Dear Friends, On behalf of the JDRF International Board of Directors and the entire JDRF family, we congratulate the Oregon SW Washington Chapter on your 20th anniversary Hope Gala. It is our pleasure to recognize and celebrate this year’s Gala Honoree, Richard Sass, for all you have done to help us achieve our vision of a world without type one diabetes (T1D). Thanks to devoted champions like you, JDRF continues to be the leader in T1D research driving critical advances in new therapies. We also want to congratulate and thank tonight’s Gala Chairs, Larry and Suzanne Mackin, for their dedication to making this such a special evening for everyone. This night could not happen without you and the commitment of all who have worked hard to make this year’s event a success.

JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic plan to develop an ongoing stream of life-changing therapies that will progressively lessen the impact of T1D. Thanks to the efforts and support of all you, JDRF is the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Please accept our deepest gratitude for your support tonight and for all that you do for JDRF.

Good evening! We are proud to present “A Black & White Ball” Celebrating 20 Years of the JDRF Hope Gala. This is an exciting anniversary to celebrate and we thank you for your support and for sharing this evening with us.

Special thanks to our sponsors, patrons, donors and volunteers who graciously contribute their time, energy and financial support to make this such a memorable, high quality and successful event. Because of these combined efforts, we are able to provide you with an exceptional evening.

Tonight we are pleased to honor Richard Sass. His work in the diabetes field has been - and still is -groundbreaking. He has definitely made a positive difference in the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes and their families. Twenty years ago, this Chapter honored him at our very first fundraising Gala. Today, he is still dedicating his resources and work to improve the lives of others. We believe that it is fitting that we recognize him for his ongoing commitment to the diabetes community. Since 2001, JDRF has invested over $4.8 million dollars to fund T1D research being done in Oregon. Your dollars are definitely helping to make a difference in the many lives of those living with type 1 diabetes.

We encourage you to open your hearts, bid often and give generously to Fund A Cure.

Sincerely,

Larry & Suzanne

Dear JDRF Hope Gala Guests,

I am pleased to be here tonight in support of diabetes research as conducted by the JDRF. This year marks my 20th year as an entrepreneur dedicated to providing useful tools for people with diabetes. In January 1995, I founded a company devoted to bring a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) product to market. We will finally meet that goal in 2017 following pivotal trials and submitting that data to the FDA for a pre-market approval.

Like those that deal with diabetes day in and day out, we too have been engaged in a long-term process of technology development that has seen its ups and downs.

We brought Bayer Diabetes Care on as an exclusive distribution partner in 2005. They acquired the company and our elegant CGM technology in July 2008 and 3 months later Lehman Bros. collapsed. Following what turned into a global economic crisis Bayer AG made the corporate decision to divest themselves of their medical device portfolio, including iSense.

I reacquired the iSense CGM technology from Bayer HealthCare on November 12, 2013 and we have restarted the company. Our intention at iSense CGM is clear and the intention of people with diabetes is clear: it ’s all about tight management and control of blood sugar. If that goal is achieved, people with diabetes will live a long and productive life without complications. iSense CGM is a technology that will enable that outcome.

It is a privilege to be honored alongside all of you in this embrace of people with diabetes.

Warm regards,

Dick
