CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME

Welcome to the 2015 Queensland Greyhound Winter Racing Carnival.

After a hugely successful carnival in 2014, this year’s instalment will be headlined by bigger prize purses, a new format and of course, new champions.

This year we will see each regional and provincial club host a Grand Prix race, giving participants statewide an opportunity to taste success during the peak period of our racing calendar.

At Albion Park, the $146,000 Winter Cup will offer the biggest prize purse for an individual race in the carnival thanks to an additional contribution from the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club.

The Winter Cup has developed a reputation as one of the country’s most anticipated races and I have no doubt there will be significant interstate interest again in 2015.

The successful Straight of Origin Series at Capalaba will also form part of this year’s carnival, adding to the interstate rivalry which became a hallmark of last year’s carnival.

It has been a challenging time for the greyhound industry, but there is no better way to come together and celebrate our sport than during the time-honoured Queensland Greyhound Winter Carnival.

I wish all participants the best of luck.

Michael Byrne Chairman Queensland Greyhound Racing Board
