ABOUT YOUR PROTECTION

ENGINEERED TEXTILE MATERIAL

A f lame retardant fabric developed in the 1960’s by DuPont scientists and first marketed in 1967, Nomex® , is the brand name of what is technically known as Synthetic Aromatic Polyamide Polymer. If we break the words down we understand that it ’s a Synthetic fabric made with molecules that have a strong, ring-like structure (Aromatic) that connects together to form long chains (Polyamide) and that is composed from many identical molecules blended together (Polymer). In brief, Nomex® is an engineered textile with an special combination of heat and f lame retardant properties that maintains superior textile characteristics.

Two outstanding properties of Nomex® make it the most used protection material in racing. Although Nomex® burns when you hold a f lame up to it , it discontinues to do so as soon as the f lame is removed; that is a reason why it is considered to be flame retardant. The second critical property is the thick woven structure of Nomex® fibers which is a poor conductor of heat. Nomex® will protect against exposure to high temperatures for a limited amount of time. However when wetted or sprayed with gasoline garment will burn, affecting the integrity and structure of Nomex® which can cause severe burns. Aside from racing, Nomex® is used by the military, fire-fighters and astronauts. It ’s also widely used in household oven gloves and for automotive insulations where high temperatures’ are common, such as, hoses and insulation for spark plugs. We invite you to learn more about your safety and if OMP Sport products meet your specific needs in racing.

SF I Foundation and F IA Institute provide specifications for f lame-retardant clothing to be used in racing. The standards range from single layer suits that provide some protection against f lash fires to much thicker multi layer suits.

SUIT CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Dry-clean (no trichloroethylene solvent and/or In-dustrial cleaning) or delicate machine wash in cold water using mild detergent. Machine wash is pre-ferred over dry-clean when prints are present on suit. Dry suit on a hanger and do not tumble dry. Never use heat to dry a suit. During care always keep Velcro fastened. Never use bleach, a deter-gent with bleach, or other solvents on any suit. When completely dry store suit away from any light because light sources will cause suit to fade and discolor.

GLOVES CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Hand wash in warm water using mild detergent or delicate machine wash in warm water using mild detergent. Air-dry item. Never use heat to dry item. Brush leather lightly if necessary. Never use bleach, a detergent with bleach, or other solvents on item.

When completely dry, store glove away from any light because light sources will cause glove to fade and discolor.

SHOES CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Suede leather: Brush lightly to remove loose soil.

Smooth leather: Wipe shoe with a moist and soft cloth. Never use bleach, a detergent with bleach, or other solvents on item. Air-dry item. Never use heat to dry item. Store boot away from any light because light will cause shoe to fade & discolor.

UNDERWEAR CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Padding: Gently brush with a humid microfiber cloth and let it dry. Removable padding can be hand washed with warm water using mild deter-gents. Never iron or tumble dry. Air-dry item. It is helpful to air dry helmet after each use. Never use bleach, a detergent with bleach, or other solvents on item.
