Every player put their heart and soul into excelling on the basketball court as well as in the classroom. The boy’s basketball team in particular, had an extraordinary year ending their season with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. Next year, the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams look to im-prove on strides that they made this past year.

Montgomery County Public Schools will Make-up only 2 DAYS of school!!!

By Mr. Joseph

Due to extreme weather this school year, Montgomery County Public Schools will only have to make-up 2 school days, Monday, April 21st, and Friday, June 13th. MCPS this school year has had a total of ten snow days. Much like 2010, waves of snow accumulation blanketed the Washington Metropolitan area which continued into the end of March, 2014. State and local governments were stretched to the limit this year as one snow storm after the other came through the area. Many students were pleased to have had several mini winter breaks this school year. The only changes that will occur because of the make-up days is the final exam window in middle schools and high schools. They will be moved back one day, middle school final exams will run from Friday, June 6, 2014, to Friday, June 13, 2014 and high school final exams will run from Monday, June 9, 2014, to Friday, June 13, 2014.

Pennies for Patients: Penny Wars!!!

By Mr. Joseph

On Monday, March 3, 2014, the Lee MS Stu-dent Government Association began their an-nual Pennies for Patients fundraiser activity “Penny Wars.” Usually, its a contest between each grade level, this year the contest was be-tween students and staff to see who could col-lect the most pennies in their bottle without deductions from their penny count from nick-els, dimes, quarters, or bills. Funds collected from this event went directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to assist them with their research for a cure for kids with leuke-mia and lymphoma. This year the staff were victorious in the Penny Wars contest as they were able to gain more pennies in their bottle than the students.

The Lee SGA Valentine’s Day Dance was a hit! The dance was well attended and students seemed to have a great time. The dance had a neon lights theme and each student received either glow necklaces, bracelets or neon col-ored beads as they entered the dance. Special thanks goes out to PTSA for providing the con-cession stand.

Braving the Weather at Outdoor Education ‘14

By Mr. Joseph

Outdoor Environmental Education Week for the 6th graders this year was memorable because not only was it freezing but there was several inches of snow on the ground. For many of our 6th graders, this would be their first time away from their parents. All things considered, they took the time away from home in stride. At out-door environmental education, the students were able to participate in activities such as Predator Prey, Confidence Course, and Orient-eering. Overwhelmingly, Predator Prey proved to be the favorite activity according to both 6th grade sessions. Another activity which students really enjoyed was the camp fire. During this activity students were able to roast marshmal-lows and enjoy a campfire favorite S’mores. The night hike was also a fun time as the students walked the trails telling ghost stories. On the last night of outdoor environmental education, the students were treated to a dance hosted by Mr. J.

CyberSafety

The Internet is a fabulous resource for education, enter-tainment, and more. But the Internet is not regulated or controlled by any one entity. So parents and schools have a responsibility to educate children about its safe and ap-propriate use.

It is imperative that parents and students report unsafe incidents to law enforcement so that offenders can be ap-prehended and prosecuted.
