ANNUAL MEETING The Sports Museum of Dutchess

County will be holding its

Annual Meeting on Sunday

December 1, 2013, at Aloy’s

Restaurant in Poughkeepsie at

1:00 PM. Year End Reports will

be read at the meeting.

Nominations & elections of

Board Members will be held. All

members are invited.

Refreshments will be served.

BOWLING EVENTS

The Sports Museum will again be hosting a series

of bowling events at local establishments. The first event

is scheduled at the Fishkill Bowl, followed by an event at

the Holiday Bowl. Additional events are scheduled for

the Mardi Bob Lanes, and Southern Dutchess Lanes.

CROSS COUNTRY RUN The Sports Museum will be

sponsoring a 5K Run and a 1- mile

kids run on Saturday September 22 at 9:00

a.m. at Carnwath Farms off Wheeler Hill

DAILY LOTTO

That time of the year again. The Sports Museum will be holding its Annual November Lotto based on the

New York daily evening drawing. Drawings will be held every day during the month of November.

Enclosed with this newsletter are lottery tickets. Tickets are priced at $10.00 per ticket. Please help support

the Museum by mailing your tickets, including your favorite three digit numbers and a check payable to the

This is one of our major fundraisers for the year and the Museum needs and depends on the support

of its membership and friends to maintain the museum and its many artifacts. Additional tickets may be

2013 INDUCTEE DINNER

The 2013 inductee selection committee meeting was held on Sunday June 2nd,

and

the following individuals were selected for Induction:

BASEBALL/FAMILY

DAY

The Sports Museum Family Day was held

on July 13th

. Unfortunately we had a

disappointing attendance. This yearly

event is held free of cost to the general

public. A lot of time and effort goes into

the planning and holding this event. We

wish to thank all volunteers who showed

up to donate their time. If this is not

something that the public is interested in

attending, it may have to fall by the

wayside. The Museum hosts many sports

artifacts and is open to the public most of

the year. We would like to invite anyone

interested in the history of Dutchess

County Sports to stop in and check out the

Museum.

CLOSEST to PIN CONTESTS Our first fund raiser was held on June 1

st at Casperkill Golf Course. It was a clear sunny day

and short of golfers. There were 22 participants. The winner was Joe Hernandez who in a very generous gesture

donated his share of the prize money back to the Museum. Our second fund-raiser was held on a day of blue sky,

white clouds and a perfect temperature at McCann Golf Course on June 15th

,. We had 44 participants. The winner

was Ed Deiser of Katonah, NY who was not having a good morning but said that he would join the rest of his

foursome. One stroke later, after hitting the flag pole, Ed measured in at 23 inches, which was the closest to the pin

since the inception of the fund raiser. Ed donated $25 of his winnings back to the Museum. The third fundraiser was

held at College Hill on August 23,

“Thank you” to all volunteers for their support at the courses.

Hudson Valley Racing Hall of Fame Inductees

On June 9, 2013 the Sports Museum of Dutchess County Racing

committee, at the Annual Race Car Exhibit, inducted twenty four

people, who have been involved in automobile racing, into the

Hudson Valley Historic Racing Hall of Fame. These men were

inducted for what they accomplished in the sport of auto racing.

They were:

Anthony Centorani, (Who raced under the name of Chuck Anthony);

Vince Becker; Doug Benjamin; Billy Boo; Robert “Doc” Burgess;

Rob Dyson; Dick Hanson; Pat Hanaberry; DD Harris; Bud Hitsman;

Joe Kenny; Joe Lawrence; Jocko Maggiacomo; Bill Martin; Ron

Morehead, Sr.; Fred Murphy; Cliff Parent; Rich Ricci; Jim Reed; Ed

Ryan; John Satterfield; Larry Shurter; Walt Shubert; and Ron Van

Etten.

The event was attended by 20 racing cars from the 50’s to cars that

had raced the night before.
