The Restaurant & Bar Design AwardsThe Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, now in its seventh year, is the only awards in the world dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces.

Tony Chambers (Editor in Chief of Wallpaper*), Alberto Alessi, Marcus Wareing, Thomas Heatherwick and other leading hospitality, design and lifestyle Judges have chosen the winners.

Entries from over 70 countries cover every imaginable space, from ships to airports, museums to burger vans, and from revered Michelin-starred establishments to the fleeting dynamism of pop-ups.

A unique event, strongly positioned on ‘innovation’, the 2015 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards ceremony will be held in London’s Old Truman Brewery on the 1st October 2015.

The ShortlistThe Restaurant & Bar Design Awards announces the shortlist from the 2014/2015 entries. The shortlist includes 214 projects across 32 categories from the world’s leading architects, interior designers, lighting designers and restaurant and bar operators.

The winners of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards (including Best UK Restaurant, Best UK Bar and Best Overall Restaurant and Best Overall Bar) will be announced during a ceremony at London’s Old Truman Brewery on the 1st October 2015.

2015 – The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards Ceremony(The Story – Building Emotions)Working with this year’s set designers (B3 Designers, DesignLSM and Dexter Moren Associates), we will create an Awards ceremony set called ‘The Story – Building Emotions’.

We have identified seven stages of the building process and seven matching emotions. The designers have each created a series of seven highly visual mood panels which will be assembled ‘live’ at the Awards ceremony to finally reveal each designer’s completed build vision.

The building stages and emotions are:

Restaurant & Bar Design Talks

We organise a series of quarterly Restaurant & Bar Design Talks at innovative food and beverage spaces. These events are hosted by both the designer of the space and their client and are attended by the region’s most influential designers, hospitality operators and our partners/sponsors. Events have been held at Pennethorne’s, Sketch, Tramshed and many other fabulous and diverse sites in London and around the UK.

Restaurant & Bar Design Awards book

Divided into five chapters – Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, and Middle East – this new book by TASCHEN features 100 highlights from the establishments put forward to the panel. Texts include chapter introductions by experts and judges such as Tony Chambers (editor-in-chief of Wallpaper*) and designer Karim Rashid, and a preface by the author and founder of the awards, Marco Rebora.

2014 – The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards (The Great Reveal)

The Great Reveal project was an ‘act of architectural theatre’. A celebration of British design and the eclectic mix of food and drink we have within these shores, we created a ‘reveal’ where various restaurant & bar spaces were ‘exposed’ as the evening of the Awards progressed. Entirely white, the set was highly dynamic and interactive. Inspired by the music from three British eras the 1880s, 1970s and the 2000s, three hospitality designers (Harrison, Michaelis Boyd Associates and d-raw) created three very different food and beverage spaces.

2013 – The Farmiloe Building (The Box Project)

The Farmiloe Building invited us to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Awards. We invited five overall winners from the previous five years to create five food and beverage areas using only specified white materials found in one metaphoric box. The ‘Box Project’ challenged the designers to create contrasting bar and restaurant spaces. Cutting edge technology and lighting inspired guests to move from one area to another, where different Awards were presented to the winners.

2012 – The RIBA (The White Line)

2012 – The RIBA (The White Line)

The Royal Institute of British Architects invited us to hold the Awards at their superb Head Quarters at Portland Place. Reflecting the building’s 1930’s interiors, we created a white 3D art deco ‘line’ that welcomed guests as they arrived at the building. The ‘line’ moved through the building eventually becoming the main bar and then the Awards stage itself. The ‘line’ lit up and interacted with the movements of the guests enjoying themselves at the Awards ceremony.
