Bethany College Bison The Bethany cross country teams continued to turn in strong early-season performances, highlighted by two newcomers on the men’s side and one on the women’s, when the Bison ran at the Waynesburg Invitational Saturday … The Bethany men’s team finished eighth out of nine overall teams, while the BC women were 10th out of 14 programs … The highest finish from a Bethany runner came in the women’s race by freshman Brooke Bosworth … She placed 21st overall out of 132 runners by crossing the finish line in 25:58.3 … Sophomore Jessica olson was the next for BC to finish, as she was 43rd overall with a time of 27:21.8 … Rounding out those who scored for the Bison were junior Heather Hamm in 66th place, freshman Gabi Bonazzo was 72nd and junior emily king came in 76th … The Bison men saw two newcomers finish in back-to-back positions in the 89-man field … Sophomore Cody McDonald led the Green and White pack by taking 29th place in 29:22 … Right behind him in 30th was freshman Ryan Donnelly, as he clocked in at 29:33.3 … Junior Cory yarrington was next in for Bethany, earning 50th place with a time of 30:36.9 … The Bison’s other scoring runners included freshman Brenton Nutter and freshman Chris Troyer.

Not much can slow down the women’s cross country team these days and that includes a driving rain storm ... Running in much less than favorable conditions, the Golden Tornadoes picked up their second overall victory of the season with a win at the Waynesburg Invitational ... Geneva took home first place in a field of 14 schools with an overall point total of 39, which was 15 points better than the next closest competitor ... Defeating PAC schools Waynesburg, Saint Vincent, Washington & Jefferson, Bethany and Chatham, the Golden Tornadoes also ran past NCAA Division II foe California (Pa.) on their way to victory ... Freshman sensation Sarah-Noel Meek finished third overall with a time of 23:46 becoming just the eighth Geneva female to post a sub-24 minute time in school history ... Alayna Merkle finished fifth and emily Hoobler’s seventh place time of 24:46 was a personal best by an astounding 59 seconds ... Geneva’s men’s cross country team had the weekend off and will be back in action on September 22nd at Saint Vincent.

The Grove City cross country teams return to action Friday evening at the Slippery Rock University Invitational.

The Bearcat women finished sixth of 14 teams at the Waynesburg Invitational this past weekend ... Junior Genie Fratto medalled for SVC, finishing 13th overall with a time of 25:08 ... Freshman samantha Fether finished second on the team with a time of 26:36 while sophomore Carly Meholic was third for SVC in 27:29 ... Senior Gloria Bullock and freshman Tracy Rush rounded out the scorers for SVC with times of 27:47 and 28:01 ... The Bearcat mem were idle last week in preparation for this week’s National Catholic Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.

Chatham University Cougars At Saturday’s Waynesburg Invitational Chatham finished 12th (284 pts.) in the 14-team event ... Rachel Leftwich placed 18th overall with a time of 25:41.8 ... Leftwich was followed by Tessa Hochberg in 39th place (27:08.8), Alexi Frederick in 63rd place (28:36.1), Abby Brennan in 79th place (30:17.4) and Hannah Esser in 85th place (31:13.1).

Thomas More College Saints The Thomas More men opened the season with an eighth place finish at the Queen City Invitational last week with 194 points … Junior Matt Wurtzler led the Saints as he finished with a time of 17:01.23 to place 20th overall … Thomas More had two other runners place in the Top-51 as freshman Alex Henn finished 47th with a time of 18:22.55, freshman Jacob Condon placed 50th with a time of 18:29.57 and sophomore Peter Curnutte finished 51st with a time of 18:34.31 … Rounding out Thomas More runners were freshman Jimmy Booth in 62nd place with a time of 19:02.13, sophomore Logan Pattison-knutson in 80th place with a time of 20:31.30, freshman Aaron Fuller in 84th place with a time of 21:22.43, junior Joel Daley in 88th place with a time of 22:58.91 and freshman Jaime Leon in 90th place with a time of 24:53.59 ... the Thomas More women also competed at the Queen City Invitational, but didn’t post a team score as it only had four runners … Thomas More was led by senior Celia Arlinghaus, who placed 21st with a time of 21:24.51 ... Junior kelsey Hinken placed 45th with a time of 23:06.31, freshman Casey McCauley was 57th with a time of 24:28.66 and freshman Tori McCarty finished 58th with a time of 24:51.69.

Senior scott Ryan won his second-straight Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday to pace the Washington & Jefferson men’s squad … as a team, the Presidents finished fifth in the nine-team race … Ryan topped the field of 89 runners with a time of 26:09.9 on the 8K course … he finished 45 seconds ahead of the sec-ond-place finisher … senior Benjamin kopchick was the men’s squad’s second-best finisher in 20th place (28:35.6) … junior Ronald Graf took 34th place in a time of 30:01.3 ... Sophomore kristen Galligan won her second-career race at the Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday … she was victorious in the 142-woman field after posting a time of 22:46.4 … W&J finished eighth overall in the 14-team field … freshman keri Reeves placed 34th with a time of 26:42.8 … classmate Jackie smith recorded a 48th-place showing (27:30).

The Waynesburg men placed fourth out of 10 teams at its home invitational on Saturday … Freshman Ben McAuley turned in one of the fastest times in program history as he led the Jackets with an 18th-place showing in the 89-man field … McAuley crossed the finish line in 28:26.2, which was three spots ahead of sophomore John Allison, who placed 21st with a time of 28:36.1 ... The Waynesburg women placed third out of 14 teams at its home invitational on Saturday … Junior Bre Paul led a group of four top-20 finishers by placing 10th in the 132-woman field with a time of 24:54.6 ... Paul was followed by freshman Megan Ferrick and senior Megan Fortna, who crossed the finish line in 12th and 14th respectively … Ferrick posted a time of 25:06.3, while Fortna completed the race in 25:20.3 … The Jackets’ high-placing quartet was completed by sophomore Joy Talbott, who posted the 19th-place time of 25:44.5.

The Titans were off last week and will be back in action September 15 when they travel to Penn State Behrend.

Thiel College Tomcats The Thiel men’s and women’s cross country squads competed at the Knight Invitational Saturday, hosted by Calvin College ... The women’s team had one of their best showings in recent history, as five runners completed the 5k in under-22 minutes ... In the men’s eight-kilometer event the Tomcats finished 19th (of 22) with 540 points, while the women finished 20th (of 22) with 640 points in the five-kilometer race ... On the men’s side sophomore steve Morgan paced the Tomcats with an 86th overall finish in the 313-runner field with a time of 26:59.7 ... After Morgan, the Tomcat finishers were Ryan Thomas in 185th (28:28.7), followed by Alex knaby in 232nd (29:26.9) and Mason Bednash in 248th place (29:55.7) ... the women’s team was led by freshman Meri steinmetz, who took 103rd place in the field of 304 runners with a time of 20:05.7 ... steph Felix finished 195th (21:29.9) for the Tomcats, followed by Valerie White in 205th (21:32.6) and Emily Petrak in 212th place (21:55.7) ... kristin Diegan was the fifth Tomcat to cross the line in under-22 minutes, finishing her race at 21:55.7 and 224th place ... The Tomcat cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Oberlin College.
