Transcript of 2012 Manifesto
about stage 17 racing
Stage 17 Racing began over countless hours of conversation on training rides amongst
a tight knit group of friends who share a passion for cycling. The talks became focused
on creating a place where young athletes can be groomed to become professional
adults in environments free of negative influences. Thus the ideals and goals of Stage 17
Racing were set.
Stage 17 Racing is owned and operated by STAGE17.ORG, a nonprofit organization
created by Michael Roecklein using cycling as a vehicle for promoting a healthy
lifestyle and heightened self esteem in adolescents. Roecklein’s background as a
secondary school educator and love of bicycle racing has made him a natural at
mentoring young cyclists. His passion for cycling and youth has lead to the creation of
Stage 17 Racing and STAGE17.ORG.
Stage 17 Racing is a team for male cyclists under the age of 23 who are ready to compete
at a professional level in the United States. Cyclists who meet these criteria come from
wonderful junior cycling programs. Oftentimes when juniors become 18 they are forced
into the role of supporting much older racers and go unnoticed. From this position it
is hard to get the results to make an impact on the cycling world. Stage 17 Racing is not
only focused on winning races; the ultimate goal is to foster clean, mature athletes
prepared to become the next crop of elite American cycling champions.
a professional development cycling team
for athletes under 23. we practice honest
and ethical sport while nurturing the
future of american cycling.
sponsor benefits
Joining Stage 17 Racing as a sponsor is much more than a rolling billboard.
Stage 17 Racing’s riders and staff provide unsolicited endorsements of the quality
products and services associated with the brand just as they do for racing.
Stage 17 Racing is an enthusiastic cycling team that believes in the mission and hopes
that anyone willing to support the team’s vision will share the enthusiasm.
The team will provide your brand the opportunity of being a part of the community
outreach programs and charitable events hosted by the operating organization,
STAGE17.ORG.
All sponsorships and donations to Stage 17 Racing are tax deductable through
STAGE17.ORG. Your investment in the team is an investment in STAGE17.ORG and an
investment in the future of cycling.

North Central – 24% - 20.9 million
Northeast – 19% - 16.5 million

Racing Demographics:
Cycling demographics cover three areas of interest — racing, recreation and spectator events.
Like most professional sports, the race participation is male dominated.
Unlike most sports, cycling has a very large female recreational and spectator base.
•Cycling is the #1 fitness and health activity among doctors and lawyers over the age of 40.
•Cycling is the second most popular recreational activity behind sport walking. It is the only one of
these two that lends itself to commercial sponsorship.
•17 million bicycles are sold in the United States each year.
•The mean price for a professional racing bike is $3,500.
•Household income for 45-49 year old licensed racers ($95,940)

Your support of Stage 17 Racing contributes to a number of things that help
organize an under 23 cycling team including travel, food, race entry fees,
promotion, rider training, etc. By supporting Stage 17 Racing you’re also indirectly
supporting Stage17.org, the nonprofit arm focused on improving the health and
quality of life of adolescents through cycling as a form of transportation and
recreation.
We have high expectations for this team at Stage 17 Racing, both on and off the bike.
Sponsors interested in forming long term relationships should be made aware that
we have many long term goals that extend past the domestic races outlined in the
manifesto. A few races on our extended radar include classics across the pond such
as the U23 Parix Roubaix and U23 Tour of Flanders. Back at home, we aim to bring the
boys to two of the largest stage races in North America -- Tour of Utah and Tour of
California.

stage17.org
Stage 17 Racing is owned and operated by STAGE17.ORG, a nonprofit organization
focused on improving the health and quality of life of adolescents through cycling
as a form of transportation and recreation. STAGE17.ORG utilizes a number of
resources to achieve its goals, like working with junior high and high schools to
provide bicycling advocacy demonstrations. STAGE17.ORG also establishes group
rides for any skill level encouraging bicycle riding among adolescent with their
parents.
Adolescent health is a great concern as well, so STAGE17.ORG provides nutrition
tips for active individuals and hosts several food based challenges, such as going
sugar free for one month to encourage better eating habits.
STAGE17.ORG stands behind and promotes awareness of sustainable lifestyle
practices, safe helmet use as well as offering reduced priced helmets to
adolescents, and a safer cycling community by advocating for more bike lanes and
bike friendly parks/trails.
