SAFETY INFORMATION

Set volume levels and other controls on audio and elec-tronic devices before riding. Distractions can lead to lossof control, resulting in death or serious injury. (00088b)

Set CB channel, squelch threshold and volume beforeriding to minimize adjustments on the road. Distractionscan lead to loss of control, resulting in death or seriousinjury. (00089a)

Do not select a volume level that blocks out traffic noiseor interrupts the concentration necessary for safe opera-tion of the motorcycle. Distractions or a volume level thatblocks out traffic noise could cause loss of control res-ulting in death or serious injury. (00539b)

There are no serviceable parts inside the unit; leave allservicing to qualified service personnel. Disassembly ofthe unit could result in equipment damage and/or equip-ment malfunction. (00172a)

This manual explains the operation of the Boom!™ BoxInfotainment system. Read this manual carefully and keep itwith your motorcycle at all times.

See the owner's manual for your vehicle for important ridersafety information.

Follow all the warnings, cautions and safety tips shownthroughout this manual.

See Figure 1 and Figure 2. Do not use any feature of thissystem to the extent it becomes a distraction and prevents saferiding. The first priority while riding should always be the safeoperation of the vehicle.While riding, observe all traffic regula-tions.

Pay attention while riding. Always concentrate on riding bykeeping your eyes and mind on the road. For safety, programthe system when stopped. Some features are limited whenmotorcycle is in motion.

Perform system setup and get familiar with the controls andfeatures of the infotainment system before operating themotorcycle on the road.

Navigation

The data in the navigation system may be incomplete. Roadconditions, including restrictions (no left turns, street closures,etc.) frequently change. Therefore, before following anyinstruction from the system, look to see whether the instructioncan be done safely and legally.

Adjusting Fade (if equipped)

Fade adjusts the volume balance between the rider (front) andpassenger (rear) speakers.

• Press the Fade/Speed Volume button to access the Fadeadjustment screen.

• See Figure 20. Press F to move the balance to the frontspeakers.

• Press R to move the balance to the rear speakers.

NOTE

Equal volume to front and rear speakers is indicated by thecenter circle segment.

Enabling Speed Volume or Automatic Volume Control(AVC)

The Speed Volume control allows the volume level to com-pensate for the ambient noise associated with motorcyclespeed. The compensation can be adjusted to four differentcompensation levels.

• See Figure 20. Press the Fade/Speed Volume button toaccess the Speed Volume adjustment screen.

• Press the + or - buttons to adjust the compensation level.

• Pressing the - button until no segments are highlightedwill turn the AVC off.

Adjusting Screen Brightness

See Figure 21 and Figure 22. Set screen brightness to Auto-matic or manual mode. When Automatic mode is checked, thedisplay brightness will be adjusted according to the ambientlight.

To toggle to manual mode:

• Select Automatic button to remove check mark.

• Press + or - to adjust the display backlight in manual mode.

Changing Colors

Bluetooth setup controls are used connect Bluetooth devicesfor phone (HFP) or music (A2DP) usage or delete pairing ofBluetooth devices that were previously paired. Through theBluetooth setup menu, the user can also load custom ring tonesfrom a USB flash drive.

Pairing a Bluetooth Device

1. Verify that your Bluetooth-compatible device is ON andset to discoverable. See the owner's manual for yourspecific device.

2. Select List Paired Devices from the Bluetooth setupscreen.

3. See Figure 33. Select Add a New Device.

4. All discoverable devices within range will appear in the listof found devices. Select the device to be paired from thatlist.

5. Follow the prompts on the Boom! Box and your deviceregarding Personal Identification Numbers (PINs).

6. See Figure 34. Press OK to complete pairing of device.

7. After a device has been paired, the system will prompt foran emergency number, such as 9-1-1, if one has not beenpreviously provided.

8. After inputting an emergency number, save the numberby pressing SAVE, located in lower right corner of thescreen.

User Time is set manually by the user, including setting thetime zone. In GPS Time, the time zone and the clock will beautomatically adjusted according to the vehicle's current geo-graphical location.

In GPS Time mode, the time displayed can be adjusted to beeither behind (negative offset) or ahead (positive offset) of theGPS reference time. When the time displayed has offset, theoffset will be displayed next to the - or + buttons.

Route Calculation

The default route calculation selects the fastest route (time) toreach the destination. Other preferences can be selected:Twisty, Scenic and Shortest (distance).

Route calculations can be set for one-way or round trip.

Avoidance preferences can be selected. Options include:Highways, Toll Roads, Ferries, Tunnels, Car/Train, UnpavedRoads, Seasonal Restrictions and Borders.

Appearance

The appearance of the navigation maps include: Point-of-Interest (POI) icons enabled or disabled, 2D or 3D map styles,map orientation with North Up or Heading Up, Motorcycle Iconand other graphical map items. Refer to Table 19 for theappearance options.

4. Connect the USB drive to the USB port.

5. Follow the radio display to update the radio software.

All audio sources, except Bluetooth audio streaming devices,can have user-set presets. To store a preset:

SETTING AND USING FAVORITES

Favorites

Favorites are similar to Presets. Favorites are user-set short-cuts to radio stations (Tuner), connected devices (Media),artists or songs that are listened to frequently.

In select markets, an audio channel from SiriusXM can beprogrammed as a favorite.

Storing items from a removable device as a Favorite is possible.These items can be recalled only if the source device is con-nected to the system.

There are two locations of Favorites, the Fav faceplate buttoncontrol and the list of Favorites under the Fav button in theHome screen. The Fav faceplate button control can onlystore one favorite selection.

OPERATING THE RADIO

Selecting Radio Band

Category (Cat)

In FM mode there may be various program types (PTY) avail-able. Refer to Table 22 (North America) and Table 23 (otherregions). Selecting one of the PTY categories will make thetuner stop when seeking or scanning, but only on the radiostations that broadcast PTY categories.

Press the Cat button to view the current selection. If none ofthe categories are selected, the tuner will stop on every stationavailable. Set All will stop at all stations that broadcast thosePTY categories.

NOTE

If unable to find stations during a seek, tune or scan, checkthe PTY categories that are selected. A filter symbol is dis-played when PTY categories are set.

Seek,Tune, Presets and RBDS/RDS

Seek: Refer to Table 22. This button changes the functionalityof the Seek Up and Seek Down buttons on the left handlebarcontrols or passenger controls (if equipped).

The default operation of Seek Up and Seek Down buttons isthat a short press will automatically go up or down severalfrequencies until it finds the next strong signal. A long presswill do a Tune operation (you will hear the static of the frequen-cies that do not have a station). When you release the seekbutton it ends with a seek function.

When set to Tune, a short press of the Seek Up or Seek Downbutton will do a tune operation - the radio will stop on everyfrequency. A long press will do a seek operation, finding to thenext strong frequency.

If the value is set to Presets, the seek buttons will change theaudio source or station by increasing or decreasing the cur-rently selected Preset.

Scan: This button starts a Scan operation. The radio continu-ously tunes from one strong station to the next one until a sta-tion is selected. Each strong station remains tuned in for 5seconds before the radio scans to the next station. To selecta station, press the Enter/Select key on the right handlebarcontrols to select the station.

RDS/RBDS: See Figure 48. Radio Data System (RDS) andRadio Broadcast Data System (RDBS) are both data channelsthat the FM radio receiver uses for displaying data. RDS isused primarily in Europe and can display Weather, Traffic andother text on the radios that support this. RBDS is the used inNorth America and is used to display the radio station nameand/or Artist/Song name on the radios that support this. Notall radio stations transmit RBDS or RDS text data.

When RBDS or RDS is unchecked, only the radio frequencywill be displayed.

OPERATING A MEDIA DEVICEMany USB and Bluetooth compatible devices allow playback

through the audio system speakers or headsets. Refer toTable 24 (USB device) and Table 25 (Bluetooth device) for alist of selections to operate these devices.

Control of the media device is through the handlebar controls,touch screen (6.5 models only), soft keys (4.3 models only)and passenger controls (if equipped).

NOTE

• Media playback over USB takes precedence overBluetooth. On some devices, Bluetooth audio streamingis not accessible while the device is connected and playingthrough the USB port.

• Some of the functions described are not available forBluetooth connected devices.

USB Media Menu

The Boom! Box has a USB port that allows connection of acompatible phone, media player or USB flash drive.

See Figure 5. The USB port is located inside the Jukeboxmedia compartment.

Find: Enables browsing through media files by playlist, artist,album, song or genre.

Playlist: If the device contains playlists, available playlists willbe displayed.

Artist: Enables browsing through media files by artist. Inaddition to scrolling with the up or down arrows (on right sideof screen), letter jump option is available by pressing the letterlocated between the arrows. This option will display full key-board screen. Select a letter for the artist sort and the list willjump to that letter in the artist list.

Album: Enables browsing through media files by album name.In addition to scrolling with the arrows, letter jump option isalso available.

Song: Enables browsing through media files by song name.In addition to scrolling with the arrows, letter jump option isalso available.

Genre: Enables browsing through media files by music genre.In addition to scrolling with the arrows, letter jump option isalso available.

Scan: The scan operation will continuously change songsevery 5 seconds until scan is cancelled.To cancel scan (selectthe song), press the Enter/Select key on the right handlebar.

Repeat: Pressing the Repeat button will enable or disable therepeat of the playing song.

Shuffle: Pressing the Shuffle button will enable or disable theshuffle option. When checked, the sequence of the song willchange.

Squelch threshold level will be shown on the display. The CBsignal will be sent to the speakers or headset when the CBsignal strength exceeds the set threshold level.

Adjust volume through the CB screen (see Figure 55). Use lefthand controls to adjust the volume. A volume scale will bedisplayed while adjusting the volume.

Transmitting over CB

See CONTROLS, Boom! Box Hand Controls and Table 5. Totransmit, press and hold the PTT button in the right hand controlor in the Passenger controls (if equipped).To end transmission,release the PTT button.

Adjusting VOX Sensitivity

See Figure 55. VOX sensitivity should be adjusted so that themicrophones break VOX at a normal voice volume. TheIntercom icon in the status bar may be helpful for performingthe adjustment. In the Intercom screen, press on the - or +buttons to adjust the VOX sensitivity level. VOX sensitivitysettings are retained between regular vehicle ignition cycles.

VOX sensitivity may need adjusting if either microphone isunintentionally activated because the microphone misinterpretsradio, road or background sound as conversation.

Adjusting Rider Headset Volume

1. Access the Intercom screen and speak into the passengermicrophone.

Making a Phone Call from the Phone Book

Phone calls can be made using the phone book data of theconnected phone.

1. Select Contacts from the Phone menu.

2. Select Phone Book.

3. Scroll or use the letter jump to find a stored contact name.

4. Select the name and press the number.

The phone book changes depending on the phone connected.

If a contact entry in the phone book does not have a phonenumber stored, the contact will not be displayed.

The Phone Book can display icons for home, cellular, work orother phone numbers. These icons depend on the entries inthe connected phone.

Show Details displays other information that belongs to theselected contact, such as other phone numbers or an address.

The selected contact can also be saved to a local list in theBoom! Box system, by selecting Add to Saved Contacts.

Dialing a Number

1. Go to Home screen.

1. Go to Home screen.

5. Check the Enable SMS checkbox.

6. See Figure 59. When a message is received, the NewMessages icon will be displayed in the status bar (6.5

models). The Inbox will display the number of unreadmessages.

7. Press the Inbox button to see the list of received mes-sages.

8. Press the button for the incoming message to open themessage. A Text-To-Speech (TTS) feature on the systemwill read the message.The message will be heard throughthe speakers or headsets.

Repeat the message by pressing Repeat in the upper rightcorner of the title bar.

9. Press the "i" button in between the up/down arrows to seeinformation from a selected message.The information willinclude the contact name (if known), date and time themessage was received.

OPERATING VOICE RECOGNITIONAlways speak into the headset microphone as calmly andnormally as possible. Rapid speech or a raised voice level willdegrade voice recognition capability. Pressing the VoiceCommand button while the system is speaking is known as"barging in." The system will be interrupted and you can addor change commands.

Proper placement of the microphone is critical to the effective-ness of voice recognition.

When the Voice Command button is pressed on the left handcontrol, a beep will sound. The beep is a prompt to speak a

command.The system will present a list of possible commands.The commands are universal rather than mode-specific, forexample, the rider can say a media command while in tunermode.The system will switch to media mode and carry out thecommand.

Fuel

• Route/View: Displays name, address and phone numberof selected gas station. Press "Go" button to display routeon a map.

• Fuel Prices: Displays fuel prices for all fuel types for theselected gas station.

Forecast

See Figure 67 and Table 33. Selecting Forecast displays theweather forecast for current or other selected location. Locationmust be selected before forecast can be displayed.

• Current: Displays a summary of the current local weatherconditions. Press Details button for additional forecastinformation.

• Daily: Displays forecasted weather conditions in threehours and six hours from the current time.

• 5 Day: Displays forecasted weather conditions for eachof the next five days.

• Trip Summary: This screen provides information for acurrent trip - start and end time, average speed, fuel usedand mileage (if available).

• Record On: Checking this option will draw a line on themap for roads that have been used in the past.

Displaying Point of Interest (POI) Menu

See Figure 70. Selecting POIs from the Navigation Main menuor from the slide-out menu will allow the user to find Points ofInterest, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, shoppingand other categories.

Once the desired POI is found and selected, the Navigationsystem can calculate a route from the current location to thedestination address of that POI.

Secondary Menu

Import: Allows the user to view the Devices Available screen.This display is a list of USB-connected devices. Saved loca-tions, trails or trips can be imported. These files can be builtusing the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner (www.ride-planner.harley-davidson.com).

NOTE

Imported trips are limited to nine stopovers.

Select a USB device from the Devices Available to view theSelect File list screen.This screen displays all of the compatiblefiles on the selected media device. Selecting a file from thislist allows the user to view the available locations, trails or tripswithin the file.

The file content list screen allows the user to select any com-bination of available import types or use Select All to import allavailable information into the radio's storage. After the desiredlist items have been selected for import, select the import buttonfrom the middle of the scroll bar in order to initiate the transfer.After the transfer has been completed, a message screen willbe appear indicating the result of the transfer.

Once the files are imported to the radio, the trips and trails canbe routed to using their buttons on the navigation Where Toscreen. Individual locations which are imported onto the systemcan be routed to using the saved button on the navigationWhere To screen.

Export: Allows the user to view the Devices Available listscreen. This screen displays a list of connected USB deviceswhich are available for a user to export files to. After selectinga USB device, the Destination Export screen will be displayed.This screen contains a list of stored information that is availablefor export. Exported data, including saved locations, trips andtrails can be shared with other riders or uploaded to the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner (www.rideplanner.harley-dav-idson.com).

NOTE

The USB device must be formatted to FAT32 in order to supportexporting data.

Select the desired list items and select the export button fromthe middle of the scrollbar to initiate the transfer from the radio'sstorage to the USB device. Once export is completed, a mes-sage screen will appear indicating the result of the export.

The file contained on the USB stick, named H-D_NavData.gpx,can be imported onto other Harley-Davidson radios or uploadedto the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner website.

AUDIO SYSTEM CAREUse only Harley-Davidson recommended products andmethods to keep the radio, speakers and other audio systemcomponents clean and in good condition. Do not use anyabrasives, polishes or rubbing compounds to clean the screenor other components. Use of other products or methods maycause damage to components.

Replaceable Screen Protector

BOOM! Box 6.5T/GT radios have a replaceable screen pro-tector. Remove and replace the protector if it becomes dull,scratched or worn. Damage to the screen due to use withouta screen protector will not be covered under warranty.

Radio/Screen Washing

Wash the screen and radio faceplate according to the washingprocedure for the motorcycle. First rinse any heavy sedimentsfrom the screen. Use SUNWASH BIKE SOAP, water and anH-D WASH MITT to clean. Rinse radio with low-pressure water.

Screen Touch-Up Cleaning

Use glass or lens cleaner (without ammonia) and a microfiberdetailing cloth to clean the screen between washes.

If there are heavy sediments, first rinse the screen to loosenand remove those sediments. Do not rub sediments into thescreen.

Spray a light amount of cleaner on the microfiber cloth. Applycircular motions from the center and outwards. Use a drymicrofiber cloth to dry the screen. Repeat the process asnecessary.

NOTE

Do not use any screen enhancing chemicals or products.Thesecan damage the screen surface.

Speaker Care

If a haze develops on speakers with a protective grille, useHARLEY SEAT, SADDLEBAG, AND TRIM CLEANER and aSOFTCLOTH or SOFT DETAILING PAD to clean. Do not applywax or any other similar products on speaker grilles.

Do not use compressed or forced air on speakers.

Vehicles with saddlebag speakers are designed to preventwater intrusion and to allow water to drain during washing orriding in all weather. To remove any standing water fromsaddlebag speakers, open the saddlebags and gently shakeany remaining water from the speakers.

2014 LIMITED RADIO WARRANTYHarley-Davidson warrants that your Harley-Davidson radio willbe free from factory defects in factory materials and workman-ship, under normal use and service, for a period of twenty-four(24) months starting from the earlier of (a) the date of initialretail purchase of the motorcycle on which the radio is installed,or (b) the third anniversary of the last day of the model year ofthe motorcycle on which the radio is installed. Any unexpiredportion of this limited warranty will be transferred to subsequentowner(s), upon the resale of the motorcycle during the limitedwarranty period. If the motorcycle was used as a demonstratoror company motorcycle, then the limited warranty period mayhave started and/or expired prior to the initial retail sale.
