Wheelchair accessible areas are available in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.

Please let us know if you require seating in this area and if you want a seat for someone

near you.

Individuals will not be seated after a performance begins except at appropriate times

during the program. Latecomers will be asked to stand at the back of the hall or to sit

in the unreserved seating section if space permits. This is to ensure the safety of latecomers,

to be considerate of guests already seated and to preserve the artistic integrity of the

performances.

Renewal deadline for the 2014-2015 Encore Series is August 29, 2014. Season Ticket

holders must submit their orders before this date to have first choice of seating locations

before tickets are made available to new subscribers.

FHSU students may purchase individual tickets for half the price on the night of the

performance at the Sheridan Hall box office only. One ticket per show with Tiger Card.

A set of tickets is one ticket to each of the eight performances.

Any FHSU employee may pay for their season tickets with ten convenient payroll deductions.

All children must have tickets. Tickets may not be purchased for children four or under.

Please use your discretion in deciding if programs are suitable for children 5-17 years in age.

All pagers, cell phones, tablets, and other mobile devices must be turned off during all performances.

The use of camera, flashes, and recording devices during performances is strictly prohibited.

Please arrive on time usually 15-30 minutes before the start of the performance, allowing

enough time for trips to the restroom and reading the program. Latecomers disturb the

patrons around them and will be seated during a suitable moment at the usher’s discretion.

Please check all coats in the Coat Room ahead of the performance.

Please remain in your seat during the performance. Use the restroom before the show and

during intermission.

No food or drink is allowed in the theatre and may only be consumed in the lobby.

Don’t be afraid to laugh, applaud, and show your appreciation for the actors’ hard work.

Please remain in you seat until the curtain call is over and the house lights have come up.

Please observe the common sense rules of common courtesy. Be quiet during the

performance, don’t cut in line at the restroom and respect the theatre-going experience of

everyone around you.

Julie Fowlis: Music of the Scottish Isles

Thursday, October 16

Julie Fowlis is a groundbreaking artist who continues to entice new audiences worldwide and push accepted musical boundaries with her adaptations of songs from her native Scottish Gaelic tradition. It is little wonder that when Disney Pixar (Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Up) was searching for the perfect, authentic singing voice to feature in the soundtrack to Brave, their 3D animated blockbuster set in 10th century Scotland, their research led them to one of the country’s true contemporary treasures – Julie Fowlis.

Julie Fowlis is no stranger to awards and distinctions, winning Gaelic Singer of the Year & Album of the Year (on two occasions) at the Scots Trad Music Awards, plus several other major accolades including Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. She is perhaps most proud of her award as Scotland’s Gaelic Ambassador- ‘Tosgaire na Gàidhlig’, bestowed by the Scottish Parliament in 2008, the first person to ever receive this honor. Julie has graced the stage at notable venues around the world including London’s Barbican, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Mozart Concert Hall in Vienna, Edinburgh Castle, Glasgow and Dublin Concert Halls, and in the autumn of 2012 performed to a worldwide audience of millions for the closing ceremony of the USA hosted 2012 Ryder Cup in Medina, Illinois.

Embracing Chicago’s rich history via contemporary dance like never before, The White City: Chicago’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 is an ambitious one-act multimedia period piece that brings to life the characters and headlines of one of Chicago’s greatest events. Tony Award-winning choreographer Ann Reinking and the company’s artistic director Melissa Thodos collaborated to create this epic work, which is set to Bruce Wolosoff’s “Songs Without Words”.

The full company of 12 dancers will perform to tell the story of the legendary 1893 World’s Fair through dance. Characters portrayed range from Mayor Carter Harrison, Sr.; Harrison’s assassin, Patrick Prendergast; John Root, one of the key architects of the Chicago’s World Fair, and Dr. H.H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed Murder Castle.

The evening also includes additional pieces from Thodos’ inventive and imaginative repertory that will be featured in the second act.

All aboard for this saucy and splendid production of Anything Goes, winner of three 2011 Tony Awards® including Best Musical Revival and Choreography! One of the greatest musicals in theater history, Cole Porter’s first-class musical comedy is sailing to Hays, Kansas. The New York Times hails it a “Musical-comedy joy” and USA TODAY calls it “Glorious and exuberant!”

When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention get tossed out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love…proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this timeless classic are some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards, including “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “You’re the Top,” and of course, “Anything Goes.” Don’t miss what the AP exclaims as, “So delightful, so delicious, so de-lovely!”

The Hunts are an indie-folk band from the southlands of Chesapeake, Virginia. Driven by a passion for creating compelling music, these seven brothers and sisters bring to the stage an amazing chemistry and powerful presence. Having been instilled with a love of music from a very young age, all seven Hunts are phenomenally talented vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. Their songs are meticulously driven by violin, acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, accordion, ukulele and piano, and rounded out with crisp harmonies.

The Hunts have completed 7 U.S. tours, including performances in 42 states, and traveled worldwide for over 10 years. In November of 2012, they released their newest album, We Were Young, featuring 10 original songs. The album’s first track, “Make This Leap,” started receiving airplay from key market radio stations almost immediately after the album’s release and was picked up by Milk-Bone for a national commercial in May of 2013. The Hunts were selected for Taco Bell’s 2013 “Feed the Beat” roster, and they signed a 6-album deal with Cherrytree Records, a label under the umbrella of Interscope Records.

Inspired by “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Star Wars,” “The Intergalactic Nemesis” is a one-of-a-kind mash-up of radio drama and comic book adventure. Three actors voice dozens of characters, a Foley artist creates hundreds of sound effects, a keyboardist performs a score while more than 1,250 individual, full-color, hand-drawn, high-resolution comic book images are projected on an enormous screen.

At the very moment that Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Molly Sloan and her intrepid assistant Timmy Mendez find their story on international pelt smuggling at a dead end, their contact is assassinated right before their eyes. Molly and Timmy have stumbled upon the story of the century: an impending invasion of sludge monsters from the planet Zygon. The year is 1933. Are you ready for the adventure?

Rockapella A special off-series event.

Wednesday, December 3

“Some say the best musical instrument of all is the human voice - if you’ve seen Rockapella you know that’s the truth,” says USA TODAY. This five-man powerhouse of vocal talent sweeps through sold-out venues across the country year-round. With an ever-expanding fan base, they’re known as the Kings of Contemporary A Cappella. Individually, Rockapella is: Scott Leonard (high tenor), Kevin Wright (tenor), Jeff Thacher (vocal percussionist), George Baldi (bass) and Calvin Jones (tenor). The group was formed for the sheer love of performing; singing on New York City street corners with a hat out at their feet. They caught the eye of a producer putting together a television special titled “Spike & Co.: Do It A Cappella,” hosted by filmmaker Spike Lee. This in turn led to a daily appearance on “Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?,” a wildly popular kid’s game show on public television. Television & radio commercials and international recording contracts followed. Rockapella has released 20 albums over the last 20 years, with their most recent titled, “A Rockapella Holiday.”

Rockapella’s holiday show is one not to miss. With their completely original take on the holidays and adding their smooth edge to the season’s warm heart, Rockapella will crisscross the country spreading the joy of the holiday season through their music. From very unexpected takes on classic favorites to brand new originals destined to be classics, audiences can expect to be tickled and touched by a holiday performance like no other.

Spreading holiday joy with stunning, world class voices.
