharangeofmusicalabilities*.

• TheVeteranswhoneedsupportwillbementoredbyotherVeteransandanetworkofsupportteams.

• MusicallygiftedVeteranswillunderpintheorchestraandmentorthosewithlessexperience.

• Thememberswillbeactivelyencouragedtocomposetheirownmusic.

• Theaim is todeliver threepublicconcerts in2016withtheVeteransperformingaclassical repertoiresupportedbytheBournemouthSymphonyOrchestra.

• The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is the official partner of the Veterans’ Orchestra andcurrentlyholdsthetitleof“TheWorld’sFavouriteOrchestra”*

• Lisa Tregale, Head of Education and Participation, is fully supporting the VMC in establishing theVeterans'Orchestrathroughmatchedfunding,reducedmusicianfeesandadministrationassistance.

TheVeterans’OrchestraDocumentary• The Veterans' Orchestra documentary will be an ongoing project directed by Malcolm Brinkworth*,followingthemembersfromtheirhumblebeginningsthroughtotheirfirstconcertandbeyond.

• ThroughtheirstorieswewillaimtobetterunderstandhowdifferentVeteranscopewiththetransitionfromlifeinthearmedforcesbacktocivilianlife.

• TheaimistohighlighttheproblemsthatmanyVeteransfaceafterleavingtheservicesandthepositivesupporttheyhaveaccesstothroughestablishedcharities,theNHS,peersandthegeneralpublic.

• This will be a film about hope and salvation as wewatch the Veterans transform their lives throughmusic.

NickyWinter

Nickywas commissioned in the LifeGuards and sawactive service in the Suez and EOKA campaigns in1956.Hehasspent20yearsworking inthefieldofaddiction,mostrecentlyworkingwithVeteranswhohavesubstancemisuseissues.

Nickyhasagreatpassionformusicandwasanaward-winningsingerduringhisschoolyearsandearly20s.He is bringing awealthof chemical dependency knowledge anddecadesof experience to the team, inadditiontoafineselectionofregimentalties!

SimonLord

Simonjoinedthearmyin1998,andwascommissionedintheRoyalSignalsgoingontoserveinNorthernIrelandandIraq.ForthelastdecadehehaslivedacrossSEAsiaworkingintheprivatesecuritysector.

During his late teens and early 20s, Simon enjoyed success as a club DJ duringManchester’s seminal1990’s house music scene and also worked in a recording studio. Simon continues to compose dancemusictracksandoccasionallyDJs.Hismosttreasuredmusicalpossessionishis12”vinylcollection.
