RECAP of the 2014 CAMP CARD SALE and WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT CAMP CARDS!

2014 was the second year of the Camp Card sale by Pikes Peak Council, BSA. The Council had approximately 1,000 Scout sellers and they sold over 14,500 cards! That total is double what was sold in 2013! Total commission achieved by all Scout sellers was more than $36,000!

The most successful units and Scout sellers said that Camp Card “SHOW AND SELL” sales WERE THE BEST WAY TO SELL CARDS! Several units sold Camp Cards outside common show and sell locations like grocery stores and reported selling hundreds of cards in a matter of hours. Door to door sales were less popular and not as successful as show and sell sale but some units still had great success.

EXPLAIN CAMP CARD PROGRAM TO YOUR ADULT LEADERS: Set Unit’s sales goal & plan sales activities. Commit to cc sale online or in person. Prepare time line for the sale. Set up coverage areas to sell cards.

PREPARE MATERIALS FOR UNIT KICK-OFF MEETING FOR LEADERS, SCOUTS & PARENTS: Time line showing sale dates. Establish a Unit-End of Sale date to allow enough time to reconcile cards and money. Explain Unit and per Scout sales goal. Storefront sale sign-up sheets with date, time and locations. *Get permission from stores before selling! Clearly communicate the camp card return policy & commission structure.

REMIND YOUR SCOUTS OF UNIT’S MONEY DUE DATES. Collect and tally money from Scouts and submit ONE CHECK (payable to “Pikes Peak Council”) FOR FULL AMOUNT OF WHAT YOU SOLD by Monday, April 27 at 5pm. Payment can be made at the Council Service Center:

How the Camp Card Sale Works

STEP 2Communicate unit needs clearly with each youth and parent. Explain how the sale of Camp Cards teaches the value of earning money to support their program. Explain exactly where the unit plans to allocate the revenue generated from the sale.

STEP 7Schedule a show and sell, tell your Scouts to sell IN UNIFORM and start selling! NEW FOR 2015 - Pikes Peak Council is han-dling the scheduling of Show and Sell sales at BASS PRO SHOPS only. Visit pikespeakbsa.org/campcards to review the slots available to schedule your show and sell. Each unit can sign up for one slot and be waitlisted for more. SHOW AND SELL SALES ARE BEST! Set-up in front of a store as a unit. You MUST get permission from the store before selling. Check out a FREE Camp Card poster to use for your show and sell. Posters are available on a first come, first serve basis and must be returned after your weekend show and sell. Order a SQUARE credit card reader for your show and sell sales. No cash, no problem!

STEP 3Understand and clearly communicate the Commission structure. The Camp Card commission will be 50% if the unit is paid in full and has returned unsold cards by the turn in date of Monday, April 27 at 5pm. All money from the sale must be turned in to Council. STEP 6Communicate the Camp Card calendar clearly with all youth and parents. Have a unit kick-off. Have a turn-in date for money and unsold Camp Cards. All money and cards are due to Council on Monday, April 27 so be sure you have adequate time to reconcile money/cards from your unit/individual sale.

STEP 1Getting Started- Units must fill out a Camp Card Commitment Form indicating how many Camp Card sets (20 per set) your unit wants. Commitment Forms can be turned in to the Council Front Desk or submitted online. NEW FOR 2015 - Maximum amount of cards requested must not exceed 750. If you sell all 750, request more from the Council office.

STEP 4Understand and clearly communicate the Return Policy. Camp Cards can be returned to the Council without a penalty anytime before Monday, April 27 at 5pm. The cards MUST be in NEW condition. The UNIT is RESPONSIBLE for PAYMENT on any unreturned cards (lost, misplaced, damaged, ETC.) at a cost of $5.00 per card. Be sure everyone treats each card as if it were a $5.00 bill.

STEP 8Return any unsold Camp Cards and bring ONE CHECK or CASH to Council by 5pm on Monday April 27 for the FULL AMOUNT of what you sold. 50% of sale commission checks will be available on or before May 15 if on time with payment. If your unit is late with payment, bring in any unsold Camp Cards and one check/cash for the FULL AMOUNT of cards as soon as possible! Late turn-in units/sellers will receive 25% commission or $1.25 per card sold.

STEP 9Spend the money your unit earned selling Camp Cards!

STEP 5Explain the rules and regulations to all Scouts and Scouters who are selling the card. The sale lasts approximately 8 weeks and officially be-gins on Friday, Feb. 27. *If you attend the kick-off you can start the sale 1 day early.


Scout Selling TipsA Scout is Safe. When conducting your sale, it is vital to ensure proper safety measures especially when children are involved. Below are some Camp Card general safety and sale tips.

When selling Camp Cards always have an adult or buddy with you. ALWAYS wear your uniform!! Never enter a stranger’s house. Watch for traffic. Never sell at night. Not every house will buy so do not become discouraged. The more people you ask the more people will buy! Sell Cards at School, Church, in your community.
