WHAT IS A CHANTICLEER?
The Chanticleer (SHON-ti-cleer) gives Coastal Carolina Uni-versity one of the most unique nicknames in all of sports. Chanticleer comes from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and came to Coastal Carolina University when the University was a member of the University of South Carolina system.
A Chanticleer is a rooster who rules the barnyard with cunning and wit. His competitive-ness never wanes as he battles to the end, using his brains to come out on top every time.

JaimeSellersHead Coach | William and Mary, 2008
Second Season at Coastal Carolina | 0-0
Second Season Overall | 0-0
Jaime Sellers was introduced as the lacrosse pro-
gram’s fi rst head coach by Chanticleer Director
of Athletics Hunter Yurachek on Tuesday, Aug. 9,
2011, in Adkins Field House’s Buddy Sasser Athletic
Hall of Fame room.
Sellers used the 2011-12 academic year to build a
schedule, develop the infrastructure of her program and
recruit a team that began competition in the spring of
2013. Coastal’s lacrosse program, along with the Chan-
ticleers’ other 17 sports, competes in the Big South Con-
ference, which added lacrosse as its 19th championship
sponsored sport in the spring of 2013; whose champion
will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
Joining Coastal Carolina in the eight-team league are
Campbell, associate member Davidson, High Point, Lib-
erty, Longwood, Presbyterian and Winthrop.
“I am excited to have Jaime join our team of head
coaches and the Chanticleer family,” Yurachek said. “Fol-
lowing an extensive search, it was clear that Jaime was
the best person to begin our women’s lacrosse program.
She was highly recommended by her peers at both
Stanford and within the lacrosse coaching circle. She
brings a high level of energy, excitement, organization
and passion that are all needed to begin a program. Our
women’s lacrosse program is in great hands with Jaime
as the head coach.”
Sellers comes to Coastal Carolina after three seasons
(2009-11) as an assistant coach at Stanford University
where she handled the defense and scouting as her main
coaching responsibilities.
In Sellers’ last season at Stanford, The Cardinal
reached a program-high sixth in the national ranking,
setting a school record for wins (16) and goals (301) in a
single season and ranking second in the NCAA in scoring
(15.84 goals per game). The Cardinal made their second
consecutive NCAA playoff appearance after winning the
program’s seventh consecutive Mountain Pacifi c Sports
Federation (MPSF) Championship. Stanford teams dur-
ing her tenure also produced the MPSF Player of the Year
all three years, including Leslie Foard, who became Stan-
ford’s third Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches
Association (IWLCA) All-American and fi rst to earn fi rst
team honors.
In addition to the on-fi eld success, Stanford pro-
duced a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American and
had a total of 31 MPSF All-Academic honors bestowed
upon the student-athletes.
Sellers graduated from William and Mary in 2008
after a 66-goal season, breaking a school single-season
record that had stood for more than 30 years and ranking
13th nationally in goals per game (3.47). That year, she
earned fi rst team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors
as a midfi eld player adding second team All-CAA honors
as a junior. Also during her senior season , Sellers scored
three goals against Stanford and three against George
Mason, who was coached at the time by Amy Bokker, the
current head coach at Stanford. Over her career, Sellers
scored 108 goals, fourth-best on the Tribe all-time list,
and had 19 assists for 127 points.
“We are very excited for Jaime as she pursues this
new opportunity at Coastal Carolina University,” Bokker
said. “She has been a big part of our success at Stanford
and I look forward to seeing her grow as a head coach.”
The native of Kennebunk, Maine, led the Tribe in
six categories as a senior (goals, points, draw controls,
shots, free position goals and shots on goal) and scored
fi ve game-winning goals, while earning second team
IWLCA All-South Region honors and IWLCA Academic
All-American recognition.
Sellers received her B.A. in business administration
in marketing and a B.A. in psychology from William and
Head coach Jaime Sellers and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek

ChristieKaestnerAssistant Coach | Duke, 2010
Second Season at Coastal Carolina
Christie Kaestner is in her second season as an
assistant coach for the Chanticleer lacrosse pro-
gram.
Kaestner primarily works with the off ense
and serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator, and
assists in all other aspects of the program.
“I am excited to have Christie join the Chanticleer
family. It was clear in our fi rst conversation how passion-
ate she is about the game of lacrosse and how motivated
she is to accomplish her goal of becoming a successful
college coach,” said head coach Jaime Sellers.
“Christie’s athletic background and the success she
has had are indicative of the type of excellence Coastal
Carolina lacrosse strives to exemplify. Previously serving
as the `quarterback’ of her alma mater’s off ense, she has
the fi rst-hand experience I was looking for as she played,
worked and won in a highly competitive program, which
is where we hope to be in the future.
Originating from Maryland, a traditional hotbed of
lacrosse, Christie also brings a wealth of knowledge of
the surrounding region’s schools and club organizations,
which will prove to be vital to our recruiting process.”
Kaestner was a standout player at Duke where she
accumulated multiple awards and records. As a senior
in 2011, Kaestner earned fi rst team All-American and
fi rst team All-ACC honors as she led the Blue Devils to
the NCAA Semifi nals. She was also tabbed to the IWLCA
All-South Region team in both 2010 and 2011. Kaestner
fi nished her Blue Devil career with 93 goals and 98 as-
sists to rank ninth all-time in the Duke annals with 191
points. During her senior campaign, Kaestner set the
Duke single-season assists record with 47 on her way to
ranking second all-time with 98.
Kaestner, a three-time member of the ACC Honor
Roll, graduated in 2011 with a bachelor of arts in Sociol-
ogy, as well as a markets and management certifi cate.

2013 COASTAL CAROLINA LACROSSE
COASTAL CAROLINA LACROSSE INAUGURAL SEASON
The Coastal Carolina University football stadium offi cially opened as Brooks Stadium on Sept. 6, 2003, for the inaugural home game of the Chanticleer football program. Scoring a touchdown with just seconds left on the clock, the Chanticleers beat Newberry College 21-14.
With a gift from the late businessman Bob Brooks, the stadium was named in honor of Brooks’ children Coby Garrett and Boni Belle. The $2 million gift is among the largest gifts ever made to the university.
Brooks, who grew up on a farm in Loris, S.C., was the CEO and founder of Eastern Foods, Inc., creators of the Naturally Fresh line of products, and chairman of Hooters of America, Inc. He also created Hooters Air Charter Airline, the National Golf Association Hooters Tour and the Hooters ProCup Series, a series of short-track races in small towns throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Brooks died in 2006.
Phase I of the stadium construction included 6,408 seats, while Phase II added almost 1,000 additional seats prior to the 2006 season. The third phase of Brooks Stadium was completed in 2010 when approximately 1,600 seats were added directly behind the north end zone. Aff ectionately referred to as the Chantourage section, the seating directly in front of Adkins Field House was designated as the student section in 2011. Brooks Stadium accommodates approximately 9,400 fans and was designed to grow with the football program, with a future capacity for up to 20,000 fans.
Brooks Stadium has been ranked among the top stadiums in the nation in attendance based on capacity. In 2010, the Chanticleers hosted a fi rst round NCAA Division I Football Championship playoff game against Western Illinois; the game marked the fi rst postseason game played in Brooks Stadium.
On Feb. 15, 2013, the women’s lacrosse team opens its inaugural season on its new home fi eld, Brooks Stadium. Women’s lacrosse is the 18th Division I sports program for the Chanticleers. The inaugural season for the women’s lacrosse program features nine home contests.

football (Coastal Carolina), UNC Asheville reached the Second Round
of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Coastal Carolina’s women’s
golf team was the fi rst in Conference history to advance to the NCAA
Championship out of Regional play, and a League-record 18 baseball
players were drafted in the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
This past season, the Big South had a record 41 student-athletes
earn All-America distinction, while another 10 were named Academic
All-Americans. The Conference also won its fi rst football playoff game
(Stony Brook), had the national women’s basketball Rookie Coach of
the Year, had two men’s soccer teams reach the NCAA Tournament for
the fi rst time in a decade (Coastal Carolina, Liberty), and had a record
fi ve individuals selected for the NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals -- the most
of any Division I conference in 2011-12. In addition, Liberty was the
fi rst men’s golf team in Conference history to win an NCAA Regional,
and the Flames went on to fi nish 10th at the national event.
Several former Big South student-athletes have also reached
national prominence in recent years. Coastal Carolina’s Amber Campbell
made the U.S. Olympic Team in 2008 and 2012, and was one of fi ve
former Big South athletes to compete in the 2008 Games; VMI’s Reggie
Williams reached the NBA with the Golden State Warriors in 2010, UNC
Asheville’s Ty Wigginton was named an American League All-Star in
2010, and Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson has won six PGA Tour events
since departing the Big South Conference in 2007. Three former Big
South baseball players made their major league debuts in 2012, while
Avery Warley became the third Big South women’s basketball player to
play in the WNBA.
The Conference’s tagline, “Developing Leaders Through Athletics”
was unveiled in 2008-09 in conjunction with the Conference’s 25th
Anniversary. The League also honored its heritage with the Top 25
“Best of the Best” moments in League history from 1983-2008, with
Liberty University’s 10-year women’s basketball championship run
from 1996-2007 being crowned the No. 1 moment in the Big South’s
fi rst 25 years. The Conference’s on-fi eld accomplishments have been
duplicated in the classroom. Annually, more than 40 percent of
Conference student-athletes are named to the Big South’s Presidential
Honor Roll for maintaining a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, and
the League has had more than 120 Academic All-Americans in its 30
years of existence. Furthermore, the Big South has recorded double
fi gure totals in NCAA Public Recognition Awards for APR progress the
last three years.
BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE Since its founding in 1983, the Big South Conference has
matured into a competitive leader in college athletics, actively
pursuing excellence on the fi eld of play and in the classroom. The
League’s growing presence as an NCAA Division I athletic conference is
evident by athletic accomplishments on the national stage, innovative
marketing and media partnerships, increased television packages, and
quality athletic competition while intentionally fostering the academic,
personal, social, athletic and leadership development of each student-
athlete. This has evolved into the Conference’s mission of “Developing
Leaders Through Athletics.” The 2012-13 academic year features the
Big South’s largest membership (12) and sponsored sports (19) in its
29 years of existence.
The Big South Conference was formed on August 21, 1983, when
Charleston Southern (then Baptist College) Athletic Director Howard
Bagwell and Augusta President George Christenberry began recruiting
members into the Big South, receiving initial commitments from
Augusta, Charleston Southern, Campbell, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop.
One month later, Dr. Edward M. Singleton was selected as the League’s
fi rst Commissioner and continued to solicit new members. His eff orts
led to the additions of Armstrong State, Radford and UNC Asheville,
giving the Big South more than the required six members to constitute
an offi cial conference. The Big South’s fi rst year of competition was in
the Fall of 1984, and in September 1986, the Big South Conference was
granted full-fl edged NCAA Division I status.
During its infancy and prior to securing automatic bids to NCAA
Championships, the Big South made early strides in earning at-large
berths in several national postseason events, including volleyball,
women’s basketball and women’s golf. In 1989, George F. “Buddy”
Sasser replaced the retiring Dr. Singleton as Commissioner, and in 1990,
the League received its fi rst automatic bid – receiving an automatic
qualifi er to the NCAA Baseball Championship. Under Sasser’s seven
years of leadership, the Conference implemented its public relations
and compliance programs, and introduced its fi rst-ever men’s basketball
television package, featuring the Big South competing among some of
the fi nest teams in the nation.
In August 1996, Kyle B. Kallander replaced Sasser as the League’s
third Commissioner, and in his 16 years at the helm of the Big South,
Kallander has been instrumental in aggressively promoting the
Conference to new heights. The Conference has enjoyed record levels in
marketing revenue during his tenure, he has brought television coverage
to Big South women’s basketball, baseball, softball and men’s soccer
for the fi rst time in Conference history, as well as increased national
television exposure to the League as a whole through aggressive and
unique television packages.
Under Kallander’s leadership, the Big South developed and
initiated its fi rst long-range strategic plan, re-affi rming the League’s
vision as a distinctive athletic Conference committed to the quality of
institutional life through athletic competition. He also spearheaded the
eff orts to add football as a championship sport, which came to fruition
in 2002, and oversaw the additions of men’s and women’s indoor track
& fi eld in 1997. The Conference’s 19th championship sport -- women’s
lacrosse, begins play this season with eight members. At the same time,
Kallander has solidifi ed Conference membership, as an all-time high 12
member institutions comprise the 29-year old League. Recent additions
include High Point, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian College and Longwood,
plus the return of charter member Campbell University. Kallander’s
long range vision has also included technological advancements, as
the Conference introduced its fi rst live video streaming event in 2005
and has since expanded its video off erings to more than 700 events
annually through a partnership with the member institutions, as well
as the creation of several online and social media platforms.
In the last 15 years alone, the Big South Conference has
experienced monumental growth and success in nearly every sport.
During this time, the Conference has had an individual National
Champion six times, has had more than 280 All-Americans, has reached
the “Sweet 16” in men’s soccer, women’s basketball and baseball, has
received national Top 25 rankings in football, men’s soccer, men’s
basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, men’s outdoor track & fi eld,
and men’s golf, had an individual selected to play in the NCAA Singles
Championship seven times in addition to the fi rst men’s tennis doubles
at-large selection, had the fi rst women’s golf program advance to the
national fi nals, had the No. 1 ranked men’s golfer in the country, had
the nation’s top scoring men’s basketball team fi ve consecutive years as
well as the national men’s basketball scoring leader twice, received an
at-large playoff berth in the Football Championship Subdivision in 2006,
has had six NFL Draft picks, and has had two institutions fi nish in the top
10 in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships -- including the Conference’s
highest-ever team fi nish in an NCAA event (fi fth in 2007).
In 2006-07, the Big South was the only Conference nationwide to
have an at-large participant in the football playoff s (Coastal Carolina),
a team in the Second Round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
(Winthrop) and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Baseball Regionals (Coastal
Carolina). In fact, Coastal Carolina’s baseball program has been a No.
1 seed four out of the last eight years -- including a national seed for
the fi rst time in 2010, while the Chanticleers’ FCS playoff berth in 2006
came in just the fi fth-year of the Big South’s football existence. The
2009-10 season saw Liberty’s Sam Chelanga win two NCAA National
Championships (cross country, 10,000-meter run); Coastal Carolina’s
baseball team reach the Super Regionals for the second time in three
years as well as being ranked No. 1 in the national RPI and as high as No.
3 in the national polls; and three women’s basketball teams reach the
postseason for the fi rst time in Conference history. In 2010-11, Chelanga
won two more NCAA National Championships (cross country, outdoor
5,000-meter run), the Big South had its fi rst automatic bid recipient in
