Not so long ago you could either spend lots of money for
a professional flute or, relatively little on a student flute.
Then, in 2003, Powell introduced the Sonaré flute, offering a
professional, handmade Powell headjoint on an intermediate
flute body. Today our Sonaré concert flutes qualify as “Assembled
in USA,” and Powell’s trail-blazing Sonaré piccolos are “Made in
Massachusetts, USA.” Since their introduction in 2003, Sonaré
flutes have incorporated even more professional features.
ScAleThe scale of a flute has a huge effect on intonation and balance.
The placement and size of the tone holes are the primary
determinants of the scale. Sonaré concert flute bodies include
the renowned Modern Powell Scale. They are produced at
Powell’s Maynard, Massachusetts, workshop, using the same
patented Zinki™ technology which we use to produce Powell’s
professional gold flutes with extruded tone holes.
HeAdjoiNTSThe famous Powell Sound derives
primarily from our headjoints and the
Modern Powell Scale. All Sonaré flutes
and piccolos include headjoints which
are handmade at Powell’s Maynard
workshop. The men and women crafting
these headjoints are all accomplished
flutists whose knowledge and expertise
allows them to cut headjoints to the
highest performance standard.
You have choices. concert flute options include
offset or in-line G, Y-arms or pointed arms,
B or c foot, and split-e. Be bold and add an
Aurumite® 9k rose gold lip plate to any concert
flute. concert flutes and alto flutes are offered
with nickel silver or sterling silver bodies.
The alto flutes come with a straight or curved
headjoint. And our pioneering Sonaré piccolos
are available with stainless steel keys made in
an art deco or traditional style, and in indian
onyx or Tuscan Umber wood tones.
