“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”

Happy Valentines Day February 2015

A Valentine Forever

A Valentine is nothing like a chocolate or a rose. For in

a week these shall be gone, but Valentines remain.

If love were always sweet to tongue or fragrant to the

nose,

Each day would be like Valentine’s and we would go

insane.

A Valentine just hangs around, waiting to be kissed,

Long after special days have passed

And everyday’s are here.

So one is wise to choose one well,

And chocolate’s to resist.

For in the midst of mania,

It’s nice to have one near.

A VERY SPECIAL, HAPPY VALENTINES’S TO ALL!

Random Acts of Kindness Week

Did you know there is a foundation dedicated to random acts of kindness from Feb 15-21?

There are simple things like sharing a smile with everyone you meet, drop off treats to fire and police departments, make a new friend, teach a grandchild how to cook a special dish, or hold the door open for the person behind you.

These seem like easy acts to perform, yet how often do we get so involved in our own thoughts and world that we miss the chance to do some small act of kindness for others.

Reported in AARP there is an Ohio man traveling around the country in a bus laden with kindness ideas to all college campuses. He says, “Reaching 1 million kindnesses over a lifetime requires 50 acts of kindness a day for 55 years….”

Just think what one act a week could do or better yet one act of kindness a day.

You never know when you might be the recipient.. Think of that when someone holds a door open for you!!

We of the Women’s club take great pride in the delicious homemade soups made by our

members.

This year we are adding an entertainment following the dinner, a first of its kind

here in Southfork, with models that TV Land would love to have on their stage and we

got them first! Presenting you with a “Unique Men’s Fashion Show” and something

you do not want to miss along with a skit, with their performance.

Tickets ($7.00 each) will be sold starting in JANUARY. First come, first served!!!!!

Tickets must be purchased prior to this event. No tickets will be sold at the door!

Women’s Club

On January 7th, 53 ladies met in the Clubhouse for their monthly meeting and

it was wonderful to see such a nice group. The tables were nicely

decorated by Joanne Bowman, Dee Dee Southerland and Shirley Tiratto. Thanks

for a job well done.

All the reports were read and approved. We celebrated the January birthdays

with a nice piece of cake with coffee and iced tea. Again, we must thank

Tanya Hahn & Pat Dicks for the raffle bags.

.

On Jan.21st Carol Albers with the help of the members will be doing small

dress’s (made out of pillowcases) to be sent to Africa like they did last

year, it is a very nice project.

This month we are collecting blankets and men's socks for the homeless. There

is a box in the Clubhouse for all who would like to donate.

We tried to have an election to get new people on the Board and this failed.

The Board will remain as is. We must be doing something good nobody wants to

replace us.

On Feb.15 we will have our second fundraiser (Soup supper) followed by a

unique men’s fashion show and skit. You cannot miss this event it will be

hilarious. The fashion show will be headed by Russ Wild and Mike Miller .Be

ready for a good laugh . You know, laughing is the best medicine.

Don't forget to buy your ticket. $7.00/each and all proceeds will be going to

our Charity committee to be able to continue their great job.

This month we had a speaker from Cornerstone Center for Women which was very

informative telling us among other things how they help the young women to

keep their baby instead of aborting. This center is a non- profit and does a

lot for families in need. We gave her a check of $100.00.

In February our hostesses are Pat Dicks and Brenda Knight.

In March we will have a singing quartet of 15 women of Zephyrhills followed

by a small luncheon.

See you on February 4th we will be discussing our Feb 15 show. We need your

help.

Southfork Women’s Club Membership Drive

This is an invitation to all women of Southfork to come and join us as a group, not only for

social but for all the charity that the club does on a monthly basis.

We are a unique group and the dues to join is only $5.00 a year. No where can you join

anything today for this low rate? This dues fee includes a monthly refreshment of cake and

coffee (celebrating the monthly birthdays), and a Christmas luncheon at no extra cost to the

members. There are some meetings during the year that we do provide a lunch with other

foods such as subs, salads and so much more again at no cost to the members. If we have no

speaker scheduled, Marielle Quain, our president provides us with games. We also have two

(2) fundraisers a year to help with all expenses.

The main focus of this group is to provide help to the many charities in our area and our

charity group is headed by Mary Bolin whom we cannot thank enough for all the hard work

she puts into this committee. This committee provides us with monthly speakers whom are

so informative and helpful and of course Mary is always looking for new speakers. We adopt

a family at Christmas, give out over 30 Christmas dinners to some of the needy families,

donations are given monthly to the many agencies such as: Battered Women, Cornerstone

Center for Women, School supplies for area needy children and so much more that would

take another page to list and we never stop giving. We also collect, Toys for Tots and this

month collecting blankets for the homeless in Dade City area. Need I go on……….?

Come and join us and find out what we do and we meet every first Wednesday of the month

at 9:30am. Summer months the members go out for breakfast at some of the nearby

restaurants.

Officers of our group are:

Barbara Wharton, Vice President

Peggy Elkins, Secretary

“Snuggle for Warmth”

We at the Women’s club have found out there are many homeless people in the Dade City

area.

Now that the winter months are upon us,, we have decided to place a box at the clubhouse

for a deposit of blankets and adult socks.

We would like for all to help out this cause and bring any blankets new or used that you no

longer need or want, to help out these poor people.

If you have any questions please contact Mary Bolin. The box will be at the clubhouse

through the month of February.

Thanks for all your help.

Phone Directory

Just a reminder, ……………….no home deliveries will be made of the phone

directories. I will bring them to the office after they are delivered to me and if

anyone wants a new one, just ask John or Sandi. Don’t quote me on this but I

think they will be delivered around the end of January………..So when you go to

pay your rent, stop and ask if they have been brought in yet.

Also, if any errors or corrections need to be made, I can make them but they will

not show until the next January 2016 when the next book comes out.

Remember, each year the deadline for additions/corrections must be made by

December 1st.

Thanks, Phyllis Grossi

Monday Morning Coffee Hour

Each week on Monday mornings from 8am to 9am there is always coffee

brewing which is free and we do have donuts for those who are a little hungry

and they are $.50 each. What a good way to meet some of your neighbors and

start your week.

The men are usually talking about the latest sport event on TV and the women

are always talking about the latest happenings in the community. No agenda or

speakers, just a chance for our community to come together. Bring your smile

and wit and we’ll furnish your coffee. We would love to get to know all of our

new neighbors and the others who have been in hibernation lately. Come join

us!!!!

TOPS FL0849 Southfork

Over the past two years we as a group have been meeting on Saturday

mornings for a discussion on weight support and ideas for controlling our eating

habits.

I am sure most of you think this is a diet club “which it is not” and it is only a

support group to help in weight loss. Every member is either losing or

maintaining their weight.

We have a leader, Phyllis Fisher who has been with TOPS over 40 years and has

maintained a weight loss of over 158 pounds……….yes, you read this correctly.

We also have a co-leader who has been in TOPS for 40 years and the two of

them are here to help and get us started on a brand New Year and we are

extending an invitation to all who may be interested, ( and that means

everyone) in getting healthy and stronger because of better eating habits. By

the way…………this group is open to any outsiders and communities here in the

area. So if you know of anyone outside the park who would be interested, let

them know to come to this weekly class.

It costs $32.00 a year and $4.00 a month for chapter fees. We meet each

Saturday at 9am to 9:30 which is weigh in time and 9:30am the meeting starts.

Come join us……….

Front Row Seats

On Saturday evening, Dec 20th, Shirley Tiratto, Dee Dee Southerland, JoAnn Bowman and Billie

refreshments were served at the clubhouse

Front Row Seats on Dec 20th

Shirley Tiratto, Dee Dee Southerland, Jo Ann Bowman and Billie Moore had

front row seats watching the Christmas Golf cart parade as it was coming down

Mesquite Drive.

There were quite a few golf carts and a lot of them decorated and the carts

were led by Santa Claus as they were going through Southfork and Blue Jay .

After the parade, everyone was invited to the clubhouse for refreshments.

A great time was had by all and all spectators in the park were entertained for

the evening as the carts drove by twice on each street. Remember, to join the

parade next year and join in the festivities!

Performance by Cahal Dunne (Reviews)

Southfork Entertainment. Well let's see, who the heck is Cahal Dunne, do I

miss NCIS, Jethro Gibbs, or do I support Southfork. Ok. Let's go and

socialize and find out just who Cahal Dunne is. Such a right decision.

The most talented, personable individual ever. Liked him the moment his

Irish smile walked onto our stage. Each genre had the proper Tuxedo ,

Irish, BeBop, Rock and Roll, Country etc. He sang for 2.5 hours, and his

patriotic finale certainly brought tears to my eyes. So proud to be an

American! How blessed we are at Southfork.

Thanks to our entertainment committee, thanks for all you do. Let's bring

him back!

To all who missed a fantastic entertainment night at the clubhouse......you don't know what

you missed. Cahal Dunne was very talented and sang for 2 1/2 hours and of course we did

not want him to leave the stage and he was awesome!!!!

He gave out a lot of Irish humor and wit in between his music. He had a “baby grand”

piano on stage with him and his fingers were non-stop.. If he comes back to Southfork

again, you cannot miss this man. Great, great show!!!!

Walkers

Just another suggestion, be very careful when walking past any home

whether walking for exercise or out for an evening stroll with your pet.

When a resident is backing out of their driveway, they have blind spots

in the car and don’t always see the walker as they pull out of their

driveways, even when looking both ways before pulling out. Please be

cautious of this as you walk pass their driveway!!!!!

This is also note worthy when walking or driving past some of the

many corners here in Southfork especially the ones leading on to

Brahman and or Bronco as an example. It is hard to see if another

person or car is coming in any of the directions and it is amazing no one

has been hurt or hit by a vehicle at any of these corners. The other

dangerous place is pulling out of the parking spaces in front of the

clubhouse to either side of Prairie or Tumbleweed traffic. There have

been some near misses with cars, pedestrians and golf carts almost

getting hit. The walkers are assuming they are seen!

Another thing brought to my attention is the walkers with dark clothing

and not carrying some sort of light. Many of the residents have trouble

seeing at night and would not know if anyone was walking until they

come upon them. Please be cautious!

The scooters/golf carts are another dangerous vehicle with sometimes no

proper lighting on them. Also, they should stay on the right side of the

road and be careful around the clubhouse with cars pulling out of the

clubhouse. All should have a backup mirror to see if there is any traffic

behind before crossing over the road. PRACTICE SAFETY!!!!!!

I was asked to place an article on this for safety reasons!!!!

Curly’s Campfire Chats

“Desert Tracks”

I set out to cross a desert a task I’ve done before;

as the noon day sun beat down my frock became no more.

As sweat beaded upon my brow

my vest also took a bow; then the heat became so mean soon empty was my canteen.

Confusion showed it’s ugly head

Onward my legs did tread; As my body took a fall

I cried, “Lord help me crawl.”

From the peak of a sandy mound I took a stand, glory found; Like a sailor spotting land I saw tracks in the sand.

With strength and speed like angel wings

I forged on with legs of springs; As I reached the forest trees

I said, “Well, I’ll be! These tracks belong to me!”

Sometimes God has to send us on a journey of there and back again;

Just to see, if we have faith In our hearts for only him.

E-Mail Addresses

Just a note to everyone………..I noticed when I send out mass e-mails there are

some that come back saying no such address. There are only a few and if

anyone has e-mail address changes please let me know so I can make the

change on my list for Southfork. I have sent out a couple of emails lately with

the “death” of a couple of residents and got back these notices that your email

could not get through.

Thanks, Phyllis ([email protected])
