costs (£0.17/mile & £25pp/n)
• Payment of Players – ‘Professional’ loss of Earnings (Persons who’s main income is from coaching or playing squash)
Between £50 & £75 per day is consistent with other counties
policies, and we budget for up to 4 men and 2 lady
professionals in the Senior Teams

Intercounty
Essex had mixed success this year:
• Ladies Seniors finished 7th Nationally
• Ladies O50s retained their status in the Premier Division but the
O40s will be relegated
• Men’s Racketball remain in Division 1 having finished 3rd just missed
out promotion to the Premier Division.
• Men’s Over 40 Racketball retained their National title well done to
Marc Thornley, Jason Friend and Patrick Osborn.

• Men’s Seniors retained their Premier division status by finishing 4th
in the Premier final.

• Men’s Over 45 team finished 4th at stage 1 and 3rd at stage 2
and will be relegated to Division 1
• Men’s over 60 finished second in their group.
• Congratulations to the Men’s Over 55 team who won their
age group. Well done to Wyn Edwards, Paul Newbury
(Captain), Steve Impett, Roger Hilson, John Smith, Lee
Horton and Mark Kirkman.

Essex Closed Squash
• 2014/15 Held in Jan 2015 (Winner - Rory Pennell)
• 2015/16 to be held in October 2015 (Connaught).

• Closed held at Redbridge 20th June 2015 (Winner - Rory Pennell)
• New League to be kicked off from Closed.

• ESRA Website is undergoing refreshment
• ESRA now has an active Facebook page as an organisation
• The LMS (League Management System) is now functional and ready to be launched – will require a small amount of familiarisation for team and club administrators.
• The LMS is also linked to an online shop for squash & racketball goods.

Annual Report – Juniors
The 2014/15 Season has been extremely productive for the Essex
Junior Squash committee.
The new structure encourages more young players to get involved and
helps them to reach their potential
County Trials – 4 trials were held during the season, promising players
are directed to either to the County Squads or Development Squads.
Development Squads – 4 squads at 4 different clubs, thanks to
Connaught, the Garrison, Lexden and Woodford Wells
County Squads – EJS held 4 main training squads, now have 105
juniors involved in county coaching.

Annual Report – Juniors
Grand Prix Series – Grown from strength to strength with 5 events
around the county aimed at giving players from year 10 and below
their first taste of competitive squash.
The success of this competition has meant that we will run 7 events
next season.
The series winners were:
GYr6 Brooke Smith, GYr8 Henna Kaur Ranu, GYr10 Mary-Kate Lavery,
BYr6 Daniel Caton, BYr8 Joe Shepperson and BYr 10 Luke Woolridge.
The prize for these winners will be a 2 hour training session with World
No. 71 Ben Coleman.

Essex Junior Closed – 78 competitors and a great weekend.
Girl’s winners - U11 Mikayla Mann, U13 Eleanor White, U15 Alice Green
Boys winners - U11 Yusuf Sheikh, U13 Oliver Green, U15 Tim Bacon, U17 Aaron
Allpress, U19 Owain Taylor.
Essex Junior Open – Over 100 juniors entered the event with players from 10
counties taking part, the Essex victories went to:
BU13 Joel Braddock and GU11 Hannah Morley
EJS players finishing in the top three of every category.
Inter- County Competition - 9 Teams in the main competition with some
notable successes, the best of which was the U15 girls team who narrowly lost
3-2 to Yorkshire in the finals.
County Cup – ESR mixed event for players who did not compete in the main
Inter-County. Essex fielded 3 teams U13, U15 and U17,
U13 and U17 teams won and U15 team finished 2nd , a great event and
congratulations to all involved. .

Inter-County Friendlies – 2 events have run involving Essex, Kent and
Middlesex, Essex were overall winners of both
Women & Girls Tournament & Exhibition – Fun tournament with 55
women and girls of all abilities followed by an exhibition fundraising
match between Laura Massaro and Nicolette Fernandes.
Charity Family Fun – Held at Lexden during the Christmas break over
£100 was raised for Kids Inspire

Ranked 2 in the under 15’s, won British U-15 and
6th in British Junior Open
National Rankings
Essex has 59 Juniors on the ESR National Rankings
the following being in the top 10 of their age groups:
• Alice Green, Ellie Hewes and Elise Lazarus
• Joel Braddock, Oliver Green and Yusuf Sheikh.

• ESR dramatically reduced headcount after SE funding reviews.
• ESR tasked to increasing participation (all levels)
• Essex (SE Counties) development model seen as a key part of increasing and sustaining participation.
• ESR new Regional Manager is Natalie Davis, and ESR’s
new participation strategy ‘Game Changer’ will be
launched soon
