TASK DESCRIPTION:

Select an issue from one of the documentaries you have studied in class and write an essay on the following question:

How does the composer of the documentary explore the main issue and present his point of view to the audience?

You may plan your essay before the due date and bring in the dot-point plan on 1 A4 page for reference. Your plan must be handed in with your essay.

METHODOLOGY:

Task Completed1 View and study documentaries in class, then choose 1 to write

3 Learn how to structure an essay and write a WHY paragraph. Practise at home.

4 Plan your essay in point form, including an introduction, a series of WHY paragraphs & a conclusion.

5 Show your teacher your plans and ask for feedback/ advice.

6 On the day, bring your completed planning sheet, this sheet, and a pen.

Length should be a minimum of 1 A4 page (4 paragraphs).

You must include an introduction, at least TWO expanded arguments (WHY paragraph structure) which include specific examples from the documentary you have chosen, and a conclusion.

You will be marked on your ability to:

construct an essay in the correct form (using WHY paragraphs) identify documentary techniques and comment on their effectiveness and how

they convey the composer’s point of view on a particular issue demonstrate an understanding of the chosen issue use and control language, eg. Sentence structure, vocabulary, spelling,

punctuation, paragraphing.

Marking Guideline

CRITERIA MARKS Demonstrates a perceptive understanding of the issue involved in the

documentary. Demonstrates a perceptive understanding of how the composer uses filmic

& documentary techniques to portray his point of view on the issue. Composes a sophisticated, sustained essay using language techniques

appropriate to audience, form & purpose.
