Beloit Buccaneers

2015 PreviewLast season’s top scorer Julian Baker returns to lead the Bucca-neer attack in his senior season. Beloit’s top shooter Isaiah Turn-er-Wyatt also returns in what head coach Tim Schmiechen hopes is an improved offensive side of the ball. Defensively, Beloit must replace goalkeeper BJ Kiser, with the top candidate to replace him being sophomore Jere Bauer. Sophomore midfielder Daniel Stockton started all 17 games as a freshman and will be counted on to take an expanded role in 2015. Carroll Pioneers2015 PreviewThe Pioneers won their sixth Midwest Conference tournament in the past eight years in 2014 and represented the league in the NCAA Tournament. Returning to lead Carroll offensively is First Team All-MWC pick Francisco Sajuan, who tied with Tyler Coenen last season with six goals scored. Coenen led the team in points (16) and shots (41) last season and tied for the team lead with four assists. Freshman Nick Drew made 11 starts in goal last year and should anchor a defense that lost All-MWC defender Connor Behnke to graduation.

Cornell Rams

2015 PreviewCornell seems to be moving in the right direction under head coach Nate Grosse. The Rams’ three wins last season were the most since 2009. It would be another young group in Grosse’s second year as Lukas Harrison is the lone senior on the roster and he should be counted to lead the defense after being named the team’s defensive most valuable player. The return of Shaun Boerner in goal should also provide a strong foundation defen-sively. Juniors Christian Wright and Nolan Howe both started as sophomores in 2014 and will lead the offensive

2015 PreviewAfter a two year absence from the MWC Tournament, Grinnell is aiming to get back to the postseason with the return of eight starters. Major May started three games last season in goal and played in eight others, but this season he will take over between the pipes full-time with the departure of the nation’s top goal-keeper Isaiah Tyree. Offensively, Grinnell should be in good shape with the return of Artis Curiski, Nicholas Brule, Michael Hurley and Antonio Dimarco. The only significant scorer from 2014 that is not back is Joseph Brown. Quick FactsLocation ............................................................... Illinois Col. Blueboys

2015 PreviewKurt Albrecht will inherit a talented group in his first season in Jacksonville. The Blueboys bring back nine starters from a team that tied for third in the league last season and qualified for the MWC Tournament for the first time since 1993. Offensively, Joe Tooley and Christian Rwiyaza will power the IC attack as both players scored six goals. Anthony Willard and Jordan Blair will be back to anchor the back line. In goal, the Blueboys will need to find a replacement for last season’s starter Scott Workman.

2015 PreviewAlthough Tyler Sheikh is new to Knox, he isn’t a stranger to suc-cess in the Midwest Conference. Last season, Sheikh led Illinois College to its first MWC Tournament berth since 1993. Sheikh should have plenty of talent to work with in his inaugural sea-son, as Midwest Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year return to Galesburg. Nathaniel Logie scored a confer-ence-high 13 goals last season, while Charles Edemba was a key cog in a defense that gave up just 19 goals in 19 games last year. The Prairie Fire’s second leading scorer, Abdulsalam Oganla is also back after scoring four goals and passing out eight assists last season. The biggest question mark for Knox will be replacing All-MWC keeper Sean Dockrell.

Lake Forest Foresters

2015 PreviewLake Forest is projected to make its fifth consecutive trip to the MWC Tournament, which is the second to only Carroll in the conference. Offensively, the Foresters return two All-MWC per-formers in Dylan Harman and Elyas Ingram. Ingram was named to the First Team after a stellar freshman season in which he led the team in goals (6), points (16), shots (67) and game-winners (3). Hartman, a Second Team All-MWC pick in 2014 added five goals and five assists. Senior defender Evan Vogel will provide experience after making 15 starts a season ago, while classmates Jeremiah Erzen and John Palutsis combined for 23 starts in 2014. In the midfield, Ellis Rutili made 12 starts last season.

2015 PreviewThe Vikings should be solid defensively in 2015 with the return of goalkeeper Joe Krivit. Krivit started all but one game last sea-son and had three shutouts to go along with his 80.7 save per-centage. Santiago Alvarez was second on the team last season with three goals scored despite making just three starts. 2013 All-MWC First Teamer Michael Deremo will also bring plenty of talent to the Lawrence lineup. Monmouth Fighting Scots

2015 PreviewThe 2014 season ended in disappointment for the Fighting Scots as they found themselves on the losing end of a three-way tie for the final two spot in the MWC Tournament, however it was year of tremendous growth as they had a 10 point improvement in the league standings. With seven starters returning, including Daniel Guzman, who started every game last season, the Fighting Scots are in search of their first postseason appearance since 2001.

2015 PreviewAlthough Zach Hershoff is new to head coaching duties, he is no stranger to Ripon. Hershoff is a 2011 graduate of the school and a key member of the Red Hawks last MWC Tournament team in 2010. Cameron Greene is back as the Red Hawks top offensive threat. Last season, the junior scored three goals and had three assists to total nine points. He also led the team with 28 shots. Forward Mebrahtu Kasa and midfielder Mherete Mherete should step into expanded roles after finishing last season with six points apiece. Senior Dominic LaVitola will provide experience defen-sively after making 15 starts last season, while James Saager should step in at goalkeeper for the departed Cody Messer-schmidt. St. Norbert Green Knights

2015 PreviewWith 24 returning letterwinners and nine returning starters, St. Norbert has the most experienced roster in the Midwest Confer-ence. Sam Lamers and Tyler Kassube should provide plenty of offensive punch in 2015 after the duo was named to the all-con-ference team last season. Lamers scoreed seven goals and had seven assists from his forward position, while Kassube found the back of the net four times and passed out 12 assists. Tim Fox and Sam Lisheron should compete for times in goal, while Joseph Spera and Sean Sladky will lead the defense after starting all 18 games in their freshman campaigns. 2015 PreviewThe Prairie Fire will have a young club in 2015 with the arrival of 30 newcomers and only three upperclassmen. Sophomore Kayla Brown was limited to just 10 games in her freshman season, but scored a team-high nine goals and had 18 points. The midfield should have some experience as Kelsie Pos and Shea Pierce both started all 17 games as freshman in 2014. In goal, junior There-sa Birzer played every minute last season and produced three shutouts.

Lake Forest Foresters

2015 PreviewLast season, the Foresters produced one of the finest season in Midwest Conference history, breaking the conference record for wins in a season, and have opened the 2015 season ranked 14th in the country. Lake Forest returns all 11 starters from last sea-son’s squad that won its first 21 matches and cruised through the MWC schedule, a perfect 10-0. All-American Michelle Greenway is already third in conference history in goals scored (74). Last season’s Defensive Player of the Year Ellen Rogers and all-region selections Katelyn Hronek and Sam Hillis should provide another stout defensive and produce plenty of chances for Greeneway and Holly Lesperance.

2015 PreviewThe Red Hawks are coming off their best season in program histo-ry in which they set a program record for wins (13), while qualify-ing for the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time and advancing to the MWC Championship game. Paige Birschbach will be counted on to carry a large load offensively after she scored 14 goals and had 12 assists, coupled with the graduation of Brandi Peltier. Alyssa Kennedy should also see an increased role in the offense after scoring five goals and had five assists in 2014. Senior Jamie Wegner should stabilize the defense, while sophomore Jessica Bykowski steps into the goalkeeper position.

St. Norbert Green Knights

2015 PreviewThe Green Knights are aiming to get back to the MWC Tourna-ment after missing the four-team tournament last season. St. Norbert returns nine starters from last season’s squad that finished sixth in the conference and 20 letterwinners. The Green Knights should also receive a huge boost from the conference’s all-time leading goal scorer, Katie Vanden Avond who is back after missing all of last season with an injury. Sarah Bowles had a tre-mendous first season in De Pere, and was named to the All-MWC Team as a freshman in 2014 as a midfielder, while senior Shan-non Jung should team with Vanden Avond to provide a potent 1-2 punch. Jung led the team last year with seven goals and 16 points.
