JOB READINESS TRAINING FAQ

What do we do in the Job Readiness Training?

Students selected to participate in the program are required to complete 7 weekly workshops, which will help prepare them to apply for jobs and to be successful once they get jobs. Training covers many topics such as dressing for interviews/work, developing resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and communication in the workplace. We even go over personal money management and how to budget. When is it and how long does it last?

Training is held on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00PM, for 7 weeks in a row. See previous page for session dates. For more detailed information call 805-964-4710 ext. 4421.

Where is training held?

Hope School District Board Room: 3970 La Colina Rd, Room 1; Santa Barbara, CA 93110. (A bus stop is located across the street.) Am I paid for going to training?

Yes. Students earn minimum wage ($8/hour) upon completing 12 training hours. How many workshops am I allowed to miss? Just one. And you’ll have to make it up before you can begin your internship. If you miss more than one of the scheduled trainings, you can no longer participate in the program.

Does the program help students with transportation to training and to work? Yes. We can provide bus passes to students who have trouble paying for them throughout the program.

WORK EXPERIENCE/INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

x Students will interview with potential internship sites, according to their career

interests, during the training period or just after the training period ends.

x Once hired, interns will earn $8/hour (minimum wage) and will work an average of 10 hours per week, sometimes more during the summer if schedules allow.

x Internships usually last about 8-10 weeks, or a total of 80 hours.

x While on the job, interns will manage their time cards and be responsible for turning in time cards on due dates in order to receive paychecks.

x Employers will evaluate interns every two weeks in order for students to receive valuable feedback that will help them in future work opportunities.
