About Barry & Cathy Beck

If you were to spin the globe and place a finger on nearly any continent, chances are Frontiers has created a customized and unforgettable experience for a client there. We can help you chase Atlantic salmon on the Kola Peninsula in Russia or confirm the exclusive penthouse suite in Paris. If saltwater flats fishing in the Seychelles or a month long excursion in New Zealand is more your style – we have you covered. Our destination specialists know the private trout streams in Chile, spring creeks in the American West and how to pick the best hotel across Asia. We share your passion for the ultimate travel experience.

With escorted group departures, we take it a step further. We not only customize your journey, we are right there with you every step of the way. Escorted trip participants receive the same level of detail in their pretrip documents and final itineraries as all clients. Plus, they receive first-hand knowledge from years of time our hosts have spent in the field. We are there to answer questions about fly selection or knots; share casting guidance on effectively fishing an unknown river or simply tidy up your back cast. We’ll even loan you a pair of sunglasses – all at no additional cost. You will explore the world with like-minded travelers and create memories that turn into stories for generations to come.

Covering five of the seven continents, we have escorted clients on trout fishing trips in Montana, Argentina, Chile, Spain and New Zealand; saltwater fishing trips to Christmas Island, Bahamas, Belize and Mexico; followed Africa’s majestic animal populations on a photographic safari and participated in the occasional cast and blast in Alaska. If fly fishing and wingshooting are not high on your list, we also offer an array of exclusive leisure activities each year. Past trips included The Galapagos Islands, India, Myanmar (Burma), Chile, Egypt and the Asian Subcontinent.

All of our trips are escorted by industry experts including Barry & Cathy Beck, and Frontiers own Mike and Kristene Fitzgerald, Mollie Fitzgerald and Tarquin Millington-Drake. Collectively, this group has gathered thousands of passport stamps and will ensure that you have one of the best travel experiences of your life.

Longtime Frontiers trip hosts and photographers, the Becks travel far and wide to follow their love for fly-fishing and nature photography. Based in Pennsylvania, Barry and Cathy write

books, lead African photo safaris, and operate a stock photography business. The Becks are well-known in the fishing, photography, and travel industries, and possess a stellar reputation

for their skill, knowledge, and expertise born out of a 20 year career.

Their many books include The Outdoor Photographer’s Handbook, Fly-Fishing the Flats, and Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon Fly Fishing Guide.

Proposed Itinerary for Coyhaique River LodgeJanuary 8 - 18, 2015

Wine Country

One night extension into the wine country with Barry & Cathy Beck.

You will be met by an English speaking guide and driver at the Santiago Airport for your one day excursion, exploring part of the Chilean wine country.

Your day will begin with a stop in the Casablanca Valley – where the rich soil is very similar to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California. It is here that you will visit the Matetic Vineyard, known for producing exquisite white wines. Your visit will include a tour of the facilities, wine tasting and lunch at Equilibrio, the vineyard’s restaurant.

After lunch, you will continue on to the historical city of Valparaiso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will soak up the architecture of the city, walk the sloping hills to explore its colorful homes and view this historic Chilean coastal sea port.

The day will conclude with transportation back to your hotel.

Atacama

Spend at least three nights in Atacama staying at Awasi Atacama.

Awasi Atacama: In the immensity of the Atacama Desert in the north of Chile, the driest, most desolate and arid in the world, the Andean Altiplano will surprise you with its dramatic, exotic, awe-inspiring beauty.

San Pedro de Atacama, a small town surrounded by impressive natural scenery, was the cradle of ancestral cultures. Considered today to be the archaeological capital of Chile, San Pedro continues to be a silent witness of the passage of time.

Awasi is situated inside an ancient site surrounded by a historic wall, which for years housed shepherds and herders. Its privileged location just a stone’s throw from the center of town makes it possible to enjoy “town life.”

Rapa Nui (Easter Island)

explora Rapa Nui Lodge: Located 3,700 kilometers (2,237 miles) from the American continent, surrounded by the world’s most transparent waters, Rapa Nui is the cradle of an unusual and enigmatic culture which persists to this day.

The language, music and many traditions remain alive amongst the island’s inhabitants, while the enormous carved stone moai tell of a more remote past.

explora Rapa Lodge is built on 9.6 hectares (23.7 acres) of land situated on a hill in the Te Miro Oone area, overlooking the ocean. This is in southeastern Rapa Nui, 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) from Hanga Roa, the most populated part of the island. All of the 30 rooms, which extend to the north and south from a central building, have ocean views and the lodge has welcoming indoor spaces whichintegrate aspects of the local culture.

Suggested Pre and Post Trip Extensions

At the conclusion of the fishing program, Frontiers suggests you take advantage of what Santiago and the surrounding areas have to offer. Frontiers is poised to coordinate any pre- or post- trip accommodations, but highly suggest the following:

explora Rapa Nui Awasi Patagonia Easter Island

Chilean Vineyard Bedroom explora Patagonia The City of Valparaiso Bedroom at Awasi Patagonia

In addition to providing a superior experience while you’re at Coyhaique River Lodge, our Airline Department can coordinate all of your travel logistics to and from South America.

LAN Airlines, our preferred airline partner to Chile, was recently voted 2014’s Best Business Class to Latin America/South America. They were the first carrier flying between the USA and South America to offer a fully flat bed in their premium cabin in this market, and are offered on all of their 767 and 787 aircrafts.

The Premium Business cabin is arranged in a 2 – 2 – 2 configuration with all seats facing forward, making them perfect for any traveler. The generous 74-inch pitch and fixed shell seat back eliminates the ‘climb over’ problem faced by window seat occupants on other airlines and the variable seat width provides a high level of comfort.

Internal Air: Santiago/Balmaceda/Santiago: The current LAN Chile ticket price is *$435.00 and the Sky ticket price is $200.00 (Price subject to change).

Included: Accommodations and meals at the lodge, beverages including wine, beer and bottled water, guided fishing, and ground transportation to/from the Balmaceda airport.

Not Included: Airfare to/from Balmaceda, Chile, fishing equipment and flies, cocktails, fishing licenses*, gratuities, items of personal nature including telephone calls, laundry service, Chilean entry fee, airport departure taxes.

*The fishing licenses fee is $25USD and payable directly to the lodge.

Our team of highly specialized agents coordinate every last detail of your trip.
