Join us for an exciting theme-based program to explore and learn about thevariety of habitats and creatures of the sanctuary. Each week will blend outdoorexploration, age-appropriate activities, games, and crafts. A field trip to either theDaniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary or Duxbury Beach will further enhance thecamp experience each week.

Secrets of the Wild June 25 - 29Roll over logs, flip rocks, and look inside tree cavities to discover what kind of wildlife ishiding out on the sanctuary.

Jaws, Claws, and Furry Paws July 9 - 13Find out which furry animals have the sharpest teeth and the strongest claws as you learnabout local mammals.

A Little Birdie Told Me July 23 - 27Flutter and flap your way through the trails to discover what it's like to live in a nest andgrow up as a bird.

Down in the Ground August 6 - 10Dig in the soil and search through the grass to see what kind of critters are wiggling,hopping, crawling, and tunneling.

Little Look Abouts are involved in activities especially designed for a young child's energylevel and curiosity about animals and plants. The small group size allows for extraattention and guidance during daily trail explorations, crafts, and games. Group size islimited to 10 with a 5:1 camper/instructor ratio.

Discoverers For children entering grade 1

Each Discoverers session is designed to encourage a young child's curiosity, increasesensory awareness of plants and animals, and promote joyful play in the outdoors. Groupsize is limited to 10 with a 5:1 camper/instructor ratio.

The explorers program will engage campers with observational and hands-on fieldactivities that emphasize the characteristics and adaptations of living things and willprovide opportunities for free play in nature. Group size is limited to 16 with an 8:1camper/instructor ratio.

Wing'In It July 23 - 27From birds to beetles to bats, come explore the amazing adaptations of our fantasticflying friends and create your own winged creature.

High Flyers July 23 - 27Unlock the secrets of flight as you arm yourself with binoculars and sweepnets to seek out the sanctuary's most gravity-defying animals.

Masters of the Mud August 6 - 10Strap on your boots and prepare to seek out the muddiest and wettestareas of the sanctuary. Find out why certain plants and animals callthese places home.

The Naturalists program is designed to enhance a camper's abilities to identify specificplants and animals through in-depth field studies and will create opportunities for coopera-tive group learning. Group size is limited to 16 with an 8:1 camper/instructor ratio.

Everyday Adventures For children entering grades 1,2,3, & 4

Always a camp favorite, the adventures continue this summer with nature games, hikes,experiments, scavenger hunts, songs, skits, and more. Bring your energy and prepare toenjoy nature's playground, get a little dirty, and experience a new adventure each day.

Project Nature Game II For children entering grades 4,5 & 6

The CIT program provides an opportunity for youths aged 14-16 to receive leadershiptraining and gain valuable job experience. While acting as volunteer assistants to daycamp counselors, CITs will participate in the planning and implementation of weeklyactivities such as crafts, nature projects, camp songs, and games. CITs must attend athree-day training session and the program requires a minimum full-time commitment oftwo consecutive weeks. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. ACIT must be 14 years of age by June 15. For more information or to request an applica-tion, please email Camp Director Amy Quist at [email protected].

After a successful re-creation of the game Snakes & Ladders by campers last summer,Project Nature Game is back and this year we're going to play CHECKERS! Come jointhe fun and help turn another classic board game into a large scale version that is playedoutdoors. Spend part of each day playing other nature games and learn about coopera-tion and teamwork through this big group project.

July 4th Mini Camps For children entering grades 1,2,3,4 & 5

The ABC's of Nature July 2 - 3From ant, beetle and cattail, to adaptation, behavior and cycle - all ages can take thealphabet challenge and seek out examples from nature to match each letter of thealphabet. Take a journey through the natural world and discover shapes of the alphabetall around you. Come see what nature is spelling!

Secret Forest Dwellings July 5 - 6Stir up some magic during this mini-week of camp and shrink into the tiny world of fairiesand gnomes. Using materials found in nature - twigs, rocks, leaves, bark, mosses,acorns, and shells - create your own whimsical habitats and explore the outdoors throughimaginative nature play.Thursday & Friday, 9 am-3 pm Fee is $95 Member/$125 Nonmember

Extreme Earth Artists For children entering grades 1,2,3 & 4

Embrace your imagination this week and explore the wild world of earth art. Make yourown nature journal and learn how to keep records of your outdoor observations. Usingmud, rocks, sticks, and water, create sculptures and paintings inspried by our journeysthrough the sanctuary. Take your creativity to the extreme and finish off the week withsome recycled take-home crafts.

Into the Wild For children entering grades 5 & 6

Sharpen your survival skills this week and find out what it takes to prepare for a wilder-ness exploration. Make shelters, build a fire, and put map and compass skills to work.Learn about the principles of Leave No Trace and discover your leadership potentialthrough challenging group building activities. Explore some local trailheads and conclude

the week with a longer hike through Wompatuck State Park.

Like to study things? Get a crash course in different types of "ologies" and learn about themany ways we can study the world around us. Highlight the week with a day trip toPurgatory Chasm to discover a geologic hot spot and take a hike up to the Blue HillsObservatory to participate in a meteorological science program. From ornithology toarchaelogy to scatology and more, this is your chance to come and explore!

Camper Expectations—Due to the active outdoor and exploratory nature of our campprogram, participants must be able to move about on uneven terrain. Campers areexpected to participate meaningfully in age-appropriate activities, with a focus on naturestudy, and follow stated behavior expectations and safety rules. If you have a questionregarding your child's ability to participate, contact the camp director at 781-837-9400.

Summer Camp Staff—Our instructors are enthusiastic and caring individuals, dedicatedto helping children develop a special relationship with the natural world. All staff undergobackground checks and participate in safety, child development, and natural historytraining. All are First Aid and CPR certified.

A Deposit/Enrollment Fee of $75 per week must accompany each registration.All deposits are nonrefundable and nontransferable to other sessions or persons.After your child's registration is processed, you will receive a confirmation packetwith all necessary forms. Please notify the office if you do not receive the packetwithin two weeks. Please note, Massachusetts state law and the American CampingAssociation require all campers to submit completed health forms supplied by thecamp and a current immunization record with a doctor's signature every year.

Deadline—Health forms and the balance of fees are due on or before June 1,unless special arrangements are made with the Camp Director. Those register-ing after June 1 pay in full. A $20 Late Fee per camper is automatically accrued forany late or incomplete forms and/or payments. Staff members require time to reviewthese forms so that we can better understand the needs of our campers. No camperis allowed in camp without health forms, waivers, and payments completed.

Waiting List—If a session is full, your child can be added to a waiting list.

Refund Policy—the camp fee includes a nonrefundable registration fee. Refundsare not made for dismissal, failure to attend, absence, or sick days. All cancellationsmust be made in writing. If you cancel for any reason before camp begins, yourrefund is calculated by the following schedule (minus the $75 registration fee):• 60+ days in advance—100 percent • 21 days in advance—50 percent• Less than 21 days in advance, no refund. We reserve the right to cancel a sessiondue to low enrollment. In this event, a full refund will be given.

Become a member and SAVE—Membership helps to meet our mission—protecting thenature of Massachusetts. To receive the member rate, your membership at family level($65) or higher, must be current through your last session. You may purchase a member-ship with your registration.

Camp Scholarship Fund — To be considered for a scholarship, please call the campdirector to receive an application. If you would like to help us reach more campers inneed, please consider making a donation to our Camp Scholarship Fund.

North River Nature Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association. This camp must comply with requirements of the

Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105 CMR430), the Marshfield Board of Health and the American Camp

Association and is licensed by the local board of health. In compliance with Department of Public Health

requirements (105 CMR 430109) you may request a copy of the camp's health and discipline policies and

staffing procedures as well as procedures for filing a grievance.
