Triton College

Art Kraft TournamentArt Kraft is credited with putting the Triton College wrestling program on the map. Kraft coached the Trojans from 1967-85,and, during that span, he captured nine state crowns, coached 44 All-Americans, nine two-time All-Americans and 14 NationalChampions.Under Kraft’s leadership, Triton was crowned the National Champion in 1977, 1983 and 1984. In those same years, he was votedas the NJCAA Coach of the Year. In addition, the Trojans finished a respectable second in the country in 1978 and 1985. Overall,Kraft’s teams were ranked in the top 10—nationally—11 times.Besides his ability to coach, Kraft also was a gifted wrestler. After taking fifth place at the NCAA Finals as a junior, Kraft won itall the following year. That same season, the 157-pounder from Northwestern University also was the recipient of the Big TenConference Medal of Honor for his combined excellence in academics and athletics. On Dec. 13, Triton College will pay tribute to the former coach, who passed away on Nov. 29, 1985, by hosting the 25th annual

Art Kraft Tournament. This has become one of the most prestigious events in the country. It has attracted teams and individuals from Wisconsin,Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania and, of course, Illinois. This year’s cast looks to be even more impressive. There are several returning All-Americans and more than 110 wrestlers slated to compete.
