Message from the Director

Now is the time to get outside and explore! Our parks & greenways offer numerous opportunities to enjoy the spring & summer weather. There are over five miles of paved greenways along Sam’s Branch and the Neuse River with two trailhead parking lots available. There is also a one mile partially paved trail at East Clayton Community Park, and a 1/2 mile paved trail at Clayton Community Park to walk, bike, stroll, or jog your way to better health and enjoy our natural beauty.

We have baseball and softball leagues for youth and adults and a variety of special events from the Easter Egg hunt for the toddlers to Senior Games for anyone 50 and over. Our annual 5K Clayton Road Race returns in May for all ages. The annual Summer Playground Program offers supervised FUN for 9 weeks and with additional camps for volleyball, basketball, baseball, art and pottery.

We also hope you will join us for our family July 4th Celebration at Municipal Park. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and relax - or dance - to music by the popular Coastline Band and enjoy activities for all ages. Where else can you get a free slice of watermelon and ice cream cone, run a three-legged race with your child, win a prize at cornhole and listen to great music. That all leads up to the best fireworks show in the area that must be seen from the park to be fully appreciated.

Take advantage of our programs and facilities and see why Clayton is

“The Premier Community for the Active Families”.

PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis and ping-pong. It was designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty-five or somewhere in between. According to the USAPA (USA Pickleball Association), Pickleball is a fun game that is traditionally played on a badminton court with a low net like in tennis. It is played with a small plastic ball similar to whiffle balls and with wood or plastic racquets that look like over-sized ping-pong paddles.
