These will ad(ersel) a*ect agriculture+ in particular rice production in a nu'ber of Asiancountries. To de(elop adaptation 'easures for drought disaster pre(ention and assuring water andfood securit)+ an anal)sis co'bining historical database and prediction of future cli'ate+ togetherwith an ad(anced h)drological 'odel and rice production 'odel is needed. This project builds upon the achie(e'ents of Asian ,ater C)cle -nitiati(e A,C-/ cli'ate change assess'ent acti(ities+e0pands these b) incorporating the rice production 'odel and intends co'prehensi(e assess'entof drought and water securit) for agriculture in se(eral basins in Asia#Paci1c.

About 7& of &>= 'illion ha har(ested rice is har(ested in 4outheast Asia where technologicalad(ances for irrigated rice had lead to the increase of rice production to about &.> tonHhaand rice consu'ption to about &" kg per )ear per capita in !!" AJ4TAT+ !&/.-rrigated rice 4outheast Yet+ weather and cli'ate are still the 'ain factor in deter'ining riceproducti(it)+ and its i'pact is not e(enl) distributed across regions in Asia. Cli'ate change'ight alter the planting and har(esting period+ water a(ailabilit) and water usage rates+and also other plant ph)siological functions such as photos)nthesis rate and bio'assproduction. Therefore+ stud) of the possible e*ects of cli'ate change on rice productionneeds a co'bination of ad(ance h)drological 'odel and rice production 'odel+ as will beapplied in this project.
