TICKET INFORMATION
Dumke Field, on the site of the Dane Hansen Stadium, was opened October 2, 1949, by college president Robert D. Steele (1939 to 1952). It was a gift of the George Hansen family in memory of a son and brother, Lt. Dane Hansen, Class of 1940, who lost his life in World War II. Having had seating for 1,200 attendants, the stadium has been the college soccer and activities field, commencement green, and later paved parking facility. In Fall 2005, it was transformed into a two-level parking structure, with an elevated artificial turf athletic field rebuilt on top. This facility is now the home field for the Griffins men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. The facility has a seating capacity for 1,700 spectators.
The facility is located on the Westminster College Campus - 1840 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84105. Enter campus from 1700 South and 1200 East - parking is free in either one of our parking garages.
DUMKE FIELD
WHAT IS A GRIFFIN?The Griffin is a legendary creature with the head, beak, and wings of an eagle, the body of a lion, and occasionally, the tail of a serpent or scorpion. Its origin lies somewhere in the Middle East where it is found in the paintings and sculptures of the ancient Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians. In Greek mythology, they took gold from the stream Arimaspias and, neighbors of the Hyperboreans, they belonged to Zeus. The later Romans used them for decoration and, even in Christian times, the Griffin motif often appears. Griffins were frequently used as gargoyles on medieval churches and buildings.

TONY LeBLANC
Tony LeBlanc begins year number six at the helm of the Westminster women’s soccer program. During his tenure, Westminster has compiled a 48-44-6 overall record and advanced to the postseason in four consecutive seasons. The Griffins have also
gone 15-13-1 during Frontier Conference action which is the second best record in the conference during that time.
LeBlanc led the Griffins to the best season in school history last season. The team set school records for wins (12), winning percentage (.619) and conference wins (4). They shared the Frontier Conference regular season championship and then won the Frontier/Cal Pac Conference Tournament. Westminster reached the NAIA National Championships for the first time in 2011.
In 2010, LeBlanc guided the Griffins to a 11 wins as the team finished 11-8-1 overall. The team set another school record with five consecutive wins and also had a stretch of eight wins in nine contests. They went 460 minutes without allowing a goal at one stretch and finished 12th nationally with 10 shutouts. They advanced to the semi-finals of the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament with a 1-0 win over Minot State in the quarterfinals. It was the third straight year the team had qualified for the postseason tournament and the second straight year they won a first round game.
The 2009 season saw LeBlanc guide the team to a 9-10-1 overall record. The team earned the No. 2 seed in the Frontier Conference tournament after posting a 3-2-1 record in conference games. They advanced to the tournament championship game with a 2-1 win against Rocky Mountain in the semi-finals. The season ended with a 5-3-1 stretch to match the school record of nine wins set during the 2007 season.
In 2008, Westminster finished year number two of the program with a 7-11-1 overall record. They finished the Frontier Conference season at 2-4 with a third place finish. The team qualified for the Frontier Conference Tournament, where they lost to Rocky Mountain College, 1-0, in the semi-finals.
The 2008 team matched a school record with four consecutive wins, all coming at home. In fact, the Griffins were good at home all season posting a 6-2 record on Dumke Field. They outscored the opposition 15-8 in home games and recorded two shutouts.
In 2007, LeBlanc guided the team to an impressive 9-8-1 record in the first year of the program. The Griffins placed second in the Frontier Conference with a 3-2-0 record and went 4-2-1 on Dumke Field.
Under his leadership, Westminster has had eight players named First Team All-Frontier Conference. They have also received 12 Daktronics/NAIA Scholar Athlete recognitions and had 38 players named Academic All-Frontier.
LeBlanc is a Westminster alumnus, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in international business in 2005. While a student-athlete at Westminster, LeBlanc played for the men’s soccer program for four years under Chris Dorich, being named a two-time academic All-American and serving as a team captain his senior year.
Prior to playing at Westminster, LeBlanc was a two-time member of the Utah State Select team and a three-year varsity letterman at East High School. He was a part of the first Utah Select team to capture the Western Regionals and ultimately finished 3rd at the 2005 State Select National Championships.
Head CoachSixth Season
LeBlanc’s coaching experience varies from the collegiate, high school, and youth levels; he served time as the boys Varsity Assistant/JV Head Coach at East High School and helped them into the state finals and win the State Championship in 2006 for the first time in school history. During the 2006 season, LeBlanc served as Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at BYU-Hawaii where he was instrumental in forming and organizing a first year NCAA Division II women’s soccer program that finished second in the Pac West Conference with a 12-4 record. LeBlanc also has coached club soccer for the girls Rush 93 premier soccer team and currently holds a D license.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is a completely autonomous association currently administering programs of intercollegiate athletics for approximately 330 fully accredited colleges and universities of moderate enrollment.
The fundamental tenet of the NAIA is that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the total educational program of the institution.
This belief is strongly reflected in the governing documents, activities and organizational structure of the Association.
Established in 1940 as the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball (NAIB), the Association expanded to include other programs in 1952. The NAIA became the first intercollegiate sports governing body to provide championship opportunities for both men andwomen when the women’s program was established on August 1, 1980.
The purpose of the NAIA is to promote education and development of students through intercollegiate athletic participation. Member institutions, although varied and diverse, share a common commitment to high standards and the principle that athletes serve as an integral part of education.
The NAIA embraces the concept of the student and recognizes the importance of the individuality of each member institution, the value of the conference and regional structure, and the benefits of membership in a national association.
The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative which emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches and parents in our communities.
Coaches, parents, administrators and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines and behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.
The Frontier Conference was organized in 1935
with four of the eight existing colleges as charter
members. Carroll College joined in 1938. For a
10-year period, from 1974 to 1984, the College
of Great Falls, now the University of Great Falls
competed in the conference. Great Falls rejoined
the Frontier in 1999-2000. For a short time, MSU-
Billings (then Eastern Montana College) was a
member of the league.
New members in 1998-99 were Lewis-Clark State College of Lewiston,
Idaho and Westminster College of Salt Lake City, Utah. Dickinson State was
approved for membership starting with the 2012-13 season while Southern
Oregon will join as a football member at the same time. The College of Idaho
will join the league as a football only member in 2014.
The conference now consists of Carroll College, Dickinson State College,
Eastern Oregon University (football only), University of Great Falls, Lewis-
Clark State College, Montana State University-Northern, Montana Tech,
University of Montana Western, Rocky Mountain College, Southern Oregon
University (football only) and Westminster College.
The purpose of the Frontier Conference is to encourage, promote, sponsor
and control athletic competition among participating colleges as an
integral part of the total educational process. With their motto, “The Best in
academics and athletics,” members compete for conference championships
in football, basketball, golf, volleyball, soccer, and cross country.

2012 Westminster Griffins Women’s Soccer
The Westminster College women’s soccer team
completed the most successful season in school
history in 2011. The fifth season in school history
saw records fall and postseason success like never
before.
Westminster finished the year at 12-7-2 overall.
The 12 wins set a new school record, surpassing
the 11 wins the team had during the 2010
campaign. The Griffins earned a share of the
regular season Frontier/Cal Pac Conference
championship for the first conference title in school
history.
The regular season success was followed with
a conference tournament championship and
the teams first-ever trip to the NAIA National
Championships. They finished the year ranked No.
19 in the postseason NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
That is the highest ranking in the history of the
program.
The Griffins got off to a quick start in 2011 as they
opened the year with four wins in the first five
games they played. After two losses, Westminster
then out together a 4-1-1 span that saw the record
climb to 8-4-1 in early October. After suffering
two losses in Montana, The Griffins put together
a five-game unbeaten streak that featured four
consecutive victories heading into the national
tournament.
Westminster scored a school-record 38 goals
during the 2011 season. They scored multiple
goals on 10 occasions during the year while scoring
at least four goals in a game five times. They set
another school record by scoring at least one goal
in each of the first nine games played. That broke
the record of seven straight games with a goal set
during the 2009 season.
The Griffins also shared the ball for a record 26
assists during the year. They assisted on 86.4%
of their total goals scored on the season and had
10 different players record at least one assists on
the campaign. They broke another school record
by averaging 1.24 assists per game and they were
third in the conference in total assists.
The 102 total points the offense accounted for
shattered the previous record of 80 set during the
2007 season. That is a 127% increase over the
previous record. They also set a new standard for
averaged points per game with the 2011 average of
4.86. Just for kicks, the 2011 team set new school
records for shots attempted (284), shots per game
(13.52), shots on goal (152) and SOG per game
(7.24).

The defense wasn’t lacking either
in 2011. Westminster opponents
averaged just one goal per game
during the season and only five
times had multiple goals. No
Griffin opponent scored two goals
in a game over the final 10 games
of the season. In fact, over those
same 10 games the Griffins only
allowed four goals total.
The Griffins posted nine shutouts during the year
and ranked 18th in the NAIA in total shutouts.
They were 23rd nationally with an average of 0.43
shutouts per game. The nine shutouts are the
second most in school history and the 0.98 goals
against average they had in 2011 is a new school
record.
While they finished the year ranked No. 19 in the
NAIA Coaches’ Poll, Westminster had a stellar year
in the national rankings. The team began the year
among the others receiving votes and stayed there
for the first two polls of the regular season. They
moved to the No.24 position in the poll that was
released on Sept. 20, marking the first time in
school history that the Griffins had cracked the Top
25.
After falling out of the Top 25 the next week, the
Griffins ascended to a then-record No. 22 in the
Oct. 4 poll. They slipped to No. 23 the next week
before dropping to the others receiving votes for
the next three polls. Westminster returned to the
poll at No. 24 on Nov. 8 and was tied for 23rd in
the final regular season poll on Nov. 15. When the
final poll of the season was unveiled on Dec. 6, the
Griffins had set school records for highest ranking
at No. 19 and most points received with 187.

Senior Sarah Swenson became the second player in school history to be
recognized by the NAIA as an All-American. She was tied for second on the
team this season with 14 points with five goals and four assists. The 5-foot-6
forward from Salt Lake City attempted 38 shots during the season and put
22 on goal. She played 1,797 minutes and started all 21 games the team
played.
Swenson joins Heather Hillam as the only two players in school history to
be named to the All-American list by the NAIA. Hillam received her honor
following the 2010 season. Swenson was also named first team All-Frontier
Conference last for the second consecutive season.
Westminster had six players recognized all-conference by the Frontier
Conference along with head coach Tony LeBlanc being named the Coach of
the Year. Hillam and Swenson were both named to the all-conference team
for a second consecutive season. Dayna Winter-Nolte earned her second all-
conference honor and first since 2009. Michelle Erickson was also named to
the squad for a second time with her first coming following the 2008 season.
Margo Hickam made this year’s team in her first year with the Griffins. Corie
Walch was recognized as an honorable mention selection.
The Coach of the Year award for LeBlanc is the first of his career. It is also
the first time that any Westminster representative has taken home any type
of individual award.
Westminster had four student-athletes named a 2011 Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar Athlete. Hillam, Nikki Kopfman, Elaina Pappas and Swenson were
each named a Scholar Athlete for the 2011 season. The four players on the
list is the second-most in a season in school history and gives the Griffins a
total of 16 Scholar Athletes in the program’s history.
2011 SEASON IN REVIEWThis is the third straight year that Pappas has been named to the list which
ties her with Maddie Maldonado and Danielle Rankin for the most in school
history. Swenson made the list for the second consecutive season while
Hillam and Kopfman receive their first honor.
Junior forward Margo Hickman finished the year with 11 goals, five assists
and 27 points to lead the team in each category. She finished second in
school history for goals and points in a season while tying the record for
assists in one season. Hickman fired a school record 76 shots and 45 shots
on goal. Her five game-winning goals are also a school record and ranked
28th in the NAIA while her 0.24 GWG per game was 42nd nationally.
After scoring six goals during the season, Hillam set the school record
for career goals with 20. She is also the Westminster career leader with
45 points and ranks sixth with five career assists. Hillam in No. 1 at
Westminster in shots attempted (133), games played (80) and games started
(80). She started every game that the Griffins played during her four year
Westminster career and played a record 6,696 minutes in those games.
Senior Winter-Nolte was a key to the Griffins success this season while
starting every game in goal. Winter-Nolte recorded 68 saves during the year
and finished one shy of matching her career high of 69 set in 2008. Her 12
wins this season set a new school record and she is second in school history
with eight shutouts. Winter-Nolte set a new school record by posting a 0.98
GAA during the year.
Winter-Nolte is the Westminster career leader in saves, wins and shutouts.
She has made 193 saves during her career while recording 26 wins and 15
shutouts. Her 1.39 career GAA is second overall at Westminster while also
posting a career 71.7% save percentage.

In September 2006, Shay Wyatt was hired as Director of Athletics at Westminster College. Under his guidance the
intercollegiate athletic program has experienced unprecedented growth and success. Wyatt’s leadership has led to increases
in the number of sports offered, enrollment, academic and athletic success, departmental budget, community service efforts
amongst student-athletes, fundraising, corporate partners, ticket revenue, attendance at athletic events, coaches and support
staff and strategic planning efforts for the Athletics Department.
In addition, Westminster Athletics has experienced facility enhancements, improved eligibility and compliance processes, branding and website technologies,
licensing and apparel agreements have been established and a student-athlete
advisory committee and student fan group were formed. Wyatt has served on
various institutional committees and is a member of the National Administrative
Committee of the NAIA which sets policy and procedures for the national
organization.
Prior to Westminster College, Wyatt served as Director of Sports Marketing
and Bruin Club at Salt Lake Community College in 2006. While only at SLCC
for a short period of time, he secured the athletic department’s largest ever
corporate sponsorship.
From 2001-2006, Wyatt served as the Wildcat Club Executive Director at
Weber State University. He was responsible for the development efforts for the
athletics department including annual giving, major gifts, endowments, special
events and donor relations. The Wildcat Club experienced an increase in annual
giving totals each year Wyatt was at the helm, including a 17% increase in 2004.
He was instrumental in securing more than $350,000 in football suites, club
seating and basketball preferred seating.
Wyatt made his way to Weber State via Utah Valley State College where he
served as the Director of Development for Athletics from 1999-2001. He
was responsible for creating the fund raising arm of the athletic department,
serving as the first-ever development director at UVSC. In this role he defined all
aspects of annual giving and major gift opportunities. Upon his arrival at UVSC
he increased annual giving by 30% in his first year. He served as a member of
the strategic planning committee, planning the college’s move from NJCAA to
NCAA Division I.
From 1995-1998, Wyatt served as the Athletic Events Coordinator at the
University of Utah. He was responsible for all aspects of event and facility
management. He served as Assistant Tournament Manager for the 1997
NCAA West Region First/Second Rounds Men’s Basketball Tournament. He
represented the athletics department as a liaison for athletic facility renovation
and construction projects including the $50 million dollar, 50,000-seat
football stadium renovation of Rice-Eccles Stadium and several other facility
construction projects totaling more than $4 million.
A native of Murray, Utah, Wyatt attended Bethel College in Newton, Kansas
where he was a letterman in football. He graduated in 1993 with a degree
in health, physical education and recreation. He holds a Masters degree from
Wichita State University in sports administration. Wyatt prepped locally at
Murray High School (Utah.) He attended Cisco (Texas) JC and Snow (Utah) JC
where he played football for both schools. Wyatt is married to the former
Mickelle Marston. They have two sons Drew (8) and Jake (5).

Payne Gymnasium houses the newly renovated Griffins strength and
athletic training facilities, auxiliary basketball court, locker rooms, and
offices for men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s soccer. Built during the
term of President Herbert W. Reherd (1913–1939), it was named after the
president of the Board of Trustees and manager of the local J.C. Penney
Company; groundbreaking was July 1928 and dedication January 11, 1929.
Though the college worried that it was frivolous to spend money on a
gymnasium, the facility, designed by architect Walter E. Ware, provided
badly needed recreation for the school and groups in the entire Sugar
House area. It was added to and remodeled in 1970 under President
Manford Shaw (1968–1976), and has housed the basketball and volleyball
programs, dances, speakers,
luncheons, career fairs,
orientations, and a variety
of other cultural and social
student events—including
being the practice facility for
the Utah Jazz from 1979 to
May 1999.
BEHNKEN FIELD HOUSE
The Dolores Dore Eccles Heatlh, Wellness and Athletic Center is a three-story, 84,500-square-foot facility, completed in 2006, that houses Griffins Athletics and
includes a swimming pool, full complement of fitness equipment, a weight room and exercise studio, and a technically challenging, 46-foot climbing wall. Above a field
house that holds 1,200 spectators is a suspended running track with a high-tech surface and corner windows with views. The field house includes an athletic training
room, locker rooms, team meeting rooms, coaches offices, and equipment storage space for our popular Griffin intercollegiate sports, including men’s and women’s
basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.

DUMKE FIELD
Dumke Field, on the site of the Dane Hansen Stadium, was opened October 2, 1949, by college president Robert D. Steele (1939–1952). It was a gift of the George
Hansen family in memory of a son and brother, Lt. Dane Hansen, Class of 1940, who lost his life in World War II. Having had seating for 1,200 attendants, the stadium
had been the college soccer and activities field, commencement green, and later a paved parking facility. In fall 2005, it was transformed into a parking structure, with
an elevated artificial turf athletic field on top. This facility is now the home field for the Griffins men’s and women’s soccer and men’s lacrosse teams.

WESTMINSTER COLLEGEWestminster is a nationally recognized, comprehensive liberal arts college. With a broad array of graduate and undergraduate programs, Westminster is distinguished by its unique environment for learning. Westminster prepares students for success through active and engaged learning, real world experiences, and its vibrant campus community. Westminster’s unique location, adjacent to the Rocky Mountains and to the dynamic city of Salt Lake, further enriches the college experience.
While we’re proud that Westminster is consistently ranked as a “Top Tier” college and recognized on the list of “Great Schools” by the U.S.News & World Report, and that Westminster was named “Best in the West” by the Princeton Review, we hope you’ll come to campus, whether you’re a high school student or one of our alumni, and experience the Westminster community for yourself.
ACADEMICSWestminster offers more than 70 academic programs, including 34 majors, from accounting and international business to nursing and sociology. The most popular majors are business, nursing, psychology, and education. In addition, the college offers a variety of minors and 10 graduate programs. About 95 percent of the students go to graduate school or are employed within six months of graduation. The nursing program has a 100 percent placement rate. In addition to Westminster’s successful outcomes, a Utah Foundation study found that Westminster graduates have among the highest starting salaries of any university graduates in the state. These high starting salaries were attributed in part to the fact that nearly 70 percent of students complete an internship before they graduate.
Students choose Westminster College for many reasons, including our intense focus on individual students and their learning, the combination of liberal education and professional studies, our active learning experiences, dynamic campus environment, and the real world experiences we offer to ensure that our students are prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
HISTORYWestminster College has played a pivotal role in the educational heritage of the intermountain area. Founded in 1875 as the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute, a preparatory school, Westminster first offered college classes in 1897 as Sheldon Jackson College. Named in honor of its primary benefactor, Sheldon Jackson, the college operated for many years on the Collegiate Institute campus in downtown Salt lake City. Gradually the institute became identified as the college preparatory department, and high school classes continued to be an integral part of the curriculum until 1945. In 1902, college trustees adopted the new name, Westminster. Moving to its present location in 1911, Westminster became the first accredited two-year junior college in the intermountain area. In 1935 Westminster modified its curriculum to qualify as a four-year junior college and in 1949 became a four-year liberal arts institution offering baccalaureate degrees in the arts and sciences.
Today Westminster exists as a fully independent, privately funded, nondenominational, comprehensive liberal arts institution of higher learning with selected graduate programs, meeting the West’s educational needs as it has since 1875.
