There are about 70 million dads across the United States. Experts say that dads are important to kids in many different ways. For example, some dads stay at home full-time with their kids. Dads help kids learn, grow and develop in more healthy ways. How is your dad important to you?     Here are some more reasons why experts say dads are important:    • Kids with involved dads behave better in school.    • Girls who have a good relationship with their dads do better in math.    • Boys whose dads are involved in their lives get better grades and scores on tests.    • Dads help their kids learn to explore and solve problems.    • Dads also help preschoolers become better speakers and readers.

Tell Dad     Write a letter to your dad for Father’s Day. Tell him why he’s important to you. The Mini Page helps you get started. Just cut out the letter on the dotted lines, fill in the blanks, and add some artwork to your letter. Then present it to your dad or another important man in your life on Father’s Day!

Dear __________ ,

Happy Father’s Day! I have been thinking about how important you are to me. For Father’s Day, I want to let you know about some of the great things you do for me and how much you mean to me.

I love when we __________________ together!

It’s so funny when you ____________________ .

My favorite story that you tell me is the one about __________________________ .

When I grow up, I hope I can _________________ as well as you do.

Have a great Father’s Day!

Love, ________________

You’ll need:• 2 large bananas• 4 ripe kiwisWhat to do:1.  Cut bananas into rounds, approximately 10 per banana.2.  Stack rounds on the plate as if the two bananas were lying

there uncut. This forms the “trunks” of the palm trees.3.  Cut each kiwi lengthwise, then lengthwise again, making a

total of 16 crescent shapes.4.  Arrange 8 crescent kiwi shapes on the top of each “trunk” of

stacked banana rounds to create the palm fronds. Serves 2.You will need an adult’s help with this recipe.

Supersport: Miguel CabreraHeight: 6-4 Birthdate: 4-18-83Weight: 240 Hometown: Maracay, Venezuela    There are those special seasons in sports, the kind that are unforgettable. Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers had one last year.    He led the American League in batting average (.330), home runs (44) and RBIs (139) to become the first player to win baseball’s Triple Crown since 1967.

So what does the 2012 American League Most Valuable Player do now? He just keeps slugging. The seven-time All-Star third baseman was batting .385 in late May.    Cabrera does more than hit and field, however. He’s helped countless people through multiple charities. He also remains connected to his roots in Venezuela, where he and his family spend the offseason.    But right now, he’s a tough Tiger in pursuit of another special season.

• Never eat anything bigger than your head.

• Avoid strange dogs.

• The Internet doesn’t always, or even most of the time, tell the truth.

• When in doubt, wear a helmet.

• Remember that your daddy loves you, every day, your whole life, no matter what.

• Get homework out of the way first.

• When visiting other people’s homes, bring snacks.

• If you’re going to drink it, most of the time it should just be water.

• Hold hands with your sister or brother sometimes, even if you don’t want to.

• If you don’t feel good about something, tell someone.
