Significant ChangesBased on student, parent, teacher, and administrator feedback several significant changes have been made to the grading guidelines for the 2015-2016 school year.

Students and parents are encouraged to take some time to review the grading guidelines to make sure they understand the new procedures.

A copy of these new guidelines are available on the NHS website under the “Academics” tab and on the iNvest page under Quick Links.

Late Work When an assignment is submitted after a

deadline, a penalty of fifteen (15) points per class meeting may be deducted from the grade with a maximum of 30 points deducted.

Formative work will be accepted for a grade until the summative assignment for that content is completed or until the teacher documents personal contact with a student’s parents regarding a late assignment.

Teachers may accept work beyond this timeline for purposes of providing feedback to the student but any grade given will follow the procedures outlined in Late Work.

What does that mean for you?

You have until the next summative to

turn in the work, not all 6 weeks.

Redoing Daily Work

If you make less than an 80 on an assignment you can request to redo the assignment. Your new grade will be an average of the original grade and the new grade.

Once posted in the grade book, you will have two (2) school days to request the opportunity to re-do an assignment.

You must complete the new assignment within five (5) school days of the original grade posting in the gradebook.

So you need to be able to access your grades AND keep

track of the dates. Snooze and you keep the original

grade.

Retesting If you score below an 80 on a test you can

request to redo the test. Your new grade will be an average of the original test grade and the new test grade.

Once a test grade is posted in the gradebook you will have two (2) days to request to retest.

Before you can retest ALL assignments leading up to that test must be completed and turned in even if it is too late for the assignment to receive a grade.

Before you can retest you MUST attend at least one (1) tutorial session with your teacher or appropriate designee.

You must complete the new test within five (5) school days of the original grade posting in the gradebook.

This is the kicker! Missing work? No retest.

Exam Exemptions Semester Exam Exemptions

1. Students taking EOC exams may be exempt from that course semester final

2. Students enrolled in AP courses AND participate in the AP exam may be exempt from that course semester final.

These are the ONLY semester exam exemptions. Students who take EOC and AP exams will have an alternative assignment to replace the exam AND will be provided an opportunity to take the exam to improve their semester grade.

Everyone tests in the fall.

Spring, depends on your “big test”

Semester Grade Calculation All NISD Secondary Campuses (Grades 6-12) will

utilize a consistent formula for calculating semester grades. The semester exam for grade 6-12 shall be counted as 1/7 of the semester grade. The following formula demonstrates the method for calculating the semester grade.

{(6*A) + (E)} / 7 = Semester GradeA= Average of three six weeks grades

E = Semester Examination Grade
