North Country Summer School North Country Summer School 20152015

Welcome

North Country Summer School (NCSS)welcomes international students ages 9-13 from July 19 to August 16 for English language and American culture immersion. Our four-week program offers experiential language instruction in the morning, enriching activities and excursions in the afternoon, and guided study hall in the evening. Our experienced teachers, small size and campus offerings provide an exceptional opportunity to improve language profi ciency and experience memo-rable summertime activities. Our program is appropriate for young students seeking a fi rst educational experience in the U.S., as well as students preparing for ongoing study at American schools.

Our Program

NCSS is designed around individual language needs within small group instruction. Summer students engage in projects and activities that require them to utilize their rapidly developing English language skills. Many of our students have studied English for several years, though we are able to accommodate a range of English language learners. Our on- and off-campus trips build community spirit and are intentionally designed to support English speaking, reading and writing. We balance academics and recreation to ensure that language learning is practical and applicable. Parents enjoy following their child’s activities at North Country School online via the NCSS blog.

Language Instruction

Our teachers have high expectations for their students and employ a variety of teaching methods, hands-on projects and innovative uses of technology. Our classes are interac-tive; students work in small groups, participate in discussions and make presentations.

• Certifi ed ESL Teachers • Students build fl uency in speaking, reading and writing • Integrated classroom technology – Google Chromebooks • Small group instruction – fi ve to seven students per class • 3 hours of instruction in the morning plus a 1-hour reading period • Curriculum integrates American cultural studies and civics

We teach a traditional core curriculum and also emphasize studio and performing arts, sustainable environmental practices and outdoor physical activity. Graduates attend highly selective boarding schools. North Country Summer School is an extension of our school year program and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience boarding school life. NCSS takes full advantage of the school’s resources, campus and faculty.
