‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.’

    Mathew 28:19

Happy New Year! Some of us revel in the newness of the calendar while others just count it as just another

day. Maybe just another year of doing the same stuff we have always done. But what of the possibilities the

new year could bring? It is an opportunity to begin afresh. Make good on past promises. It might be a clean

break from the past and a path to set new priorities for the coming year. Even the statement made by many of

us every January 1st  is in itself a hope that all those who we greet will at least receive happiness, otherwise

why would we wish others a Happy New Year?

This is true for me as your pastor. I pray that each of us does indeed receive a Happy New Year in 2014Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean that each of us will in fact receive the same level of happiness in

the coming year. Many of us will certainly be touched by things in the coming year in which we may begin

searching for a reason why happiness has escaped from our lives. We may be affected greatly by health

issues or loss of loved ones; we may face financial struggles or difficult choices that affect our livelihood and

may wonder just where the happiness has gone; we may be touched by unexplainable tragedy and left

wondering why? As we begin a new calendar year together I would like to share a poem that was passed to

me by a member of a former church I served in.

I Am Your Pastor - Author Unknown

When you rise to your highest and best, I am your pastor.

When you yield to temptation and fall to your lowest, I am your pastor. When you live in the spirit and manifest the attitude of a Christian - I am your pastor.

When you walk in the pathway of duty and do God’s will, I am your pastor.

When Joys come to you that swell the notes of praise in your heart, I am your pastor.

And when sorrows come as a dark shroud over your life, I am your pastor.

When you have done your best and deserve the approval of others, I am your pastor.

When you have done your best and your good is spoken as of evil, I am your pastor.

When you have all you need and more of the necessities of life, I am your pastor.

When you feel the pinch of poverty and your power to earn decreases, I am your pastor.

When you keep sweet and gracious as a mature Christian ought, I am your pastor.

When you act childish over some real or imagined wrong, I am your pastor.

When everything goes right and you have not a care in the world, I am your pastor. When nothing seems right and burdens multiply, I am your pastor.

When you encourage me by the stand you take and the wonderful spirit you manifest, I am your pastor

When health fails and the end of mortal life seems near, I am your pastor.

When I reveal that I am human and have my own weaknesses and infirmities and you are charitable and understanding,

I count it a privilege to be your Pastor.

Happy New Year! May God’s blessings be upon each of you, now and forever more. Amen.

See you at church!  Pastor John

The service began with the Allan Bean Familyreading about the advent candles of hope, peace, love, and joy, and then lighting them.

“A Festival of Lessons and Carols” was the

theme with scripture lessons interspersedwith appropriate carols. After the 4th  Lessonwas read from Titus, the Chancel Choir sangthe stirring anthem, “Do You Hear What IHear?” and after Mary’s story and the birth ofJesus were read from Luke, Debra Scottplaced the baby Jesus in the manger scene.
