Summer Reading Programs for All Ages!

JUNE 4 JUNE 4 JUNE 4 --- JULY 27JULY 27JULY 27 (Registration opens at 5 p.m. on June 4)

Birth to age 5: Register at the Children’s Desk. Explore the six early literacy skills with our “Dig Into Reading” activity sheets. Earn prizes for each five activities completed! Goal: Complete 20 activities.

K-5th grade: Register at the Children’s Desk. Using the time record provided, keep track of time spent reading to earn goal prizes and grand prize drawing tickets. Each sticker equals 30 minutes. Goal: Log 10 hours of reading.

6th-12th grade: Register at the children’s desk. Using the time record provided, keep track of time spent reading to earn goal prizes and grand prize drawing tickets. Goal: Log 15 hours of reading.

Adults: Be a role model for the kids! Our adult reading program is simple! Just register one time and then submit a prize entry slip for each title you read or listen to.

Dog Days of Summer: August 5 - 10

Free Family Movies! Aug. 5 @ 5:45 p.m. and Aug 7@ 11 a.m. The audience will vote from a selection of titles. Guests may bring a

brown bag lunch/supper and a lawn chair or blanket, if desired. No registration.

Meet Tango: August 10 @ 10:30 a.m.

Learn about the life of a certified therapy dog and make Tango’s day by reading

some of her favorite stories to her!

Touch a Truck Summer Read Kick-Off: June 4 from 4 - 6 p.m. (lot next to tennis courts on College Ave.) Bring the whole family to get a close-up view and explore all types of vehicles, including an ambulance, police car, fire truck, snow plow, semi truck, semi wrecker, sprint car and much more! Coca-Cola will provide complimentary Smartwater™ while supplies last. SPECIAL PRIZE DRAWING FOR CINCINNATI REDS TICKETS! Stop by the library table at the event for more information. Prize includes four view-level seats for a June 20, 12:35 p.m. game ($60 value).

Monday Matinees: June 10, 17, 24 & July 8, 15, 22 @ 1 p.m., Library lower level What do you do when the pool's busy and it's too hot to play outside? Come down to the library and watch a free movie with us! Every Monday, June 10-July 22 (except July 1), we'll watch a family friendly movie which we will vote on before the showing. Feel free to bring your own blanket, chair, snack, or lunch while you enjoy this free entertainment.

Dinosaur Dig: Wednesday, June 12 @ 11 a.m., Library lower level Get a firsthand look at what it is like to be a paleontologist digging for dinosaur bones; play games, taste Dino treats and then make a dinosaur of your very own. No registration required.

Welcome to the Flower Garden: June 13, 20, 27 & July 11, 18, & 25 @ 1 p.m., Library lower level This six-week Flower Garden program is for girls in grades K-5, presented by the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. The standard program fee will be waived as a courtesy for summer reading club members. Advance registration required by June 5. Attendance at all six sessions is requested.

Dirt is Delicious! Wednesday, June 19 @ 11 a.m., Library lower level If you’ve ever wanted to eat dirt, this is the program for you! Make tasty “dirt” treats, learn about what’s in your dirt, how it helps grow yummy vegetables and more fun stuff.

Crafty Critters: Wednesday, June 26 @ 11 a.m., Library lower level Burrowers beware! We are going to dig in to the facts about animals that burrow and learn how to be like them. We’ll also play fun games and enjoy tasty treats!

Ahoy Matey! It’s Pirate Day! Wednesday, July 10 @ 11 a.m., Library lower level Impress all your friends when you learn to talk like a pirate! Enjoy pirate food and practice your pirate skills by searching for treasure throughout the library while wearing the pirate costume you create.

Leprechauns, Gnomes, & Trolls... Oh My! Wednesday, July 17 @ 11 a.m., Library lower level Learn about fabled creatures, the way they behave, and the worlds they live in! Bring a rock or stone from your backyard

to make into your own creative pet!

Wonderful, Wiggly Worms! Tuesday, July 23 @ 11 a.m., Library lower level Join Naturalist Beth Theisen from the Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District as we “dig into” the lives of wonderful, wiggly

worms. Hear a story and meet live worms up close and personal!

Edible Books Contest & Summer Read Finale: Thursday, July 25; Festivities begin @ 6 p.m. Bluffton Public Library and Bluffton University Musselman Library are hosting an Edible Books Contest to encourage reading and creativity for all ages! Library patrons, staff, faculty, business owners and community members are invited to

participate in this free event sponsored by Community Markets. Professional cooks and bakers may compete for bragging rights. See back page for registration deadline and contest information.

Storing Your Harvest: August 6 @ 6:30 p.m. Learn what to do with all your vegetables.

Gardening programs organized by the Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area. No registration required.

Weave a Custom Basket: June 8, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. No experience necessary. Make a multi-purpose basket. $12 supplies fee payable at time of registration.

Create Faux Canvas Art: July 11 @ 6:30 p.m. Bring a 12”x12” laser print and we’ll supply the rest. Instructions for preparing a print will be provided. $5 supplies fee payable at time of registration.

Discover Your Flower Power! July 23 @ 6 p.m. Bring a variety of fresh flowers, grasses or leaves and hammer them into art. Prepared fabric will be provided. $5 supplies fee payable at time of registration.

June 10 - July 27: Bring in activity logs (early literacy program) and reading records (youth and teen) for prizes and

tickets as goals are met throughout the program. Goals and instructions are included in each registration bag.

Superhero Day: Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Ever wish you were a superhero? What would your special power

be? Join the fun, make your own Hero sandwich and watch a special screening. Come dressed as a superhero if you dare. Register at the circulation desk by June 10.

Teen Late Night: Friday, August 2, 5 - 10 p.m.

Teens who complete our summer read program are invited to attend this special after-hours event filled with fun activities! Meal provided; bring a dessert to share. Register between July 8

and July 29. Parents must sign permission forms at the library circulation desk. No late arrivals or early departures permitted.
