PRAIRIE CITY, Calif. – Round one of the 2013 WKA West Super Series was hosted by All Star Karting, who welcomed back all returning competitors as

well as some fresh new faces! As the start of the season kicked off on St. Patrick’s Day, 107 drivers eagerly made their way up to the grid with helmet in hand and thrill in their eyes; race day was finally upon everyone and there could not have been a single request for better weather!

Clone Sr.

This class broke records last season with their entry numbers and it doesn’t look like they have any plans to disappoint this year either, having started the 2013 series with 29 drivers and at the top of your leader-

boards throughout the day was that of Jess Peter-son who set pole for Qualifying with a 49.695!!

Peterson may be a new name to the 2013 WKA

West Super Series driver roster but he has more than a few wins under his belt, and Luis Tyrell and Geoff Shaw worked hard to catch him all day! Tyrell just shy of five tenths off Peterson’s time, and Shaw just one tenth behind Tyrell!! Peterson kept a cushion between himself and the rest of the pack, leaving Shaw, Tyrell and Chris Scribner to battle it out behind him and after moving past Tyrell and Shaw it looked like Scribner was getting comfortable in 2nd position!! Shaw was searching for a way in and alongside Scribner, dove into turn three 2 wide and shoved his way back into his 2nd spot where he remained into the Main Event! RJ Kahler, Jonathon Leach and Nick Grossi also stepped it up for the final race of the day, with Brian Hill who climbed from his 12th start and through the three, taking the 3rd finishing position! CRG driver Harrison Mills, as well as Blake Murdock fought to stay in the top crowd but couldn’t quite get by. Peterson, Shaw and Hill would take the checkered finish

and the first three spots but luck was not on their side, being declared a DQ in tech which sent Scribner, Chad Nascimento and Grossi to the victor spots for the Clone Sr Class. Great job to all!! Can’t wait to see what is to come for the season!!

Clone Sumo

A jump in class size as compared to seasons before were the Clone Sumo drivers who had everyone’s anticipa-tion building to see if this class was next in the “karting boom.” 10 competitors took to the track and Mike Gros-si set the time to beat at 53.656 which left Dave Finkel-stein to follow suit with a 53.979!! Josh Finkelstein, just three tenths off of them and Dave Johnson and Jason Cohick rounded out the top 5! D. Finkelstein and J. Fin-kelstein stayed tight throughout the day and kept the 1st and 2nd spots within their grasp at all times up and into the Main Event where Grossi proceeded to lead the race for the first few laps before he retired from the race. The pot of gold for the day was reclaimed by D. Finkelstein and J. Finkelstein for the top two spots, just ahead of Johnson, Cohick, Gary Filpvla and Dave Burns.

Kid Karts

A fresh group of 5 little but fierce, Kid Kart faces took to the track on Sunday to show their stuff in the season opener!! Wyatt Meyers seemed to have the luck of the Irish Sunday, having set the fast lap at 1:00.869 and taking home the win for the day for the Kid Kart class!!

Seth Huntley kept his Qualifying times close to Meyers but had the 2nd place spot taken over in the Main Event by Ayden Withers!! Ethan Nascimento, whose last name is recognized by the relatives also on track Sunday, did a great job and went home with a 4th place trophy. Isabel-la Jaime rounded out the group and made it known to those boys that they better watch their bumper because she’s on the move!! Great job Kid Karters!!

KPV1

Next in line to have a go at a comeback from last season was our KPV 1 class which attracted 11 drivers and at the top of that list was Roy Fulmer IV who out qualified his group with a time of 47.468, just shy of four tenths ahead of Chase Farley, who was Fulmer’s fierce compet-itor from the 2012 series!!! Wyatt Couch came up one tenth behind Farley, with Clayton Williams just behind him and Matteo Sandoval to make top 5 qualifiers! As the grid for the Main Event of the day was set, it was Fulmer, Couch, Farley and Branden Benedix who made a jump at the top spots! Sandoval and Enrique Jaime were hot on their tails and stayed that way as a sign that they could take the spots from Couch and Benedix if they weren’t careful!! Couch and Benedix however, were on top of their game and made sure that they took the 3rd and 4th tropohies home, right behind Fulmer and Farley in the Main, but this is just the intro to the season and nothing is definite, making this season highly anticipated!!

TaG Sr/ TaG Master/ Sr. Super Sportsman

6 familiar faces were welcomed back to the 2013 WKA West Super Series in a class comprised of TaG Senior, TaG Master and Sr Super Sportsman drivers in what created some great competition Sunday! For the TaG Masters, Paul Hohlbein lit up the leaderboard with a quick lap of 44.662 just a hair ahead of Corey Mitchell! Sr Super Sportsman driver Nick Grossi made his way into top qualifier with a time of 47.121, just ahead of Nick Robertson and TaG Senior driver Wayne Ash who ran a 44.662 for his class! Into the first Heat Session, Robertson retired from the race at 3 laps in, making Grossi the champ for that session and also for the day since neither of the Sr Super Sportsman drivers made their way back onto the track for the Main Event and making the TaG karters alone on the track. After making his way from the back, to the second spot on the grid for the Main Event, Stephan Gaudreau jumped to the first position as the Green Flag flew and he stayed the champ over Hohlbein who had held off Corey Mitchell!! Ash took to the first spot finish for his Senior class, right behind Gaudreau and Hohlbein!!

Spec PRD

What a difference a year made with the entries in Spec PRD class! Do not let the numbers fool you folks, this

class may have had just 9 drivers in Round 1 but those relentless drivers demonstrated Sun-

day that their game faces were on and they were only getting started!! It was standing room only as the Spec PRD field took to the track for their 5 minute Qualify-ing Session and it was Austin Elliott who rose to the top with a 44.014 time, just two tenths ahead of David Vasquez, Shelby Sander, Matt Chase and Harrison Mills who weren’t shy to let Elliott know that they were on the move for a shot at the win!! Battle lines were drawn in the Pre Final Session and Cabot Bigham made his way past Mills and Sander with his line of sight on Chase!! Sander is not going to take that lightly and she pushes back past Bigham in the main, showing him her bumper and was on the move for Chase and Vasquez who are hot on Elliott! Not enough laps in the Main for Vasquez to get close enough and Elliott prevailed with a win over Vasquez with Chase, Sander and Bigham closing the top 5.

KPV2

These 11 KPV 2 drivers set the stage at the close of the 2012 WKA West Super Series for some serious compe-tition and they definitely stepped it up a few notches for the 2013 race season!!

KPV 2 proved to be a greatly anticipated race with Son-ny Cervelli making his comeback after losing steering in WKA Round 2 in Davis last month. Cervelli delivered by qualifying 3rd with a 44.287 just shy of six tenths

Page 9: 2013 WKA Karting Scene - May Issue

off of our poll setter Blake Murdock. Cervelli made his move in Heat 1 and finished 1st with Blake Murdock, Blaine Rocha, Cole Davis and Isaac Martin making up the top 5. In a shocking turn of events, Murdock was sent into the barriers in turn 4 on the second lap, making Cervelli followed by Blaine Rocha, Cole Davis, Michaela LaSpina and Grayson Browne the group to beat. Into the Main, Cervelli puts a huge gap between himself and his competition and setting fast lap for

that class at 44.532. Rocha, Murdock, Davis, and LaSpina all put the pressure on in the Main Event and we can’t wait to see them in the next round of this series!

Jr. 1-2 Cycle/ Clone Jr 1

Some new names appeared on the line up for the Jr 1 2 Cycle/ Clone Jr 1 combined class Sunday as they mixed it up all day with last year’s veterans!

Jake Pipal

may have been the only Clone Jr of the day but he ran with the Sr drivers all day showing that he will not be pushed around and he was here to drive! Keeping to the back of the Sr pack, Jake Pipal threw down a quali-fying time of 52.164 and took all the points for this race and we are all looking forward to seeing him shine at the fourth round in the WKA West Series. Jr 1-2 Cycle drivers are ages 9 – 12, and with a 12 kart field were eager to have their chance at seat time. Matthew Martin made a name for himself qualifying with a 48.853, two tenths over Wyatt Couch and three tenths over Richard Stock. Martin held that lead in the Heat 1 and the Pre Final sessions with Couch and Gino Gigliotti hot on his trail and making sure Martin felt the pressure by stay-ing right on the back of him. The green flag flies in the Main Event and Gigliotti jumps into 1st place for the first few laps only to be passed in turn one by Martin. Matthew Proud did a great job holding his 3rd place spot for a great portion of the race only to succumb to the pressure he was feeling from Wyatt Couch and Richard Stock who followed suit to come into the 4th place finish. Just when we thought Martin was in the clear, Martin comes up to the group of lappers in the distance, looking back to see Gigliotti reeling him in fast and in one smooth move Gigliotti takes 1st place just in time to see the white flag fly! Gigliotti holds off Martin in the finish with Couch, Stock and Proud right behind him.

Formula 80 Masters/80 Senior

Closing out the day were the Formula 80 Senior and Master drivers who came back this year with a bigger group and left the crowd with an appetite for the upcoming 2013 season!!

WKAWest Series

A small field for the shifters showed no short of excite-ment starting the day with the Formula 80 Sr driver Adam Booker qualifying two tenths above Jon Ban and Josh Cole who was DQ’d from Qualifying. Formula 80 Master driver Steve Nagai qualified 44.407 and stayed close to the Sr drivers throughout the day. Heading into the Heat 1, Cole held the top spot for a while but was feeling the heat from Booker and Ban was also closing in hard. Booker takes it down the front stretch and takes the 1st place finish from Cole and following that line was Ban who slides to the inside of Cole with three laps to go and takes the 2nd place finish. Cole attempted to redeem himself in the Pre Final and really put the heat on Booker trying to get by. Booker and Cole get tangled, Cole pulls through but Booker

is left on the sidelines to start 3rd for the Main Event. Booker didn’t go quietly and threw himself

quickly into 2nd in front of Ban and Nagai but still two kart lengths away from catching

Cole. Winding down to the last six laps Cole missed a gear and gave Booker the opportunity needed to regain his 1st place finish and taking himself out of the race.80 Senior 2nd place finish going to Jon Ban and Steve Nagai taking 1st place position and points for the 80 Masters.

Big thanks go out to Sponsor RLV, who provided track-side support all weekend, Track Warrior Photos, Mela-nie Miller Photography, Race Monitor, Bridgestone and Grand Products. JOHNNY JACUMIN MEMORIAL DRAWS 233 ENTRIES AT KERSHAW

The 14th annual WKA VEGA / TS Racing National Road Racing event at Carolina Motorsports Park took place April 5-7 in Kershaw, S.C., named the

Johnny Jacumin Memorial in honor of the man who once promoted the annual Road Racing national at Kershaw.

This year’s event marked the 14th consecutive year WKA has held a Road Race at Kershaw, making CMP currently the longest running venue to host a WKA Road Race in consecutive years.

While the event once drew some 400 to 500-plus entrants, the Kershaw Road Race has hovered around 200 to 250 entries for about the last five years. The good news is this year saw 233 entries fill the Road Race side of the CMP pit area, as about 420 entrants competed on the Manufacturers Cup side. The 233 total was the best turnout at Kershaw since the 2008 version of the event.

Racers found good competition when they hit the challenging 2.2-mile CMP road course. Classes with strong entry counts included Stock Honda and Animal Sprint, which boasted starting fields in the double-digits, while divisions like Yamaha Sportsman, WKA Sprint and Clone all had good showings.

Todd King from K.R.A.A.P Photos was good enough to provide us with a detailed race report from Kershaw

Road Race. Here it is.

The World Karting Association rolled into Kershaw, South Carolina, April 5-7 for a double dip of high-speed kart racing with the VEGA / TS Racing Road Racing Series on the Carolina Motorsports Park 2.2-mile road course and Mazda / Bridgestone Manufactures Cup on the sprint track.

Arriving at the fine CMP facility on Thursday afternoon, it was a windy, rainy, and cold day of travel. Many racers occurred some very inclement weather on getting to Kershaw. Snow was the word for the afternoon, and also for the travelers on Thursday night and Friday morning. The racers and crews that got to the track Thursday, got there pits set up and was off to an evening of warmth and coffee. Carolina Motorsports Park is located about 45 miles north of Columbia, S.C. In the quiet surrounding of Kershaw, S.C., this track has seen its racing format challenged by many racers across the world. The 14-turn high-speed road course is challenging to everyone. As the racers travel past the start / finish line, they are faced with quick turns 1, 2, and 3. A quick short shoot, then turns 4, 5, 6, and 7. Down a short straight into turn 8, which is the fastest corner on the track and one of the fastest on the

Page 14: 2013 WKA Karting Scene - May Issue

14 w o r l d k a r t i n g . c o m

WKA Road Racing national circuit. Down the back shoot, into turns 11, 12, 13, and 14, down the long front straight and across the start finish line.

OK folks, that is a quick lap around this track. Ready, set, let’s start practice. Friday morning practice started off later in the morning due to moisture on the track from the rain overnight. The pits were starting to get full of all kinds of karts. A good drivers meeting welcoming everyone to the third race of the season, setting up the racing standards, and the precautions of what to beware of on the racing surface.

Practice opened up with a limited amount of karts participating in the early morning. The morning sessions saw little participation, but after lunch, business picked up on the track. As the afternoon sessions continued, the kart count increased. With a number of drivers getting prepared for the racing lines, they started pushing their equipment to the edge.

Turns 5 and 6 were trouble spots for several drivers in different classes. No casualties, but lots of

karts off in the sand. Leaving this area of the track, turn 8 was no disappointment to the

karts and the corner worker. Session after session saw numerous karts off the racing surface. If you were lucky, you made it back on the track. If you did not make it, well, the kart was full of sandy mud.

Exiting 14 onto the front straightaway was full of action, too. Many karters were out in the sand and grass here, so this slowed the speeds down the front shoot. Friday was challenging to all karts to find out how fast you can go and to find the right gear to pull you out of the turns. Big situation for the crews. Many crews and drivers stayed after dark to find the right combination to race with on Saturday. Did everyone sleep well? Hope so….

Saturday morning started off on time. Several teams in the evening were dealing with engine changes, due to one issue after another. Two quick practice sessions to get the equipment right. The drivers meeting was on time and nothing was changed on the race start times. The two rounds of practice had no major surprises to the kart racers. Several spins, power failures, no kart crashes. Let’s go racing.

Race 1:Race number one started with 19 karts taking the green flag. The race started about 10:00 a.m. with no problems at all with the track or the karters. Fast time

Hoosier Tire Yamaha Sportsman Lite: Seven karters battled it out to the checker flag. Three karts finished on the lead lap. Matt Michel finished first in the class. Jermie Bolt finished second, 22.022 seconds behind matt. Richard Marz finished third, 24.846 seconds back.

Dart Kart Club 100cc Pipe Heavy: This class had two competitors take the green at the start. Mallory Davis took the checker flag over William Anderson. William was one lap down to Mallory. The first day of racing was really good in all classes. I did notice that several karts were towed in on the rope at the end of every race. Made me wonder if the engines were crisp, drive trans were wrong, or the gearing was incorrect. Only the crews can answer the question. Let’s hope for some better results tomorrow for the

miss-fortune today.

Day one had a total of 121 karts to take the challenge of Carolina Motorsports Park.

Congratulations to everyone. No one was hurt and the red flag stayed put. Great competition on the race surface. Let’s see what Sunday brought WKA road racers.

As the sun rose on Sunday morning, it looked like a great day for racing. After a quick drivers meeting with race director Brandon Taylor, the drivers were ready to get down to business. The day started with two quick rounds of practice. Now it is time for the races of the day. Let’s see how the results were.

Race 1:Race one is set to go off at 10:13 a.m. Ten karts were ready to take the green flag and tackle the challenges ahead. Steven Rougeou set quick time with a speed of 79.069 mph. Let’s look at the class results.

down from Keith. North Carolina’s Brian Butler finished third, many laps down.

Steven was on a lap by himself. Donald Santini finished second one lap down. Third went to Richard White, who was also a lap down.

WKA 125 Shifter Final 2: Two racers started the class. William Evans crossed the finish line first. Nelson Hicks finished second 23.700 behind William.

Race 2:After a one hour quiet time, it was time for race two to start. 22 karts were scheduled to take the green flag. The race started at 12:07 p.m. Jeff Wesell set quick time, with a speed of 72.400 m.p.h.

A physically demanding race course, so everyone do extra training for the middle of May. Good luck to all, in your travels to and from race tracks. Everyone have God speed. Till next time see everyone in Grattan behind the camera lens.

Round two of the 2013 World Karting Association Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series went off April 5-7 at

Kershaw, South Carolina’s Carolina Motorsports Park, where the WKA VEGA / TS Racing Road Racing Series joined the stars of the Man Cup Series to make it the only WKA sprint / enduro doubleheader of the year.

Over 400 entrants filled the pits on the Man Cup side, which was sponsored by Mazda and tagged the Zoom Zoom Nationals for the third straight year, while 233 entrants at the Road Racing’s Johnny Jacumin Memorial made it the best Kershaw Road Race turnout since 2008.

Chicago, Illinois’ David Malukas led all racers with three final victories on the weekend. Malukas, 11, scored wins in Komet Sportsman 1, Cadet Sportsman 1 and Yamaha Sportsman 2. Malukas was the only driver to win three main events on the weekend.

“We had a really good weekend,” David said. “The kart was perfect all weekend and we had a shot to win

all six races. When you can come away with three of six, it means a lot. The competition is very hard and there are many drivers like Zach (Holden), Anthony (Gangi Jr.) Michael (d’Orlando), Brandon (Lemke), Neil (Verhagen) and others who are hard to beat. “I also want to thank everyone who helped. Jason Birdsell, my dad, Wes, Jason’s dad (Mike Birdsell), MRP Birel and HMD Trucking.”

Top Kart racers Scott and Tyler Ferris became one of the few father, son tandems to not only each win main events at a WKA national, but both racers swept their respected divisions. Scott continued his string of success in TaG Masters by winning both main events while Tyler bested a strong field of Yamaha Rookie entrants with wins Saturday and Sunday.

Mike McAndrews and Derek Dignan were the only other double main event winners. McAndrews raced his MRP Birel to a sweep of the Komet Junior mains while Dignan, a senior rookie, rode his Arrow to a sweep of Saturday’s TaG Senior classes with wins in TaG and Parilla.

Here’s a look at each class’s racing at Kershaw.

Malukas opened the weekend with a Saturday win over Brandon Lemke in GT7 Motorsports Komet Sportsman 1. Anthony Gangi Jr. was third, while Austin Schaff and John Paul Southern Jr. finished fourth and fifth. Lemke won the Streeter Super Stands Pole Award with a fast lap of 53.567.

Malukas raced his HMD Trucking Birel entry added a second Saturday win in KoeneUSA.com Cadet Sportsman 1. This time Malukas triumphed over Top Kart racer Zach Holden and Lemke. Gangi was fourth and Southern fifth.

After near misses in the next three Sportsman main events, Malukas closed the Zoom Zoom Nationals

with a dominating win late Sunday afternoon in Comet Kart Sales Yamaha Sportsman 2.

Malukas captured the victory over Michael d’Orlando and Lemke, while Gangi was fourth and Holden rounded out the top five.

In other Sportsman action, d’Orlando won his first-ever WKA Man Cup final in Sunday’s Grand Products / Top Kart Cadet Sportsman 2 contest. The New Yorker, driving a Kosmic, triumphed over Tony Kart racer Giovanni Bromante. Lemke again notched a third-place result on his Merlin with Southern taking fourth and Devin Boutot rounding out the top five. Gangi won the new Sunday version of Komet Sportsman, sponsored by his GT7 Motorsports team. one for his best finish of the weekend. Michael Cruz took fourth and Lemke fifth. Southern won the Pole Award at a 53.641.

The surprise of the weekend had to be Sam Mayer winning MRP / Birel Yamaha Sportsman 1 on his Franklin Motorsports-backed Merlin chassis.

Mayer, who just graduated from the Yamaha Rookie Sportsman division, earned his first full-blown Sportsman feature win in just his second event in the category. Mayer took advantage of contact on the final corners among Malukas, Lemke and Gangi to take the lead and the race win. Lemke was second, Malukas third, Gangi fouth and Holden fifth. Holden won the Streeter Pole Award at a 54.608.

“It was a great race,” 9-year-old Sam said. “I’m very happy to be in position to pick up my first win of 2013. We went from fourth to first in the last turn for the win!”

One of the drivers Mayer battled last year in Yamaha Rookie was Top Kart racer Tyler Ferris, who scored his first Man Cup wins at Kershaw in a sweep of the classes. Ferris won Saturday’s New Jersey Sprint Series Yamaha Rookie Sportsman 1 by a slim margin over Gage Rodgers. Brian Tremper Jr. was third, Griffin Kunz fourth and Madison Campeau fifth. Tyler’s cousin, Connor Ferris, won the Pole Award on his Top Kart with a fast lap of 55.838.

Sunday’s Mike Doty Racing Rookie final saw Ferris complete the weekend sweep over Andrew Castelucci, Mark J. Fineis, Jayden Larson and Maks Kowalski. Gage Rodgers was the Pole Award winner on his Birel at a 56.148.

Tyler’s success was equaled by his father, Scott Ferris, who ensured the duo became what’s believed to be the first-ever father-son tandem to each win two races in a single weekend at a WKA Manufacturers Cup event.

Scott captured wins in both DRT Racing / Margay-sponsored TaG Masters shows on his Top Kart for a clean sweep of the weekend, meaning he won each round of competition (qualify, prefinal and final) both days. North Carolina resident Chuck Tate was second both days, while New York’s Scot Carapellatti took third Saturday and Brian McEvoy third on Sunday.

Derek Dignan surprised many when he won both senior TaG races Saturday. The Arrow pilot opened the day with the win over Garrett Johnston in TSRacing.com TaG Senior 1. Garrett’s twin brother, Jake, took a strong third with Robby Seward fourth and Mike Giessen fifth.

Dignan closed the first day of racing with the win in Grand Products / Top Kart Parilla Senior 1. Dignan scored the victory over Cal Stewart, who was on a Praga chassis. Jacob Donald was third on his Arrow,

Tommy Andersen fourth on a Top Kart and 2012 WKA triple-class champion Mason Chelootz fifth on his Top Kart.

Sunday’s TaG Senior races saw Monster Energy Drink-sponsored Top Kart racer Garrett Johnston score an impressive victory in OTK Kart USA TaG Senior 1. Johnston, in only his second WKA race as a senior driver, won over Giessen, Dignan, Andersen and Florida’s Jonathan Kotyk.

“We started on the pole and got passed by

two karts right off the bat,” Johnston recalled. “I made it back to second and then took the lead on the infield around lap four and had a two-second lead by the checkered flag. On Saturday my brother and I finished second and third and I thought we should have won that also.”

Franklinkart.com Parilla Senior 2 went to veteran Giessen, who rode his Tony Kart to the triumph over Stewart, Donald, G. Johnston and DR Kart racer Jacob Duvall.

West Bend, Wisconsin, MRP Birel racer Mike McAndrews accepted his 2012 WKA national championship laurels Friday night at the year-end awards ceremony, and backed it up with an impressive sweep of Komet Junior.

McAndrews won PCR Komet Junior 1 over Daytona winner Austin McCusker.

Killian Keaveny came home third on a Top Kart, Grant Quinlan fourth

on his Birel and former Birel

racer Gresham Wagner, who’s now on a Kartsport Arrow, was fifth.

On Sunday, McAndrews bested teammate Quinlan for the win in Orlando Kart Center Komet Junior 2. Daytona winner Ryan Raffa was third on his Top Kart, Matt Solarczyk fourth on a Birel and Braden Eves fifth on a PCR.

“Thank you to Tim, Chris and Garry Lobaugh for giving me the great opportunity to drive a Birel, and to all of my other sponsors for great support,” McAndrews commented.

Brandon Jarsocrak swept the Yamaha Junior classes last year at Kershaw, and this year he backed it up with a win in Saturday’s Yamaha Junior 1. Jarsocrak won over McCusker, who finished second in both Junior races on Saturday. Wagner was third, Emerson Reed fourth and Quinlan fifth.

“My teammate Austin McCusker and I pulled away from the rest of the field and battled the last two laps for the win,” Jarsocrak said. “I would like to thank my family and sponsors – Mike Doty Racing, Woltjer

Racing Engines, Haase and Red Line Synthetic Oil – for all their support and continuing to believe in me to make my dream and goals come true.”

Quinlan won the Pole Award in Komet Junior 1 while McAndrews bested the competition in qualifying in Sunday’s contest.

Minnesota’s Killian Keaveny scored his first-ever WKA Man Cup win Sunday in Verde Speed Resources Yamaha Junior 2. Keaveny triumphed over Braden Eves, Raffa, Jarsocrak and Reed in a star-studded top five. Nick Luedeke won the Streeter Pole Award but ran into tough luck in the feature.

“Raffa went to block on the back side of the track and I stayed on the inside and then crossed him over for the win,” Keaveny recalled. “I want to thank Chris and my dad for helping to get the kart tuned right for this weekend. Thanks to all my sponsors – Keaveny Drug, Holt Motors and Grand Products – and to Mike Tetrault.”

Top Kart racer Patrick Olsen and Merlin pilot Darin Marcus split the HYTORC Komet PRO main events. Olsen won over Joel Jens and Daley Pagano in Saturday’s main while Marcus triumphed over Jonathan Kotyk and Darren Brubaker in Sunday’s show. Finishes of fifth and second were good enough to net Kotyk the $300 prize as best average finisher.

Marcus will get $200 for second-best average and Brubaker $100 for third.

Defending Yamaha Senior national champion Dakota Pesek won EFFECIEMME Yamaha Senior 1. Pesek, wheeling his familiar No. 79 Arrow, was the victor over Chase Jones. Derek Hughes was third, Brian Krummel fourth and Brett Schneider fifth.

Krummel raced his Haase to the win in Yamaha Senior 2. BK Speed earned the win over Pesek and Brett Schneider. Jason Foley was fourth and Brubaker fifth.

Top Kart won the most races of any chassis with seven final wins. Birel was second with five wins between Malukas and McAndrews.

Next up for the Manufacturers Cup Series are a couple of stops in the Hoosier State. Round three goes off May 17-19 with the McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at New Castle Motorsports Park before round four – the Top Kart USA Grand Nationals – June 28-30 at JET Karting near South Bend, Indiana.
