Student, Certificate in Freight Forwarding at the BEST Pacific School of BusinesS, Computing and Enterprise (Freight and Supply Chain Logistics)

That customs officer uniform is firmly in BEST student Eric Feau’s sights as he nears

completion of the Certificate in Freight Forwarding.

It was a career in criminology that first led Eric to study, but he sidelined this as he

welcomed twin boys to his family, shortly followed by a daughter. It was then Eric

started to plan for a future that could offer him the stability and income he needed for

his family along with career satisfaction in a field that still supported his interests.

Moving back to Auckland from Sydney, Eric enrolled in the Certificate in Freight

Forwarding in June last year. It didn’t take long for him to feel right at home.

“It wasn’t what I expected to be honest. I love it at BEST, there are also coordinators and

good tutors. The large number of Pacific students here made me feel more

comfortable and not intimidated. I could just be myself. I understand that I have to work

from the bottom to get to the top, but being at BEST has given me the confidence to go

into the workforce.”

Graduate, Certificate in Business Administration level 4.Graduate, national diploma in business level 5sales representative, spark

Helen Tuivaiti wanted to get off a benefit and into paid employment. With three small

children and an extended family to support, Helen knew that for her family to improve

their future prospects, she needed to get not just any job, but a job where she could

learn, improve and grow.

Helen knew that the first step was to get some qualifications under her belt and so

headed to BEST Pacific Institute of Education where she graduated first with a

Certificate in Business Administration, and subsequently with a National Diploma in

Business.

“I can’t quite believe how much my life has changed so much since I got the job here at

Spark. Things were really tough before. Now the hours I work are really good; I can drop

my kids off at school every day, and am home in time at night to help them with their

homework. And we can actually save, which is such a good feeling.”

Graduate, Certificate in Business Administration level 4.current student, national Diploma in Business LEVEL 5

In the back of her mind, Jane always knew she would take up business studies, but

wanted to wait until her children were settled in school. A close church friend of Jane’s

suggested she enrol at BEST, and with her daughter now at school, and her son able to

attend daycare, Jane felt the time was right to explore her options.

Some years since she had been in a learning environment, the naturally shy Jane felt

nervous on her first day at BEST, but says the warm welcome she received from her

tutors and fellow students meant it wasn’t long before her confidence grew and the

nervousness disappeared.

Jane says her confidence has grown since she joined BEST. “I’m not afraid to speak up

now, to voice my own opinions. I’m much more confident in myself.

“My first impression of BEST was that everyone was friendly and helpful. It had been a

long time since I had been at school - and to be honest I wasn’t much of a school girl back

then. I felt quite nervous, but everyone was so friendly.”
