As Governor, it is a pleasure to wel-come you to the 2014 Indiana State Fair. Indiana is home to the nation’s best State Fair and the tradition con-tinues this year. My wife Karen and I have always enjoyed our time here, and we look forward to celebrating the “Year of the Coliseum” with our fellow Hoosiers in the coming weeks.

The Coliseum holds a special place in our hearts as it was the site of our very first date. Since that day, we have returned time and again with our children—now grown and in college—and we often enjoy reflecting on the many memories we’ve created here at the Coliseum. It’s a place the Pence family truly cherishes.

This year, Hoosiers across the state can revel in the newly renovated Coliseum, which features a double-decked seating bowl, a state-of-the-art sound system, and an LED video scoreboard with an 800-foot ribbon board, all inside a revitalized 1939 classic art deco shell. We are certain that with these top-notch additions, the Coliseum will continue to bring families together through events like this year’s draft horse competitions, livestock shows, the Champion Drive, the Celebration of Champions and several headline concerts.

I encourage all to take advantage of the family experiences and educational opportunities you will find right here at the Indiana State Fair. Check out Pioneer Village and the Glass Barn, presented by The Indiana Soybean Alliance, which was unveiled last year and hosts an array of interactive games and activities that teach the basics of farming and food production. Stop by the Dairy Bar to try all foods dairy, and teach young Hoosiers how to fish at the FishIN’ Pond behind the Department of Natural Resources Building. And, for those wondering how to find each of these places, the Indiana State Fair App Map has you covered.

Thank you to the Indiana State Fair Commission for planning and hosting the 2014 Indiana State Fair. Your dedication to and involvement in the Hoosier community is what makes events like the State Fair possible and Indiana a great place to live.

Sincerely,

Michael R. PenceGovernor of Indiana

There’s more to celebrate during the Indiana

State Fair. Located in the heart of the Fair-

grounds, the DuPont Food Pavilion is near

the center of it all. Food is the top reason visi-

tors attend the State Fair and it’s the star of

the DuPont Food Pavilion. The building is

dedicated entirely to Indiana food, the farmers

who grow it, the chefs who prepare it, the arti-

sans who craft it and the issues connected to it.

Here are a few of the ways that visitors can

enjoy the DuPont Food Pavilion:

· Relax and watch one of nine daily demon-

strations on the Red Gold Culinary Corner.

Topics range from filleting a fish to making

gourmet chocolate.

· Sample and buy local foods. Savor bourbon

maple syrup, elephant ear flavored marsh-

mallows or artisanal cheese, among other

products.

FOOD AND FUN...DUPONT FOOD PAVILION

· Marvel at the cheese sculpture. An annual

highlight is seeing what masterpiece can be

carved from cheese.

· Explore healthy food choices. Purdue

University’s Bone Zone Carnival of

Healthy Choices is a kid-friendly, inter-

active display offering advice on nutrition.

From sea salt caramels to chipotle catsup and

local chefs to culinary trendsetters, there’s a lot

ENTERTAINMENT, EXHIBITS & SPECIAL FEATURESThe State Fair is filled with entertainment… it’s everywhere! The daily schedules in this program list everything going on each day, and we’ve highlighted some of them here. Enjoy!

CONCERTS & ENTERTAINMENTCO

NCERTS & ENTERTAINMENT

MHS pres. Flippenout Extreme Trampoline Show – Trampoline tricks are not for the faint of heart! The athletes in the Flippenout Extreme Trampoline Show reach heights as high as 25 feet as they flip and twist…even on skis and snowboards strapped to their feet! This high-energy, synchronized show has been featured in stadiums and arenas all over the country and stops at the fair for three daily performances in the Dow AgroSciences Celebration Park all 17 days of the fair.

Indiana State Fair Beer & Wine Exhibition –The new Beer & Wine exhibition will showcase Indiana agriculture through its growing craft beer and wine industries. This year’s exhibition will be held in the Grand Hall on Main Street and open only to visitors 21 and older. The Grand Hall provides a safe, controlled area where industry professionals will also be able to edu-cate fairgoers on the growing, manufacturing and selling process, and visitors will be able to purchase beer and wine by the glass with limits. We hope to get a lot of feedback regarding the new exhibition, which will figure into future exhibitions.

Freestyle Madness BMX Stunt Show – Solution Action Sports brings its high-flying, handlebar-twisting, 360-degree flipping BMX athletes to the State Fair for 10 days of heart-pounding tricks. The group performs three shows daily in the Dow AgroSciences Celebration Park Aug. 1 – 10.

K9 Crew Trick Dog Show – Tony Hoard and his canines gained national fame when they performed on “America’s Got Talent.” Now they take their tricks around the country to NBA arenas and other prominent events. They’ll be in the Dow AgroSciences Celebra-tion Park for four shows Aug. 11 and two more shows Aug. 12.

National Belgian Draft Horse Show – After 54 years in Iowa, the National Belgian Draft Horse Show is coming to the Indiana State Fair Aug. 14 – 16. The Belgian Draft Horse Corporation of America, the premier Draft horse breed registry in the country, decided to bring the show to Indianapolis due in part to the renovation of the Coliseum. The show is free and open to the public.

Kachunga & the Alligator – After 25 years of successfully entertaining audiences around the world, this fun and informative show comes to the fair for its final five days. Kachunga & the Alligator began in an attempt to educate people about the American alligator. The show certainly does that, but it also uses humor and dangerous stunts to keep kids of all ages riveted through each performance. The show will be in the Dow AgroSciences Celebration Park three times daily Aug. 13 – 17.

The Hoosier Millionaire 25th Anniversary Show – Who wants to be the next Hoosier Millionaire? The Indiana State Fair is hoping that one lucky visitor will leave the fair $1 mil-lion richer! On Saturday, Aug. 16, the HoosierLottery’s 25th Anniversary Hoosier Millionaire Show takes place at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand with two live shows, one at 3 p.m. and another at 6 p.m. One contestant will be chosen FROM THE AUDIENCE at the 3 p.m. show. Entry deadline is 2:15 p.m. The winner of that show will compete in the Championship Show at 6 p.m. for a chance to be the next Hoosier Millionaire! Both shows are FREE, open to the public and offer the chance towin great prizes! Must be 18 or older to play and win. See the August 16th page for more details.

Indiana State Fair Vet Camp – Hosted by the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, this program is designed for future veterinarians. Pre-registered participants in grades 6 through 12 get to experience a wide variety of practical veterinary duties and procedures, including reading x-rays, examining microscopic samples and suturing. The camp runs Aug. 1 – 10 in conjunction with the Spay/Neuter demonstrations on the Fairgrounds’ north side near the Greenhouse. For more information or to register email [email protected].

Subaru Main Street Stage – Indiana is home to terrific talent crossing all types of genres. Whether country, hip-hop, Christian, pop or blues is your thing, you’ll likely find it on the Subaru Main Street Stage! Featuring all Indiana-based artists, this stage plays host to some of our state’s best home-grown entertainment.

The Gantry Show – It’s a travelling circus – literally! The Gantry Show is a self-contained, portable, theatrical circus that features talented traditional circus acts while the ap-paratuses they perform on are in motion. The performance structure moves on an innovative pedal-driven 22’ high stage-like mechanical apparatus showcasing multiple aerial and ground acts such as contortion, Chinese poles and trapeze. Fairgoers can find this circus moving around the Hoosier Lottery Grand-stand Side Lot Aug. 1 – 12.

ShenaniGuns! Comedy Wild West Show – Sheriff Hoppalong Casually and Deputy Leon Jones ride into the State Fair with their Wild West Town ready to make fairgoers fall over laughing. This fast-paced, old-time comedy show features lots of one-liners, sight gags and general silliness that will entertain kids and parents alike. ShenaniGuns will perform three shows daily in the Family Fun Park.

Great American Duck Race – If it walks, talks and quacks like a duck, it must be the Great American Duck Race! This fun show has more to do with corny duck jokes (that can be a little fowl) and audience participation than incred-ibly athletic web-footed creatures, but the bottom line is fun for everyone. There will be four racing events each day of the fair in the Family Fun Park. No wagering, please.
