Planning your perfect weddingBy Shannon Robin

At a young age, many girls start dreaming of meeting their prince charming and waltzing down the aisle to a perfect wedding. Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but can also be great fun.

The key is to be organized. Our Wedding Extravaganza edition is a tool

to connect you with area merchants who make it their business to create memorable weddings.

Using the services of an experienced wed-ding planner can save time and worry as you tackle the wedding to-do list. Planners offer support and peace of mind while creating the day you’ve dreamed of. They will help you stick to your budget and can recommend suppliers who are trustworthy. Best of all, you can still have a life while a planner looks after the details of your wedding.

Creating the guest list may be one of your biggest challenges. It should be based on your budget and the size of your venue, but there can

be family pressure to invite more people than you would like. One suggestion for dealing with this is to give each family a specific number of guest invitations. You’ll need to decide whether children are welcome as well as which of your guests will be invited to bring a date to the wedding.

Once you have a tentative guest list, you’ll need to secure your venue and officiants.

Ceremonies can be held in churches, halls, banquet rooms, specialty venues and the beautiful outdoor spaces that surround us. Be prepared to pay a deposit with your booking.

The theme of your wedding will determine the type of space you want to investigate. You may need more than one location to accommo-date the service, reception, dinner and dance.

Consider the Bayshore Inn Resort and Spa, Castle Mountain Resort, Coleman Legion banquet hall, Crowsnest Mountain Weddings (SpringBreak Flower Farm), Heritage Acres Farm Museum or Sierra West Cabins & Ranch

Vacations to host your festivities. Some offer all-in-one services while others

focus on specialty services. Each has a distinct atmosphere, whether you’ll be indoors or out-side, and all offer great packages.

Are you nervous yet? The date is set!Choosing wedding rings is a personal experi-

ence — your ring is a symbol of marriage you’ll wear every day. Take time to browse until you find rings you truly love. Allow plenty of time for them to be sent off for custom sizing.

What style of wedding dress have you dreamed of? Trends for 2015 include detachable tulle overskirts, romantic off-the-shoulder necklines, cap sleeves and illusion sleeves. Along with traditional white and blush, you’ll find dresses in shades of blue, grey and green this year.

Give yourself several months to shop. The sooner you start, the better. Keep in mind that

Offering both indoor and outdoor options, the setting at SpringBreak Flower Farm

and catering by Country Encounters will make your big day absolutely incredible!

alterations will typically take several weeks. In your budgeting, remember to factor in not only the price tag on the

dress, but also the cost of alterations, your veil, shoes, lingerie and jewelry. You’ll know you’ve found “the dress” when you step out of the dressing

room in a gown that makes you feel more beautiful than you’ve felt before. And, when your mom starts to cry.

Your ideal dress may be one perfectly preserved and accented with sentimentality. Some of our mothers and grandmothers wore stunning dresses, and you may have tried one on many times in anticipation of being a bride yourself.

Are you planning to lose weight before your big day? A dress that fits now is the way to go. Alterations can be done to accommodate weight loss, but it’s not as simple when you aren’t able to squish into a dress that’s two sizes too small. Be sure you’ll be comfortable in your dress of choice for what will be a long day. It doesn’t hurt to think of difficulties that may arise when you need to make a trip to the washroom.

Consider what you’d like your bridal party to wear in terms of colour and style. Imagine what will make these important women look and feel spectacular, and try to find a dress that will flatter everyone. An alternative is to choose the colour and let each bridesmaid find something that works for her body type.

Consider Ruffles Boutique for semi-formal styles, shoes, jewelry and accessories for the bride, bridal party and everyone wanting to look her best on your wedding day. You will also need to look after formal wear for the groom, the flower girl and the ring bearer.

While many moments of your wedding day will be etched in your memory forever, you’ll want to check out the portfolios of local photogra-phers to capture these moments in living colour. Choose a photographer whose work shows imagination and creativity, in the style you desire.

Consider Jennifer Hawkins Photography to look after recording the day for you. Photographers are busy, so book well in advance.

Spend time with your photographer and be sure they know what kind of shots you want and expect. Ask about package pricing, editing proce-dures and turnaround time in advance so there are no surprises.

What type of atmosphere would you like to create for your reception? You might choose a formal dinner or a picnic in the mountains. The possi-bilities are endless.

If you’re planning on a dance with live music or a DJ, make time to check out possibilities through YouTube to ensure they play the type of music you’re after, and most importantly that they play it well. Book early — the best bands get snapped up fast.

Once you’ve thought about the menu, you’ll need to book a caterer. Consider Cast Iron Grill, Crowsnest Mountain Weddings (Country Encounters) or Waffle Wagon for delicious meals made to your specifi-cations, and mobile catering options. You’ll find they offer varied menus along with signature dishes and desserts.

Remember to preorder platters and buns for your midnight lunch and pre-wedding festivities.

Do ask your guests if they have any food sen-sitivities that need consideration. They will be most grateful, and many caterers are happy to offer specialty items such as gluten-free dishes.

To complement a fine meal, you may choose to offer a variety of wines, spirits and beer to your guests. Consider A & B Liquor or Greg’s Liquor & Cold Beer Store to look after your needs and permits.

Speaking of paperwork, you’ll also need to purchase a wedding licence from an agency, such as such as Crowsnest License & Registry or Pincher License & Registry, within three months of your wedding date. You may also choose to secure an Alberta marriage commis-sioner if you are not using clergy services.

To create the perfect decor at your ceremony and reception, you’ll need to think about bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, sprays, table decorations, tablecloths and linens, chair covers and accessories.

Whether you’d like a formal, tiered cake or something that expresses your individuality,

the sky is the limit with creativity. Consider Celestial Sweets and Waffle Wagon to come up with unique cake and dessert ideas, baked to your specifications.

There are many options for invitations, programs and thank-you cards, including doing it yourself. Consider Shootin’ the Breeze to assist you with putting your style on paper and print-ing high-quality wedding stationery.

Your guests will appreciate knowing where you are registered for wedding gifts. Everyone is interested in choosing from a variety of ideas they know you will love. Consider Christine’s Gift Shop, Crow Works Engraving or Queen Bee’s Retail Therapy when selecting registry items, choosing gifts for your bridal party and selecting wedding favours for your guests.

Out-of-town invitees will appreciate excep-tional accommodation suggestions in the area. Whether it’s camping, large group rentals or a western-themed adventure, booking a block of rooms or spaces is a courtesy to your guests. Consider the Kanata for special occasion

accommodations and booking assistance. Are you getting stressed? Why not take some

time out to relax and be pampered. Local salons and spas offer a variety of services and you can make hairdressing appointments at the same time at some locations.

Consider visiting Providence Salon & Spa and know you’ll come away spoiled and feeling like a million bucks. Arbonne consultant Ashley Kiffiak can provide you with a personal cos-metic makeover and more.

To ensure your hair, makeup and nails will turn out exactly as you envision, have trial runs with those who will be providing services on your wedding day.

This is also a perfect time to pay attention to your smile. Consider the dentists at Creekside Dental or Crowsnest Dental to look after your oral health. Book an appointment to ensure your pearly whites are dazzling for your big day.

As you look to the future, you’ll want to

know your vision is crisp and clear. Consider allowing the optometrists at Pincher Creek Eye Clinic or Rocky Ridge Eye Centre to set you up with fashionable eyewear that suits your style.

Your bridal party will plan a wedding shower and you’ll be treated like a queen by family and friends in the community.

They may choose to have a themed party, and there are many awesome options for housewares and even some “naughty” stuff. Independent consultants will assist you in setting up a registry and order-ing gifts you’re most interested in. Consider Passion Parties by Jessica McClelland for a bridal shower that’s both classy and entertaining.

Your hubby-to-be will also be ready for a night out with the guys for his bachelor party. There are many options for hosting a great evening for him and his friends.

Are you planning a honeymoon? Whether you are planning a trip nearby or to an exotic location, a travel agent can make sure all arrange-ments are in place for your journey. Allow ample time for your travel agent to put together a package for you, and remember to check the dates on your passports.

As the big day approaches, personalize your service by planning for readers, musicians, attendants and other special touches. Make sure each person is comfortable with their role, and delegate reliable people to look after specific details.

Choose your vows thoughtfully and decide whether or not to mem-orize them. Plan your thank-you speech carefully, and ask friends and family members to perform toasts. Bear in mind that short and sweet is always appreciated.

Take full advantage of your rehearsal to work through any glitches that pop up. All questions are good ones — when you leave the rehearsal you should be confident that everything is in place for the following day.

Knowing that everything necessary for a perfect day has been looked after, make it a priority to get a good night’s sleep!

Your wedding day will be jam-packed and you will be beautifully decked out from head to toe. Expect laughter, tears and many heartfelt moments.

Your smile will never be more beautiful or more radiant than when you walk down the aisle.

One last piece of advice: This is not an all-inclusive list, so make your own timeline, using this as a basic guide.

Check out the services provided by the businesses in these nine pages, and hang onto this supplement for future reference.

It will also be available on our website at www.shootinthebreeze.ca under Special Editions.

When it’s all said and done, share a photo from your special day in the pages of Shootin’ the Breeze.

Wishing you a perfect wedding!

PINCHER CREEK EYE CLINIC We have a great promotion going on called the Perfect Pair Program (ideal for

the concept of the perfect wedding couple), from now until the end of June 2015.A patient buys a new pair of glasses with lenses that have Crizal coating and

Transitions tint (photochromic) and receives a free pair of prescription, anti-glare, polarized sun lenses with the purchase of frame. This could be a savings of $300 to $650 depending on the type of lenses that are needed.

Six months ago, our office began providing a special diagnostic service called optical coherence tomography, or OCT. This is an essential tool for diagnosing and managing glaucoma and various retinal diseases, including macular degen-eration. We are using the Cirrus HD-OCT from Zeiss, and it has really made a difference in the ability to detect early changes in eye health that would not normally be seen in routine evaluation.

The procedure is quick and easy, and eye drops are usually not needed. It is a most effective way of detecting early glaucoma and other sight-threatening retinal problems. In many cases, the fee for this procedure is covered through Alberta Health Care.

We invite you to come and see and experience this new technology that allows us to evaluate the various layers of the retina that are not normally visible by looking directly into the eye. We hope to see you soon!

ROCKY RIDGE EYE CENTRERocky Ridge Eye Centre has two locations providing full-scope, comprehen-

sive eye care for all ages in Cardston and Pincher Creek. We make the most of the latest technological advances in the industry to provide the most up-to-date and cutting-edge eye care available.

This includes high-tech retinal and ocular cameras, optical coherence tomog-raphy (OCT), visual field analyzers, and even digital equipment to acquire frame and lens measurements, allowing us to create the highest-quality custom lenses.

Our doctors practise to the greatest extent of their training and find satisfac-tion in diagnosing and treating eye disease and conditions related to the eyes and surrounding structures.

We carry a large selection of brand-name and designer eyeglass frames and sunglasses, including Maui Jim, Rayban, Oakley, Nike, Lacoste and many others.

We also have a great selection of the latest contact lenses for monthly, daily or biweekly use.

Is it time for your mammogram? Screen Test will be in Pincher Creek this Thursday to Saturday, Brocket next Monday and Tuesday, and Crows-nest Pass from April 13 to 18.

Appointments can be arranged by calling 1-800-667-0604.One in eight Albertan women will be diagnosed with breast cancer

during her lifetime. The main risk factors for breast cancer are:— Being female (men, too, can develop breast cancer but it is rare).— Age; more than 75 per cent of women diagnosed with breast

cancer are 50 or older.— Having a mother, sister or daughter diagnosed with breast can- cer increases a woman’s risk of breast cancer. However, 80 per cent of women who develop breast cancer have no family history.— Previous diagnosis of breast cancer.

Breast Screening Life PlanIf you’re younger than 40:

— Get to know how your breasts look and feel.— See your doctor regularly for a periodic health exam.

If you’re 40 to 49:— Talk to your health-care provider about your breast cancer risk and the risks and benefits of screening mammograms.— Get an annual physical breast exam from your health-care provider.— Check your breasts regularly for unusual changes.

If you’re 50 to 74:— Get regular screening mammograms at least every two years.— Get a physical breast exam from you health-care provider regularly.— Check your breasts regularly for unusual changes.

If you’re 75 or older:— Talk to your health-care provider about continuing mammograms.— Get an annual physical breast exam from your health-care provider.— Check your breasts regularly for unusual changes

Why should I get a screening mammogram?A screening mammogram is a special X-ray of your breast. Once you’re

over 50, it is the most effective way to find breast cancer early. Screening mammograms can detect breast cancer when it is very small, two to three years before you or your physician can feel it. The earlier breast cancer is found, the more effective treatment can be.

Screen Test is a mammography service within Alberta Health Ser-vices. Screen Test provides screening mammograms at two permanent clinics, one in Edmonton and one in Calgary. Screen Test has two mobile screening trailers that provide services to women in approximately 100 communities in rural Alberta.

Screen Test provides high-quality screening mammography and breast health education, and has consistently exceeded international standards for the early detection of breast cancer.
