Pack a picnic or dine at the Harrison Park Inn, a restaurant on site.Visit the Black History Cairn and learn about Owen Sounds role in the Underground Railroad. Head to the aviary to feed the swans and see if you can spot any goslings, or look for salmon spawning in the river in fall. You can swim outdoors in a heated pool under a canopy of trees, or cool off on the quiet boardwalk at Weavers Creek Falls, where the temperature dips noticeably due to the cold, spring-fed water. Whens the last time you rode on a paddle-boat in a tranquil river or played a round of mini-golf? Harrison Park is an urban oasis for all ages and all seasons, loved by locals and visitors alike. Whether you have an hour to spare, or an entire day or weekend, Harrison Park will keep you occupied.Admission and parking are free. For more than a quarter of a century, until his death, he worked to turn the land into a park, creating roads and paths but preserving its natural state where possible. When Harrison Park was turned over to the city a century ago, it was deemed one of the most beautiful parks in Ontario. Today, it remains one of the areas greatest attractions, retaining the natural beauty and rustic charm that have drawn generations of people to its gates. Pick up a copy of the Harrison Park MapGuide at a local visitor centre or call 519-371-9833.
