With 10 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles ofquality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics theMetro Atlantic Athletic Conference is in its 32nd year of competitionduring the 2012-2013 academic year

The MAAC was founded in 1980 by six charter members the USMilitary Academy Fairfield University Fordham University Iona Col-lege Manhattan College and Saint Peterrsquos College Competition fol-lowed one year later in the fall of 1981 with members competing inthe sports of menrsquos cross country and menrsquos soccer On January 21982 Army traveled to Iona for the first MAAC menrsquos basketballgame and the MAAC story had begun

Current Conference members include Canisius College FairfieldUniversity Iona College Loyola University Maryland Manhattan Col-lege Marist College Niagara University Rider University SaintPeterrsquos University and Siena College In addition associate mem-bers include the University of Detroit Mercy Jacksonville Universityand Virginia Military Institute in menrsquos lacrosse St Francis (NY)College Villanova University VMI and Wagner College are all asso-ciate members of the MAAC Womenrsquos Water Polo League DrakeUniversity Jacksonville University Robert Morris University and Sa-cred Heart University compete in womenrsquos rowing while the Univer-sity at Albany Boston University and the University of Hartford begancompetition in womenrsquos golf in the spring of 2010 Butler Universitybecame an associate member of womenrsquos golf in the summer of2012 In December 2012 Monmouth University and Quinnipiac Uni-versity accepted the MAACrsquos invitation to become a Conferencemember beginning July 1 2013 for the 2013-14 academic year TheMAAC will support 24 sports and championships during the 2012-2013 academic year The MAAC has automatic qualification to 15NCAA Championships with the MAAC being eligible for womenrsquosrowing for the first time in the spring of 2013

The MAAC Basketball Championships returns to Springfieldrsquos Mass-Mutual Center for the 2013 and 2014 championships which will beco-hosted by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Byhaving an excellent working relationship with various facilities theMAAC has been able to attract a number of NCAA Championshipevents Most recently the MAAC and Rider hosted the 2012 NCAARowing Championships at Lake Mercer in West Windsor New Jer-sey The MAAC and Rider also co-hosted the 2011 NCAA Division I

Wrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadel-phia The MAAC Canisius College and Niagara University suc-cessfully hosted the 2010 NCAA Division I Menrsquos BasketballChampionship First and Second Rounds at the HSBC Arena in Buf-falo New York All three parties hosted the event in 2004 and2007 and will host again in 2014 The MAAC and Rider Universityco-hosted the 2009 NCAA Division I Womenrsquos Basketball Champi-onship Regional at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton NJ afterrecording the third highest attendance figure for the womenrsquos cham-pionship with the First and Second Rounds in 2006 The MAACand Fairfield worked together to co-host the 2013 NCAA Division IWomenrsquos Basketball Championship Regional at Webster BankArena in Bridgeport

MAAC Associate Sports

In June of 1995 the MAAC continued to develop opportunities forstudent-athletes as the conference announced the formation of theMAAC Mens and Womens Lacrosse Leagues The mens leaguebegan competition in the spring of 1996 while the womens leaguecommenced in the spring of 1997 The mens league consists offour MAAC schools ndash Canisius Manhattan Marist and Siena - andthree associate members - Detroit Jacksonville and Virginia MilitaryInstitute The womens league consists of MAAC institutions Cani-sius Fairfield Iona Manhattan Marist Niagara and Siena

In 2002 the MAAC added the MAAC Womens Water Polo LeagueThe league is currently made up of three MAAC schools ndash IonaMarist and Siena ndash as well as four associate members St Francis(NY) Villanova VMI and Wagner

Sacred Heart started participating in MAAC Womens Rowing in thespring of 2008 Drake University joined the league for the 2010MAAC Championship while Robert Morris began competition in thespring of 2011

In the summer of 2009 the MAAC added three associate members- Albany Boston University and Hartford - to womens golf with theprograms starting competition against MAAC members Fairfield Ni-agara and Siena in 2009-2010 Butler became an associate mem-ber in the summer of 2012 beginning competition for the 2012-13season

Womenrsquos Basketball is one of the 24 sports in which theMAAC crowns a champion

The MAAC combines traditional members with associate members inmenrsquos lacrosse womenrsquos water polo womenrsquos golf and womenrsquos row-ing

Academics and Athletics

The MAAC prides itself on the accomplishments of its student-ath-letes in the classroom as well as on the field Mary Beth Riley a1991 graduate of Canisius was the first recipient of the NCAAWoman of the Year Award In the fall of 1998 Erin Whalen a mem-ber of the Iona womenrsquos rowing team was awarded one of the na-tionrsquos 32 Rhodes Scholarships for academic achievement and civicleadership Jose Vargas a Loyola student was also awarded aRhodes Scholarship in 1999

First-class facilities are the rule with MAAC schools as teams regu-larly play in top-notch arenas such as Madison Square Garden theMassMutual Center the IZOD Center First Niagara Center TimesUnion Center the Webster Bank Arena and the Sun National BankCenter The other MAAC championships boast their share of out-standing locales as well such as the Reverend Harold Ridley SJAthletic Complex at Loyola where the menrsquos soccer championshipwill be contested in the fall of 2012 and Waterfront Park in TrentonNew Jersey home of the 2013 MAAC Baseball Championship Thisyear the MAAC will take the menrsquos and womenrsquos cross countrychampionships to Orlando Florida at the ESPN Wide World ofSports Complex The 2013 MAAC Menrsquos and Womenrsquos Golf Cham-pionships will be held at Disneyrsquos Palm Golf Course

In the past several years a number of the MAAC schools have alsoenjoyed success in NCAA Championships MAAC schools havemade a total of 80 NIT appearances and 50 NCAA appearancesFor the first time in 16 years the MAAC had two teams advance tothe NCAA Division I Menrsquos Basketball Championship with Loyolaearning the leaguersquos automatic bid and Iona garnering an at-largebid In March 2012 Fairfield and Manhattan participated in the Col-legeInsidercom Postseason Tournament with the Stags advancingto the semifinals The Manhattan women participated in theWomenrsquos Basketball Invitational reaching the semifinal round of thetournament for the second consecutive season In 2007 the Maristwomenrsquos basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling tothe eventual National Champion the University of Tennessee TheRed Foxes have recorded five NCAA wins since their runs in 2007In the fall of 2011 the Iona mens cross country team finished tied for

The MAAC has also been a leader in the forefront of technologyexpanding the notoriety of the league into cyberspace In 2007 theleague reached an agreement with JumpTV Inc now NeuLionInc to design and host the MAAC web page MAACSportscomhas been a great success providing fans with up-to-date contestresults live and on-demand video and an online merchandisestore The MAAC in conjunction with NeuLion launched aniPhone app in February 2011 followed by Android and iPad appsthat were released during the 2011-12 academic yearIn September 2011 the conference announced the launch ofMAACTV the leagues first broadband network Six schools ndash Can-isius Iona Manhattan Marist Rider and Saint Peters ndash are cur-rently part of the network which broadcast over 400 live events in2011-12

Richard J Ensor was named thethird Commissioner of the Metro At-lantic Athletic Conference in August1988 In the 24 years since his ap-pointment Ensor has provided lead-ership to the conference in a periodof transition and growth in intercolle-giate athletics and the MAAC Duringhis tenure the MAAC has secured astable membership base expandedthe number of championships con-ducted and developed an extensivemarketing program cemented withbroadcast agreements with ESPN aweb paged hosted by NeuLion andpartner championship venues suchas the MassMutual Center NaismithMemorial Basketball Hall of Fameand Disney Sports Attractions Dur-ing a time of tumultuous realignment

within NCAA Division I conferences the MAAC remains a homogenousassociation of private institutions of similar size and funding which arecommitted to student-athlete excellence both on the playing fields and inthe classroom

Under Ensorrsquos direction the MAAC has focused efforts toshowcase its member institutions in its annual menrsquos and womenrsquos bas-ketball tournament Since 1990 with the support of the MAAC Council ofPresidents and the leaguersquos athletic administrators and coaches theMAAC has held its premier event in state of the art playing facilities suchas the Times Union Center in Albany NY the Frist Niagara Center inBuffalo NY the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia PA and the WebsterBank Arena in Bridgeport CT The 2013 amp 2014 championships will behosted at the MassMutual Center in S Springfield MA

Ensor has also been instrumental in the expansion of MAACsports offerings In 1992 the MAAC added womenrsquos soccer in 1996menrsquos lacrosse and in 1997 womenrsquos lacrosse menrsquos and womenrsquos in-door track and rowing In 1998 the MAAC added outdoor track and fieldand womenrsquos golf and in 2002-03 it added womenrsquos water polo Theleague currently sponsors 24 sports and is awarded automatic or play-inbids to 14 NCAA championships [baseball softball tennis (mampw) menrsquosgolf basketball (mampw) outdoor track (mampw) lacrosse (mampw) rowing(w) soccer (mampw) water polo (w) and volleyball (w)] Additionally MAACmenrsquos and womenrsquos cross country have access to the NCAA champi-onship through a regional qualifier race Over half the MAAC sponsoredsports now have direct access to NCAA Championships for the first timein the history of the conference (Up from 13 sports and two automaticbids in 1988)

To award its fans arena partners and membership the MAACduring Ensorrsquos tenure has been very aggressive in seeking out opportu-nities to host NCAA Championships in various sports With memberschools it has served as a co-host of the 1995 2000 2004 2007 and2010 NCAAMenrsquos Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds atthe Times Union Center and the HSBC Arena (again the host for the2014 2nd amp 3rd rounds) respectively and the 2003 NCAAMenrsquos Bas-ketball East Regional at the Albany NY arena and the 2003 NCAAMenrsquos Frozen Four at the Buffalo venue Additionally the MAAC co-hosted the 1998 2000 2003 2004 amp 2006 NCAA Northeast CrossCountry Regional at Van Cortlandt Park - Bronx NY In 2002 the MAACwas a co-host of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship at theTimes Union Center and it repeated as host in 2011 at the Wells FargoCenter in Philadelphia PA All the NCAAmenrsquos championships theMAAC has hosted with its arena partners have been sellouts TheMAAC co-hosted the NCAAWomenrsquos Basketball Tournament First andSecond Rounds at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton NJ in 2006 andthen hosted the Trenton Regional at the same site in 2009 In 2013 theMAAC will host the regional again this time at the Webster Bank Arenain Bridgeport CT

Ensor who spearheads the leaguersquos marketing efforts hassought to tie the conferencersquos strong academic image into its marketingcampaign The MAAC has carved a well-earned niche as an athleticconference that balances quality academics and athletics The market-ing efforts have been timely as it has highlighted the conferencersquos con-tinued rise in the basketball standings Ensor has aggressively pushedthe MAAC into internet-based marketing through its award winning webpage wwwmaacsportscom and other technology driven initiativessuch as the leaguersquos MAACTV

Community relations based programs have also been centralto the MAACrsquos enhanced outreach marketing In 2013 the MAAC an-nounced a partnership with the Jimmy Fund built around the basketballchampionships in Springfield MA The Jimmy Fund is operated by theDana-Farber Cancer Institute which is among the leading cancer re-search and care centers in the United States In 2010 the MAAC an-nounced a multi-year agreement with ESPN which includes 40 plusbroadcasts annually on ESPN2 ESPNU and ESPN3 including menrsquos

and womenrsquos basketball and championships from ESPNrsquos WideWorld of Sports Complex in Orlando

In 1998 the MAAC under Ensorrsquos direction began a newmarketing and championship initiative when it entered into a multi-year agreement with Disney Sports Attractions to host on a rotatingbasis at the Orlando FL facility the conferencersquos volleyball menrsquossoccer menrsquos amp womenrsquos cross country and womenrsquos soccerchampionships In 2000 the partnership was extended to the con-ferencersquos annual menrsquos and womenrsquos golf championship at Disneyon its Magnolia and Palm courses In 2006 the MAAC the partner-ship with Disney when it entered into a multi-year hosting agree-ment with ESPN to sponsor the Old Spice Menrsquos Basketball Classicin Orlando

A 1975 graduate of Saint Peterrsquos University Ensor wasnamed Assistant Director of the Recreation Life Center at his almamater shortly after graduation a position he held until 1978 Hewas then named Assistant Athletic Director at St Louis Universitybefore returning to Saint Peterrsquos a year later This time Ensor heldthe position of Sports Information Director with a number of publi-cations during his three-year tenure earning honors from the Col-lege Sports Information Directors of America In 1982 Ensordecided to return to school and earned his Masterrsquos degree insports management with honors from the University of Massachu-setts Amherst An attorney Ensor graduated from Seton Hall Uni-versityrsquos School of Law in 1987 and was admitted to the NewJersey Bar in June of that year Ensor was named Assistant Ath-letic Director of Marketing and Promotions at Seton Hall in 1985before returning to Massachusetts as an Assistant Professor in theSport Management Department where his concentration was onsports marketing and sports law

Ensor is a member of many professional associations in-cluding the American Bar Association In addition Ensor is a mem-ber of sport-related associations such as the Sports LawyersAssociation the New Jersey Bar Association Sports Law Commit-tee the American Bar Association Forum on the Entertainmentand Sports Industries NACDA and the CAANJ His communitywork includes current stints as a board member of the MercerCounty Sports amp Entertainment Commission and the MonsignorDonovan High School Leadership Advisory Committee He haspublished in the areas of Sport Law and Sport Marketing In 1994Ensor served as chair of the New Jersey Bar Association SportLaw Committee

A member of the Collegiate Commissionerrsquos Association(CCA) Ensor in 2007 began a two-year elected term as Presidentof the association Ensor has been very involved in NCAA gover-nance since 1999 when he began a four-year term on the NCAADivision I Management Council a segment of the new nationalgoverning system for the intercollegiate sports association He cur-rently chairs the Councilrsquos Governance subcommittee Ensor hadpreviously served on the old NCAA Council and in January 1996he served as Chair of the Division I-AA NCAA ConventionBusinessSession In 2013 he began a term on the NCAAAdministrationCabinet where he serves on the AdCom He previously served onthe Division I Championships Cabinet where he chaired the ex-empted events subcommittee Ensor has also served on the NCAADivision IAA Governance Committee and on NCAA committeesdealing with playing season exemptions athletic certification andthe regulatory culture of the NCAA governance restructuring andantitrust issues Ensor was appointed in 1996 and 2003 to a one-year terms as the chair of the IAA commissioners From 1999-2003he was served as SecretaryTreasurer of the Ice Hockey CollegiateCommissioners Association

In 2007 Ensor extended his involvement with national is-sues when he was appointed to a 5-year term on the NCAA Divi-sion I Womenrsquos Basketball Committee The committee is chargedwith annually selecting teams seeding bracketing and operatingthe NCAAWomenrsquos Basketball Championship including the FinalFour

In 2001 Ensor was named by the American FootballFoundation as its Commissioner of the Year and in 1999 he waspresented a Distinguished Service Award from the MetropolitanBasketball Writers and in 1998 was inducted into the Saint PeterrsquosUniversity Hall of Fame He also is a member of the MonsignorDonovan HS Hall of Fame In 1996 the University of Massachu-setts Amherst Sport Management Program named Ensor as therecipient of the VanderZwaag Distinguished Alumnus Award In1989 the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities namedEnsor as one of the ldquoLeaders of Servicerdquo in its Bicentennial Seriespublication In 1993 Ensor was honored by NACWA as a ldquoGoodGuyrdquo for his efforts in regards to gender equity

The MAAC prides itself on the accomplishments of its student-ath-letes in the classroom as well as on the field Mary Beth Riley a1991 graduate of Canisius was the first recipient of the NCAAWoman of the Year Award In the fall of 1998 Erin Whalen a mem-ber of the Iona womenrsquos rowing team was awarded one of the na-tionrsquos 32 Rhodes Scholarships for academic achievement and civicleadership Jose Vargas a Loyola student was also awarded aRhodes Scholarship in 1999

First-class facilities are the rule with MAAC schools as teams regu-larly play in top-notch arenas such as Madison Square Garden theMassMutual Center the IZOD Center First Niagara Center TimesUnion Center the Webster Bank Arena and the Sun National BankCenter The other MAAC championships boast their share of out-standing locales as well such as the Reverend Harold Ridley SJAthletic Complex at Loyola where the menrsquos soccer championshipwill be contested in the fall of 2012 and Waterfront Park in TrentonNew Jersey home of the 2013 MAAC Baseball Championship Thisyear the MAAC will take the menrsquos and womenrsquos cross countrychampionships to Orlando Florida at the ESPN Wide World ofSports Complex The 2013 MAAC Menrsquos and Womenrsquos Golf Cham-pionships will be held at Disneyrsquos Palm Golf Course

Community relations based programs have also been centralto the MAACrsquos enhanced outreach marketing In 2013 the MAAC an-nounced a partnership with the Jimmy Fund built around the basketballchampionships in Springfield MA The Jimmy Fund is operated by theDana-Farber Cancer Institute which is among the leading cancer re-search and care centers in the United States In 2010 the MAAC an-nounced a multi-year agreement with ESPN which includes 40 plusbroadcasts annually on ESPN2 ESPNU and ESPN3 including menrsquos

and womenrsquos basketball and championships from ESPNrsquos WideWorld of Sports Complex in Orlando

In 1998 the MAAC under Ensorrsquos direction began a newmarketing and championship initiative when it entered into a multi-year agreement with Disney Sports Attractions to host on a rotatingbasis at the Orlando FL facility the conferencersquos volleyball menrsquossoccer menrsquos amp womenrsquos cross country and womenrsquos soccerchampionships In 2000 the partnership was extended to the con-ferencersquos annual menrsquos and womenrsquos golf championship at Disneyon its Magnolia and Palm courses In 2006 the MAAC the partner-ship with Disney when it entered into a multi-year hosting agree-ment with ESPN to sponsor the Old Spice Menrsquos Basketball Classicin Orlando

A 1975 graduate of Saint Peterrsquos University Ensor wasnamed Assistant Director of the Recreation Life Center at his almamater shortly after graduation a position he held until 1978 Hewas then named Assistant Athletic Director at St Louis Universitybefore returning to Saint Peterrsquos a year later This time Ensor heldthe position of Sports Information Director with a number of publi-cations during his three-year tenure earning honors from the Col-lege Sports Information Directors of America In 1982 Ensordecided to return to school and earned his Masterrsquos degree insports management with honors from the University of Massachu-setts Amherst An attorney Ensor graduated from Seton Hall Uni-versityrsquos School of Law in 1987 and was admitted to the NewJersey Bar in June of that year Ensor was named Assistant Ath-letic Director of Marketing and Promotions at Seton Hall in 1985before returning to Massachusetts as an Assistant Professor in theSport Management Department where his concentration was onsports marketing and sports law

Ensor is a member of many professional associations in-cluding the American Bar Association In addition Ensor is a mem-ber of sport-related associations such as the Sports LawyersAssociation the New Jersey Bar Association Sports Law Commit-tee the American Bar Association Forum on the Entertainmentand Sports Industries NACDA and the CAANJ His communitywork includes current stints as a board member of the MercerCounty Sports amp Entertainment Commission and the MonsignorDonovan High School Leadership Advisory Committee He haspublished in the areas of Sport Law and Sport Marketing In 1994Ensor served as chair of the New Jersey Bar Association SportLaw Committee

A member of the Collegiate Commissionerrsquos Association(CCA) Ensor in 2007 began a two-year elected term as Presidentof the association Ensor has been very involved in NCAA gover-nance since 1999 when he began a four-year term on the NCAADivision I Management Council a segment of the new nationalgoverning system for the intercollegiate sports association He cur-rently chairs the Councilrsquos Governance subcommittee Ensor hadpreviously served on the old NCAA Council and in January 1996he served as Chair of the Division I-AA NCAA ConventionBusinessSession In 2013 he began a term on the NCAAAdministrationCabinet where he serves on the AdCom He previously served onthe Division I Championships Cabinet where he chaired the ex-empted events subcommittee Ensor has also served on the NCAADivision IAA Governance Committee and on NCAA committeesdealing with playing season exemptions athletic certification andthe regulatory culture of the NCAA governance restructuring andantitrust issues Ensor was appointed in 1996 and 2003 to a one-year terms as the chair of the IAA commissioners From 1999-2003he was served as SecretaryTreasurer of the Ice Hockey CollegiateCommissioners Association

In 2007 Ensor extended his involvement with national is-sues when he was appointed to a 5-year term on the NCAA Divi-sion I Womenrsquos Basketball Committee The committee is chargedwith annually selecting teams seeding bracketing and operatingthe NCAAWomenrsquos Basketball Championship including the FinalFour

In 2001 Ensor was named by the American FootballFoundation as its Commissioner of the Year and in 1999 he waspresented a Distinguished Service Award from the MetropolitanBasketball Writers and in 1998 was inducted into the Saint PeterrsquosUniversity Hall of Fame He also is a member of the MonsignorDonovan HS Hall of Fame In 1996 the University of Massachu-setts Amherst Sport Management Program named Ensor as therecipient of the VanderZwaag Distinguished Alumnus Award In1989 the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities namedEnsor as one of the ldquoLeaders of Servicerdquo in its Bicentennial Seriespublication In 1993 Ensor was honored by NACWA as a ldquoGoodGuyrdquo for his efforts in regards to gender equity

A 1975 graduate of Saint Peterrsquos University Ensor wasnamed Assistant Director of the Recreation Life Center at his almamater shortly after graduation a position he held until 1978 Hewas then named Assistant Athletic Director at St Louis Universitybefore returning to Saint Peterrsquos a year later This time Ensor heldthe position of Sports Information Director with a number of publi-cations during his three-year tenure earning honors from the Col-lege Sports Information Directors of America In 1982 Ensordecided to return to school and earned his Masterrsquos degree insports management with honors from the University of Massachu-setts Amherst An attorney Ensor graduated from Seton Hall Uni-versityrsquos School of Law in 1987 and was admitted to the NewJersey Bar in June of that year Ensor was named Assistant Ath-letic Director of Marketing and Promotions at Seton Hall in 1985before returning to Massachusetts as an Assistant Professor in theSport Management Department where his concentration was onsports marketing and sports law

Ensor is a member of many professional associations in-cluding the American Bar Association In addition Ensor is a mem-ber of sport-related associations such as the Sports LawyersAssociation the New Jersey Bar Association Sports Law Commit-tee the American Bar Association Forum on the Entertainmentand Sports Industries NACDA and the CAANJ His communitywork includes current stints as a board member of the MercerCounty Sports amp Entertainment Commission and the MonsignorDonovan High School Leadership Advisory Committee He haspublished in the areas of Sport Law and Sport Marketing In 1994Ensor served as chair of the New Jersey Bar Association SportLaw Committee

A member of the Collegiate Commissionerrsquos Association(CCA) Ensor in 2007 began a two-year elected term as Presidentof the association Ensor has been very involved in NCAA gover-nance since 1999 when he began a four-year term on the NCAADivision I Management Council a segment of the new nationalgoverning system for the intercollegiate sports association He cur-rently chairs the Councilrsquos Governance subcommittee Ensor hadpreviously served on the old NCAA Council and in January 1996he served as Chair of the Division I-AA NCAA ConventionBusinessSession In 2013 he began a term on the NCAAAdministrationCabinet where he serves on the AdCom He previously served onthe Division I Championships Cabinet where he chaired the ex-empted events subcommittee Ensor has also served on the NCAADivision IAA Governance Committee and on NCAA committeesdealing with playing season exemptions athletic certification andthe regulatory culture of the NCAA governance restructuring andantitrust issues Ensor was appointed in 1996 and 2003 to a one-year terms as the chair of the IAA commissioners From 1999-2003he was served as SecretaryTreasurer of the Ice Hockey CollegiateCommissioners Association

In 2007 Ensor extended his involvement with national is-sues when he was appointed to a 5-year term on the NCAA Divi-sion I Womenrsquos Basketball Committee The committee is chargedwith annually selecting teams seeding bracketing and operatingthe NCAAWomenrsquos Basketball Championship including the FinalFour

In 2001 Ensor was named by the American FootballFoundation as its Commissioner of the Year and in 1999 he waspresented a Distinguished Service Award from the MetropolitanBasketball Writers and in 1998 was inducted into the Saint PeterrsquosUniversity Hall of Fame He also is a member of the MonsignorDonovan HS Hall of Fame In 1996 the University of Massachu-setts Amherst Sport Management Program named Ensor as therecipient of the VanderZwaag Distinguished Alumnus Award In1989 the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities namedEnsor as one of the ldquoLeaders of Servicerdquo in its Bicentennial Seriespublication In 1993 Ensor was honored by NACWA as a ldquoGoodGuyrdquo for his efforts in regards to gender equity

Academy Bus Commissioners Cup Standings

In the conferencersquos continuing efforts to recognize the achievements of its student-athletes the Academy Bus Commissionerrsquos Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the 24 championship athletic events conducted within the MAAC Each institution is scored in all championships that it fields a varsity team However only the scores from the menrsquos and womenrsquos basketball participation plus the other top six menrsquos and other top six womenrsquos championships shall be used to determine an institutionrsquos total points

For sports without a championship event or a regular-season required schedule points are assigned based on the number of competing varsity teams Each team receives points based on its finish with the last place team receiving one point and the champion receiving a bonus point Teams that are tied by record or point total in standings shall split the points for those positions regardless of any further tie-breaking procedures In sports with associate members points will be distributed based solely on the finish of the core MAAC teams The bonus point for the first-place finish will only be awarded if the team actually won the MAAC championship

For sports with a required regular-season schedule and four-team tournament participation points are awarded for regular-season performance as indicated above Championship participants earn additional points in the following schedule 5-3-2-1 In sports with just semifinals and finals it is 5-3-15-15

For sports with required regular-season scheduling and full tournament participation points are awarded for regular-season performance and tournament finish This system is used primarily for menrsquos and womenrsquos basketball as well as teams that participate in championship events at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

MAAC Student Athlete Advisory Committee

The MAAC Student-Athlete Advisory

Committee (SAAC) was established by the

conference to give student-athletes an

opportunity to generate a voice within the

conference to solicit student-athlete

responses to proposed NCAA legislation and

to discuss issues relating to the welfare of

student-athletes

MAAC SAAC meets in person twice throughout

the academic year Two SAAC representatives from each MAAC school participate in the meetings

where student-athletes discuss current topics and issues on their campuses Recently meetings have

focused on community-service initiatives increasing awareness on campus of SAAC and elevating

student-athlete support for the overall athletic

department

Monmouth University Joins the MAAC

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Council of Presidents accepted Monmouth University as a Conference member on December 14 2013 Monmouth will officially join the MAAC on July 1 2013 for the 2013-14 academic year

Monmouth University is located in West Long Branch New Jersey and has a long history of competitive teams that qualify for post-season play Its mens basketball program has earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament four times (1996 2001 2004 and 2006) Monmouths latest visit to the tournament resulted in its first win in the NCAA Tournament in an opening round game against Hampton University The Hawks mens soccer program has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament twice in 2009 and 2011

Monmouth is home to a number of outstanding sports venues including the Multipurpose Athletic Center (MAC) - home to its mens and womens basketball programs The MAC features a 153200-square-foot center seating 4100 fans a six-lane indoor track locker rooms education and conference space and a fitness center Monmouths soccer programs compete on the Great Lawn which has hosted three Division I Mens Soccer NCAA Tournament games

Founded in 1933 Monmouth University offers more than 45 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and concentrations The MAAC is composed of institutions that are strongly bound by the principles of quality and excellence in academics and athletics Monmouth is no exception with eight of their 19 sports achieving a 100 NCAA graduation success rate This rate is based on the number of student-athletes who entered college and the number of those who graduated within a 6-year period

The addition of Monmouth University adds a third MAAC member in the state of New Jersey with Rider University and Saint Peters University being the other two Saint Peters was a charter member in 1980 The MAAC has a strong foothold in the Northeast regional top media markets including New York Hartford Buffalo and Albany

Quinnipiac University Joins the MAAC

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Council of Presidents accepted Quinnipiac University as a Conference member on December 14 2013 Quinnipiac will officially join the MAAC on July 1 2013 for the 2013-14 academic year

The addition of Quinnipiac will bring the MAAC to 10 members for the 2013-14 season - Canisius College Fairfield University Iona College Manhattan College Marist College Niagara University Rider University Saint Peters University and Siena College

Located in Hamden Connecticut Quinnipiac offers undergraduate and graduate degree in business communications health education law nursing and liberal arts and sciences Quinnipiac and the MAAC share common values of academic and athletic success with Quinnipiacs student-athletes exceeding the average four-year Academic Progress Rates for Division I institutions The Bobcats womens basketball womens cross country womens tennis and womens track programs were all publically recognized by the NCAA for their achievement of multiyear APRs in the top ten percent of all squads in each sport

Quinnipiac mens and womens basketball programs compete in the TD Bank Sports Center which is a 185000-square-foot facility that holds 3570 fans and has state-of-the-art locker rooms training rooms and scoreboards Quinnipiac also boasts top-notch facilities for its soccer lacrosse baseball softball volleyball and tennis programs
