Camp ozark aCtivities At Camp Ozark, we believe that education has no borders and for kids to have a meaningful experience, first of all, they must have fun! ...plain and simple. The Incomparable Camp Ozark program allows campers to participate in a wide variety of activities while still receiving specialized instruction in areas in which they are most interested. Activity Programs include “classes” during our weekday Morning Program and our weekend venture Experiences, as well as “structured free-time” during Mish Mash every afternoon. Campers have the opportunity to choose classes they enjoy and spend portions of each day participating and learning in those instructional areas.

morning Classes• Each camper will have a personalized schedule based on their online selections prior to

arrival at Camp Ozark.• Each morning class is designed for campers to learn or improve upon a skill and to have

an absolute blast.• For every week at Camp Ozark, each camper will select three classes in which to participate.• Campers will participate in the same three classes each day, Monday through Thursday

of a week unless a Specialty Activity is selected.• Camp Ozark believes in teaching independence and individual decision-making by

allowing campers the opportunity to change their schedules upon arrival at Camp Ozark, if they so choose.

misH masH • Mish Mash is without a doubt the campers’ “most favorite time of the day!”• During this two hours of free-time each day in the afternoon, all activity and

instructional areas of Camp are supervised and open for recreational use and encouraged learning opportunities.

• Organized tournaments, exercise, and skills clinics are advertised and offered each Mish Mash allowing the camper to benefit from competition or instruction in a specific area.

• During Mish Mash, campers develop independence by having the freedom to choose where they go and having the opportunity to participate in as many activities as they would like.

lake program• Every camper will go to the lake with his or her cabin during their time at Camp Ozark.• Our Lake Program features experienced, qualified instructors, competition ski boats,

Wakeboarding, Water Skiing, Tubing, Sailing, and the famous Ozark Water Weenie!• The lake is the perfect opportunity for campers to try something new, deepen

friendships with the other campers in their cabin, and enjoy the natural setting and ecosystem that Lake Ouachita provides.

• Additional lake time and instruction is available by selecting the Advanced Water Skiing/Wakeboarding Speciality Activity.

venture eXperienCes • Venture Experiences take place during the middle Saturday of two and three-week

sessions only.• Ventures are new and unique learning opportunities that allow campers to participate

in classes that are only offered in the weekend program that they might have never done before.

• Venture Experiences are completely different from Morning Classes and are designed to teach creativity, teamwork and a sense of accomplishment in a new area of development or skill.

• Campers select up to three Venture Experiences based on their interests prior to their arrival at Camp Ozark.

• Camp Ozark believes in teaching independence and individual decision-making by allowing campers the opportunity to change their schedules upon arrival at Camp Ozark, if they so choose.

SPECIALTy AND ELECTIVE

MORNING ACTIVITIES

(See ** activities listed)

Among the various Camp Ozark classes offered during the Morning Program, campers can also choose to take a Specialty or Elective Activity. Speciality Activities are any Morning Classes that require all three activity periods, every day for a week in the camper’s schedule. Certain Speciality Activities allow campers to spend concentrated time working in a specific area of skill or certification, while others offer campers age-specific options where they participate in Morning Classes with campers from their cabins or neighboring cabins. Elective Activities are classes that a camper may choose to take in addition to their regularly scheduled morning classes. When Electives are scheduled, they take the place of the camper’s normal class selections for one or two days a week. If you select a Speciality or Elective Activity, it will be considered as your first choice of classes. All of these classes can be found in the Specialty Activity group on the website.

Campers will have the opportunity to change their schedules upon arrival at Camp Ozark.

What makes our Morning Classes and venture Experiences incomparable? First, Camp Ozark goes to great lengths in the selection, training, evaluation and placement of our instructors for Morning Classes and venture Experiences. In fact, our staff hires “Instructor Specialists” each year who are highly-skilled individuals tasked with lead instruction over specific program areas. Instructor Specialists direct most of our team and individual sports classes as well as our performing arts classes. Another way Camp Ozark seeks to provide an incomparable experience is through its personalized scheduling system. upon arrival, each camper will receive a personalized schedule based on the camper’s online selection. The camper’s scheduled three classes will meet daily for the duration of each week – normally, four times. If the camper stays for a two, three or four-week session, he or she will also have the opportunity to participate in up to three venture Experiences on the middle Saturday!

Each camper is able to change or re-order his or her online preferences at any time up until two weeks before he or she arrives. Camp Ozark works very hard to ensure that campers are satisfied with their personalized schedules. however, in order to promote

independent and individual decision making, if campers are dissatisfied or change their minds, they can change their personalized schedules the first two days of camp. (keep in mind, all Morning Classes and venture Experiences are subject to capacity, age, and gender restrictions. Classes will be assigned on a

first come, first serve basis.)

And remember... if you just can’t fit in all the things you want to try, each afternoon at Camp Ozark, campers will participate in what is known as Mish Mash – campers’ “favorite time of the day!” Mish Mash is structured free-time where all activity and instructional areas of Camp Ozark are staffed and open for recreational use

and encouraged learning opportunities for the campers.

The wide variety of classes, activities and opportunities that campers get to experience at Camp Ozark are just one way we make sure at Camp Ozark . . .

tHere is a differenCe!

Christian educationExperience Values Based Camping.

Make no mistake about it, we are a nondenominational Christian camp. Though we are not a church camp, we would like campers to learn about Christian values and principles while at Camp Ozark. Similar to Camp Ozark’s intentional “values Based Camping” intuitive, Christian values and principles are woven into the very fabric of who we are and into each of our activities.

During Camp Ozark’s morning tribal competition, campers learn about the three flames: maximum effort, maximum enthusiasm, and maximum sportsmanship. In addition, every evening Campers attend one of three worship services based on their ages: Lifeline (younger), Primetime (middle), and Ozone (older). Each service focuses on an age-appropriate, relevant and practical lesson for campers about the life of Christ and Christian-living. Then, every night, each cabin walks through a set devotional that corresponds to their worship service lesson. It is an opportunity for campers to share, learn and love.

leadership trainingOne of the most important values we emphasize at Camp Ozark is Leadership.

Learning how to develop a strong character and ethic, placing the goals of the team over the individual, and making the right choices regardless of the consequences are all part of leadership development. Our values-Based Camping philosophy undergirds everything we do at Camp Ozark. We believe that developing a strong self-esteem, building self-confidence, practicing integrity, being “other-oriented” and valuing relationships are the keys to building “leaders for good.” These important lessons are woven through everything we do at Camp Ozark. There are a thousand opportunities to encourage and exhort each and every day, and we train our incomparable staff to do exactly that!

the camp ozark values Based camping initiative was born out of

the following five core values:

self-esteemself-ConfidenCe

integrityteamWorkfriendsHip

F.I.T. (First Is Third) is the overriding theme of Camp Ozark’s spiritual emphasis. Our belief is that in order to “win” in our lives, we must place God first, others second and ourselves third. By placing ourselves third, by being “F.I.T.”, we actually come in first in the “game of life.”

Counselors and staff lead by personal example, letting actions speak louder than words. Love for God through Christ, love for each other, respect, integrity, friendliness and cheerfulness...these are the qualities of Christian living we hope to convey to each camper as we live, play, teach, and work with one another.

p. 39

Why CAMP OzARk?VALUE – That is our simple, direct, one word response to this all important question. Through the combination of our incredible setting, facilities, educational program offerings, customer service and people, you will never find a better value in a summer camp experience. But the value of Camp Ozark cannot be measured only by these tangibles because the real value of Camp Ozark is in our values.

Camp Ozark is fully committed to aiding families in the nurturing and development of children and adolescents. In addition to adherence to our mission and philosophy, this is achieved through our positive, energetic emphasis on a relationship with God through Christ carried out through our Spiritual Emphasis Program and our unique Values Based Camping Initiative that is interwoven throughout all areas of Camp Ozark.

CabinsCabins at Camp Ozark are arranged by age group and gender and are strategically located throughout Camp Ozark. The Summit is an area set apart for our older campers and is serviced by a separate dining facility and health Center. The typical cabin arrangement is 10 campers with 2 counselors. The cabins are rustic (screen doors, screen windows, ceiling fans), and campers sleep in bunk beds. Each sleeping area has a shelf and access to an electrical outlet (for fans or clocks). Most campers use bath houses, although some cabins do have their own facilities.

Cabin assignmentsCampers are assigned to cabins according to age, development and school grade. Campers may request to be placed in the same cabin with up to two other campers. All such requests must be submitted in writing and must be made by both campers, via My Ozark or email to [email protected]. Additionally, requested cabin mates must be no more than 12 months apart in age, and no more than four campers from the same school or social group will be placed in the same cabin. Every effort is made to place campers according to their cabin preference, but final placement is at the sole discretion of the Camp Director.

If these items are brought to camp, they will be taken up and held in a secure location in the camp office. Expensive cameras and watches should be left at home due to the risk of breakage or loss. Camp mom Camp Moms, typically former Ozark staff members, serve as a mom away from home and strive to help make the experience of sending a child to camp as smooth and worry-free as possible for both the camper and the parents. Camp Moms have a network in place that enables them to meet camper’s needs, address issues such as homesickness, and to give first-time camper status reports to camp families a few days into their camper’s session.

Camper CareOur Camper Care program is in place to meet the emotional needs of our campers who are experiencing a special situation before or during their time at Camp Ozark or in the rare case that a family emergency arises while your child is at Camp. The Camper Care Team provides support and aims to accommodate special requests should an emergency arise.

BirthdaysCampers with birthdays while at camp are recognized in a variety of ways: their birthday is announced and celebrated during the Morning Show; the entire cabin gets a bag of birthday decorations, hats and other fun items; and the birthday boy/girl receives a birthday cake at lunch to share with the cabin. In addition, parents may purchase a Birthday Package via the Camp Ozark store for delivery on the special day.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fresh fruit are also available during most meals.
