Th ere were incredible views to behold when a team from Stamford Downtown visited the rooft ops of the newest Downtown buildings: those recently completed and those still under construction. It was a clear day and the vistas were magnifi cent, stretching across 2 states and innumerable cities.

Our sojourn started at the rooft op of Trump Parc Stamford where the skyline of NYC, the Long Island Sound1 and White Plains2 all appeared to be in our backyard. Th e Tower which is the tallest building in Stamford, rising 35 stories into the sky and consisting of 162 condominium units is 85% sold and aff ords luxury housing and unparalleled views. Th e pictures, certainly worth a thousand words, depict Stamford in all its glory: the volunteers working in Mill River Park3; Scalzi Park 2 miles away; the magnifi cence of Stamford’s state of the art towering new Hospital under construction4 just one mile away and the restaurants at Columbus Park5.

Summer House was next on our journey. It is the tallest residential rental tower in the Downtown piercing the skyline at 22 stories. We donned hardhats and went to the 20th fl oor of the building---still totally under construction. 227 market-level residential units will be available for lease when construction is completed in the fall of 2015.

As we held on to the steel railings along the edge of the 20th fl oor perimeter, we saw the glory of the American fl ag waving from the roof of Landmark Tower6 and what looked like an unfurled ribbon (I-95) embracing the edge of the Downtown. Th e Sound, the Stamford Marriot7 and Bar Rosso on Spring Street8 all reminded us of the visual richness of Stamford.

Our next stop was the newly constructed and architecturally signifi cant 15 stories high residential tower, 66 Summer, at the corner of lower Summer Street and Park Place. Th e rooft op off ered a unique vantage point to savor the beauty of some Downtown favorites: St. John’s Cathedral9; the Government Center10 and a crane at work at the new Marriott Residence Inn which will off er 131 hotel rooms. We also got a birds-eye view of Highgrove and Th e Classic--two of our fi nest residential buildings11-- which were at least 5 blocks away from our rooft op perch. Our guide took us to see some of the inviting two bedroom units at 66 Summer which, when completed, will be the home of some very lucky people. Just imagine a fabulous apartment and all the amenities of Downtown living!

Our last stop was the fi ve stories high but sprawling residential complex known as 75 Tresser, encompassing 344 units and a whole city block sitting opposite the Government Center. Th e roof top was as big as a football fi eld and aff orded views which we could almost touch---the train Station, UBS, Metro Center, RBS12, and the First Stamford Offi ce complex. As we left the inviting building and walked through the enormous common area with movie theatres, cappuccino machines, billiards, art, gyms, and meeting rooms, we knew why, although recently opened, the complex is 73% leased.

Last year’s Bike to Work Day was a huge success: Mayor David Martin accepted a fully outfitted bicycle and pledged to ride it to meetings around Stamford; Congressman Jim Himes spoke in support of complete streets; six organizations partnered to provide information; bike safety inspections were held to educate cyclists. Since last year, the City has passed a Complete Streets Ordinance. A pilot project to install 20 bike hitches will occur this spring. And, a bike sharrow network will be established this fall! Go to the community events page at www.stamford-downtown.com to check out the schedule of events (May 11th – May 15th).
