Professional Biography:

Brenda Stewart is the President of Stewart Marketing & Consulting. Brenda brings more than thirty years of legal management experience to Stewart Marketing & Consulting. Her “inside knowledge” of law firm administration, management and marketing is combined with “outside perspective” to help a wide range of clients advance their strategic initiatives and goals. Having worked in such roles as Legal Administrator, Executive Director and most recently, Director of Marketing and Client Services for a southeast firm with 180 attorneys, she is intimately familiar with the challenges faced by law firms, management, director level employees, internal marketing departments and attorneys. Brenda is a regular speaker for the South Carolina Bar, has presented for numerous associations across the Southeast. Brenda is the creator, moderator and key speaker for the SC Bar Rainmaking Boot Camp for Attorneys which has been presented the past three years. Brenda is also a faculty member for the South Carolina Bar Legal Ethics and Practice Program (LEAPP), a program designed by the South Carolina Bar to educate attorneys on efficient and ethical systems and procedures for office management. She also serves as a non-lawyer member of the South Carolina Commission on Lawyer Conduct, a position that is appointed by the Supreme Court of South Carolina. Stewart Marketing & Consulting provides strategic business development and marketing services, personal coaching and administrative training, to firms of any size (solo practitioners, individual attorneys, internal practice groups, marketing departments, and law firm management) across the southeast.

Professional Biography: Michael Duffy received his undergraduate degree in 1965 from The Citadel and his law degree in 1968

from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Law degree

from The Citadel at the 2000 commencement and an honorary degree from the Charleston School of Law in May

2011. From 1969 until 1972, Judge Duffy served on active duty with the U.S. Army in Germany and, from 1973 to

1974, was the Assistant County Attorney for Charleston County, South Carolina.

Judge Duffy was a partner in the law firm of Hollings & Hawkins and later a principal in the McNair Law

Firm until his appointment to the federal bench on December 27, 1995. Judge Duffy’s area of practice was civil

litigation, including admiralty, aviation, commercial, environmental, and construction litigation, and appellate

practice. He was admitted to practice in all courts in South Carolina, the U.S. District Court for the District of

South Carolina, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. Claims Court, the U.S. Tax Court, the

U.S. Court of International Trade, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. Judge Duffy is a permanent member of

the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference. He maintained memberships in the Charleston County, South Carolina,

and American Bar Associations and served on the Executive Committee of the S.C. Board of Commissioners on

Grievances and Discipline from 1986 to 1989. He serves on the Judicial Security Committee of the Judicial

Conference of the federal courts.

Judge Duffy was an Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates where he served as chapter

representative to the National Board from 1988 to 1991, and he was elected President of the Charleston

Chapter in 1991. Judge Duffy is a past president of the Charleston YMCA, The Optimist Club of Charleston, and

was the charter president of the South Carolina Irish Historical Society in 1979. He is a member of the Board of

Directors of charitable foundations in the United States and Ireland. He is a senior bencher of The Citadel Inn of

Court, and he has also served on the board of numerous civic organizations.

Judge Duffy has written and lectured widely on various litigation topics, and he teaches at the National

Advocacy Center on a recurring basis.

Judge Duffy is married to the former Katherine Hostetter, and they have three children, Katie, Patrick

and Brian, and seven grandchildren.
