Welcome to a New Generation of Hanoverians The HHSA has enjoyed another very successful Annual National Tour, with Hartmut Wilking from the Hannoveraner Verband being the guest German classifier for 2015. Hanoverian foals were presented at HHSA inspections around Australia for registration and branding, which also enabled the inspection panel to evaluate the offspring of licensed and approved Hanoverian stallions. The parentage of all foals registered with the HHSA was verified by DNA typing. This was carried out on the day of the tour by obtaining a hair sample from each foal. Parentage verification is required prior to a foal being eligible to receive their international passport and Universal Equine Life Number (UELN) created from the database of the Hannoveraner Verband in Germany. Each foal was presented in-hand for an evaluation of their conformation, as well as being shown free beside their dam for an assessment of their gaits. Foals were kept to the inside of their dam while being walked and trotted around an arena to enable inspectors to have a clear, unobstructed view of each foal. Recognizing that foals are presented at various stages of age and development, the HHSA does not officially grade them during inspections. However, the classifier/s does choose the Australian Champion Foal, as well as the Top 10 Foals, on tour and if the classifier/s considers a few other foals warrant special mention then they are awarded Highly Commended Foals. Owners/breeders whose foals receive these awards can feel extremely proud.
