Ord brings 21 years of coaching experience to Weber State, including coaching in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in three seasons and the NCAA

championship game in 2009.

Prior to coming to Ogden, Ord spend four seasons as an assistant with the Uni-versity of Louisville women’s basketball program.

She went to Louisville af-ter spending two seasons at the University of Colorado.

In her second season at Louisville the Cardinals

made their first NCAA Final Four appearance, advanc-ing to the championship game. The Cardinals finished with their highest ranking of No. 2 in 2009. Ord was instrumental in bringing in back-to-back Top 15 recruit-ing classes in her first two seasons with the Cards. The most recent recruiting class was ranked in the Top 5, the highest ranked class in school history.

Ord went to Colorado after a six year stint at Tulsa. At Tulsa she served as the program’s recruiting coor-dinator, while also assisting with opponent scouting and serving as the compliance liaison.

Her recruiting efforts at Tulsa resulted in three Top 50 recruiting classes and one in the Top 25. Ord helped guide Tulsa to the 2004 and 2005 WNIT, the only two postseason appearances at the time. She also helped the Golden Hurricanes land at least one player on either the All-Western Athletic Conference first or second teams in each of her six seasons.

In 1998-99 prior to joining the staff at Tulsa, Ord was the head women’s coach for Western New York in the

Empire State Games. She was hired by the Buffalo Sabres as a consultant and was in charge of public and community relations for the Buffalo Bandits professional lacrosse team.

Ord also served a one year stint as an assistant at the University of Dayton (1997-98), serving as the recruit-ing coordinator, where she landed the highest ranked recruiting class in school history.

She also spent one sea-son at Auburn University (1996-97) where she was an assistant. While at Auburn, the Tigers won the 1997 Southeastern Conference Tournament championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tourna-ment.

Ord spent four seasons at the University of Pittsburgh (1992-96), helping the Pan-thers to a WNIT appearance in 1995.

After her first season at Pittsburgh, she was an assistant coach with the BIG EAST Conference All-Star Tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1993. She was responsible for coaching the guards and coordinating recruiting.

Fast Facts

History: Weber State University was founded in Ogden, Utah as Weber Stake Academy in 1889. Like Weber County and the Weber River, the school was named after John Henry Weber, an early fur trader. In 1933, the academy was made a state junior college. Following World War II, the college outgrew its down-town campus and moved to the present site on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains overlooking Ogden and the Great Salt Lake. Weber State College awarded its first baccalaureate de-gree in 1964. In 1991, the college became Weber State Univer-sity, appropriately symbolizing its role as one of Utah’s premier public, undergraduate universities.Campus: Covering more than 500 acres nestled along the west flank of the Wasatch Mountains, the Ogden campus offers 37 academic buildings and two residences, as well as the Ott Plan-etarium and the Val A. Brown Center for the Performing Arts.Student Life: Students choose from more than 100 student clubs and organizations, including eight fraternities and sorori-ties, the student newspaper and the campus radio station. A lot of the fun happens at the Dee Events Center. But a lot of the fun also happens off campus—skiing and rock climbing on nearby mountains and rafting on nearby rivers.Athletics: WSU’s 16 intercollegiate programs compete at the NCAA Division I level. In addition, we offer more than 14 club sports and several intramural competitions throughout the year.Stewart Library: The collection includes 479,225 bound vol-umes and 192,782 electronic resources; the library also offers remote access to students.

The beautiful Dee Events Center is a build-ing of many uses, but its primary function, and the number one reason for its construc-tion, was to house the Weber State Universi-ty basketball program.

Weber State men’s basketball teams have won 19 Big Sky Conference titles, and rep-resented the school and Conference in the NCAA Championships on 16 occasions. The WSU women’s program has won the Big Sky Conference title twice, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2002 and 2003.

The Dee Events Center itself has been on national display, hosting the annual NCAA Tournament on four different occasions: The 1979-80 First and Second Rounds, in 1982-83 it served as the West Regional Final Site with North Carolina State defeating Virginia, 62-61, to advance and eventually win the NCAA Final Four, and in 1985-86 the Dee Events Center was once again the site of the First and Second Rounds. Recently, in 1993-94, The Dee Center was one of two sites in the western United States to host an NCAA First and Second Round Sub-Regional.

The $11.3 million dollar building represents the combined efforts and cooperation of stu-dents, university and community member for the development of a functional events facil-

ity for the greater Ogden and Weber County area.

In addition to those funds provided through student fees and revenue bonds, more than $5 million dollars was raised from private sources in a variety of memorialization pro-grams. The highlight of the fund drive was the contribution of more than $2 million dollars from the Lawrence T. Dee and Don-nell B. Stewart families.

Ground breaking ceremonies on the for-ty-three acre site were conducted on March 21, 1975. Dedication ceremonies were held on November 1, 1977, a little more than two and half years after construction was start-ed. The first scheduled event in the facility was a men’s basketball game on November 29, 1977, in which Weber State defeated Long Beach State, 99-96 in overtime.

The Dee Events Center can accommo-date more than 11,000 spectators in chair-backed seats, half of which are cushioned, and accented in red to compliment the WSU school colors of royal purple and white. In the summer of 2010, a brand-new jum-botron was installed, along with a new elec-tronic scorer’s table.

Twenty portals permit rapid entry or exit to

the arena from the concourse, which com-pletely surrounds the building. Restrooms, concessions stands and offices are located around the concourse, as well as display cas-es featuring all aspects of WSU Athletics. A ground level entry, is available for a variety of special occasions.

A spacious parking lot completely surround the building with over 3,000 parking stalls. There are five different exits, from the lot of 46th street on the south, Harrison Blvd. on the west and Country Hills Drive on the north.

An electronic message board was construct-ed west of the facility, above the Harrison Blvd. entrance, and was put into use in De-cember of 1979. Construction of the mar-quees was assisted through a donation of funds provided by the Edith Dee Mac Green Charitable Foundation. In past years, the message board was re-designed with new updated graphic capabilities.

In the summer of 2014, a new digital mes-sage display ring was installed at the top of the Dee Events Center. The Daktronics mes-sage ring will be used for fan engagement promotions as well as corporate partner advertisements. The ring was donated to Weber State by the Utah Jazz, Energy Soul-tuions Arena and the Larry H. Miller family.
