The S & H Seniors Golf League sponsored by the Schaumburg Park District is run by seniors for seniors. Its primary purpose is to (1) meet new friends, (2) have some friendly

competition, and (3) to have fun. The League Season (9-hole only) runs beginning in May thru September. League Membership is open to seniors, both men and women,

ages 55 years and older.

December 2, 2012 -- Year In Review

This fall Dick Koepke stepped down as League Chairman. Dick has been on the Committee for over 25 years and will chair the Finance Committee next year. Mel Szweda will serve as League Co-Chairman and Ed Kelby will serve as League Chairman.

Other changes this year...

• Schaumburg Park District Senior Center handled the Membership and Banquet registration.

• Website software was developed for the Handicap Committee to post scores, calculate handicaps and prepare flights for Special Events directly on the website.

Over 3500 rounds of golf were booked at Schaumburg Golf Club and Walnut Greens. Even with one Special Event rained out, high temperatures and some "cart path only" days, the League completed over 3000 rounds of golf.

In the League sponsored chip-in-pot, 96 golfers chipped in 136 times and shared $605. On the average, 163 golfers signed up for each of the 6 Special Events. The 124 winners of those events shared $2257 in prize money and the top golfers received a trophy. Pepi Irwin, Director of Golf Operations, provided 4 free one-hour Golf Clinics to improve our game.

I would like to thank the League members who volunteered their time and talents to work on the Committee and the Schaumburg Park District Senior Center, Schaumburg Golf Club and Walnut Greens for their continued help, support and advice.

September 3, 2012 -- Awards Banquet Reminder

The forms for the Awards Banquet were mailed out in August. The registration deadline is Friday, September 21. The Awards Banquet will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at The Seville in Streamwood, IL. The price is $19.00 and checks should be made out to the Schaumburg Park District. Completed forms are to be returned to the CRC Senior Center, 505 North Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.

April 3, 2012 -- Golf Clinics

Four free one hour clinics will be held from 8:00 to 9:00 AM on May 4th, May 18th, August 15th and September 12th for the Senior League participants. The clinics will be limited to the first 25 who sign up in the golf shop.

Come into the golf shop or call (847) 885-9000 to sign up.

• Friday May 4th, 2012 - Full swing with an emphasis on driving.

• Friday May 18th, 2012 - Putting, Chipping, and pitching. • Wednesday August 15th, 2012 - Full swing with an emphasis on irons. • Wednesday Sept 12th, 2012 - Putting, chipping and an emphasis on bunker play.

March 10, 2012 -- 2011 S&H Seniors Golf League Members

The 2012 S&H Seniors Golf League organization letter and registration form will be mailed the first week of March to all current 2011 members.

The 2012 S&H Seniors Golf League Organizational Meeting will be held on Tuesday 4/3/2012 at 1 p.m. in the gym at the Schaumburg Park District Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg, IL, 60194. Several 2012 League changes will be addressed at the Organization Meeting and your attendance is strongly encouraged.

The 2012 League registration process is as follows:

• Priority registration for returning 2011 League members will begin at 9 a.m., Tuesday, 3/20/2012 at the CRC Senior Center and end at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 4/3/2012. Mail in registration forms and fee will be accepted as well. The mailing address is: Schaumburg Park District Community Recreation Center, Attention: Senior Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg, IL, 60194. Members registering by mail are responsible for picking up a copy of the Golfer's Guide at the CRC Senior Center. All returning members are assured a 2012 membership if they register before the above deadline.

• The 2012 membership fee is $33 made payable to the Schaumburg Park District. • At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 4/3/2012 at the CRC Senior Center, new member

registration will be open to all seniors both men and women ages 55 and older.

Therefore, if you intend to rejoin the League for the 2012 season, it is highly recommended that you not delay and register promptly prior to Tuesday, 4/3/2012, at 3 p.m.. If you cannot register in person and opt to mail in your registration form and fee, please be prompt in your mailing.

January 6, 2012 -- Happy New Year Senior Golfers!!!

Did someone forget to order winter this year? The lack of snow and warmer temperatures is allowing us to do some practice outside this year.

The 2012 Golf Season has already started:

• 2011 Golf Season is now in the Yearly Archive. • Work on the 2012 Golfer's Guide and Schedule has

started. • The organization letter and registration form will be mailed and be on the web in

March.

Important upcoming dates:

• March 6 - League Committee Meeting, CRC at 9 am. All members are welcome. • April 3 - Organization Meeting, CRC Gym at 1 pm. • May 1 - First Day of Golf.

I'm sure we will eventually have the snow for our cardio exercises. But until then, let's just keep thinking Spring!!!
