THE

SUMMER 2012

Page 2: 2012 Summer RIverside Times

Soulful and spirited, Jenn is a natural born communicator who brings refreshing authenticity, stunning clarity and contagious conviction to any topic she approaches.

As a mother of two young boys, Jenn prides herself in her skills as a Nerf sword fighter and lego builder. She is happily married to her college sweetheart, Ryan Alexander, whose blue eyes are as deep as his soul. Jenn enjoys Thai food and jogging, but not in that order. Her favorite holiday is April Fools Day.

In 2009, Jenn released her debut album, Better Than Fiction, a collection of origional songs, recorded and produced in Nashville, TN. What Jenn loves about her career as a singer-songwriter, performer and speaker, is the opportunity to connect with realy people, with real problems, who believe God is really faithful.

Jenn collects life in order to share it, and bears her heart so that others can do the same.

Summer 2012’s theme is “Alive.” The theme verse from 1 Thessalonians 5:10 says, “He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.” God’s amazing love for us is shown through His Son, Jesus Christ, and how He gave up His life for us so that we could be alive like He is. That’s right, He’s alive! And not just walking and breathing—He is the fullest life we could have! Thanks to Jesus we can be alive! The summer will also be filled with the great things you love about life at Riverside. Caution: the following list may cause a severe case of overexcitement! Great counselors, music, skits, carpetball, nuke ‘em, large group games, horseback rides, swimming, soccer, football, ranch camp, challenge course, 2@2, bonkers, canoeing, great friends, the mime, Chapel, and many great times filled with the love of Jesus! You sure can’t beat that, can you? No, you can’t! To experience all of this, and much more, check out the information below for more details and register today online! It may be a week that could change your life! If you have never been to camp before, or if you’ve been here for many years, we promise that this will be a great summer of living in and learning about the love of Jesus. We hope you will join us for an amazing time at Riverside!

Family Camp is back again this summer! What a great way to spend a few vacation days! All families with children of all ages are welcome. Grandparents, this is for you, too! This is guaranteed to be a relaxing few days away from your normal busy schedules and focus on your family and God! No cooking, no cleaning, no yard work. Just come and enjoy! Our staff welcomes your family with arms open wide, ready to serve! These days are going to be filled with God’s Word, tons of fun, activity, laughter, and fellowship. Each morning following chapel, the adults will be taught by our adult speaker who will focus on an in-depth Bible study. Meanwhile, the children will be with our awesome counseling staff, divided into age groups. They will experience a time of learning more about Jesus, along with some really fun activities!

Junior High Week Speakers: Brent Osborne & Susan Kliment

Riverside is a place near and dear to Brent’s heart, which makes him all the more excited to be speaking here this summer! Brent is husband to Kari, and daddy to Kristyn, Brady, and Emersyn. Team Osborne lives in Des Moines where Brent has served for 13 years at Zion Lutheran Church as Director of Student Ministries and now as Pastor of Family Spiritual Development. Brent is passionate about Jesus and helping others seek Him as they become fully devoted followers of Christ. Brent loves to spend time outside doing anything active with his family and friends.

Senior High Week Speaker: Dean Swenson

Susan Kliment lives in Northwood, IA with her husband Darrin and their 3 sons Caleb, Samuel and Josiah where they raise

chickens and buffalo. Susan loves to jump on the trampoline, swim with her kids, sit around the fire pit and roast marshmallows with the kids, and laugh with friends. Susan is currently serving as the Children’s Ministry Director at their church in Albert Lea, MN. She’s passionate about sharing Jesus with others and has a deep love for Camping Ministry, so she looks forward to spending time with some great kids at Riverside this summer.

Dean is fully surrendered to God and desperate to knowJesus more each day.He has been working with teens in ministry for 18+ years and serves as Youth and Family Connector at Hosanna! Lutheran Church in Lakeville, MN. He works with students and families challenged by life’s toughest issues and also travels the country singing with his brother, Swen. He has a wonderful wife, Jen, and together they have been blessed with four great kids. His faith was shaped through Bible camps and he’s excited to dig into God’s Word at Riverside. It says in Jeremiah 29:13: “You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart.” Buckle up… we’re going after God this week at camp. I’m looking forward to seeing what God has in store... It will be a great week!!
