    Were excited to share with you the 20122013/5773 AZA and BBG International Awards

    Application. Within this packet, you will find this years International Awards as well asinformation on how to submit your completed applications.

    Celebrating the achievements of Alephs and Bnai Brith Girls is one of our longest standingtraditions. For those of you that have worked hard and dedicated yourselves to the goals ofBBYO, and thereby, the values of Klal Yisrael, the Global Jewish community, we thank you. It isthrough this process we hope to congratulate and honor you for your accomplishments.

    At International Convention 2013: From the Roots We Build in Washington, D.C., well becelebrating the individuals, Chapters, Councils, Regions and Countries that went above and

    beyond in the past year. Our goal is to honor hundreds of recipients from across the globe. You

    do not have to be attending International Convention 2013 to win an award. Your Council,Region or Country leadership will receive it on your behalf and bring your award home to you.

    Please submit all applications to [email protected]. Additionally, please copy your

    Council or Regional staff member on your submission or your application will not be eligible foran award. If youre applying for a chapter honor, please also copy your advisor.

    The submission deadline for all awards is Friday, February 1st at 5PM your localstandard time.

    We cant wait to begin reviewing applications, and we thank you for taking the time to apply forthese prestigious awards that will forever bind your AZA and BBG successes to the histories ofour Order. You are the reason AZA and BBG are impacting more Jewish teens in more

    communities around the world. This has been an unprecedented year for the Aleph Zadik Aleph

    and Bnai Brith Girls and were inspired by what will unfold throughout the rest of the year!

    MENORAH PLEDGE CARDINAL PRINCIPLES AWARD

    Awarded to Alephs and B!nai B!rith Girls who truly embody the Menorah Pledge and SevenCardinal Principles, The Menorah Pledge & Cardinal Principles Award honors those teens thathave dedicated their time and energy to promoting the values of our Order.

    The award also recognizes Alephs and B!nai B!rith Girls who have embraced the ideals of theMenorah Pledge and Cardinal Principles and regularly live by them in all aspects of their life.

    Recipients of this award are nominated by their fellow Alephs and Bnai Brith Girls, making thisan especially noteworthy award. Below are instructions on how to nominate a fellow Aleph orBnai Brith Girl:

    Step 1: Nomination Summary

    Please answer each of the following questions as thoroughly as possible and in no more than250 words.

    1. Why do you feel that your nominee embodies the Menorah Pledge (for BBG) or theSeven Cardinal Principles (for AZA)?

    2. Describe a specific example in which your nominee exemplified the behavior that theMenorah Pledge and the Seven Cardinal Principles embody. How did others react toyour nominee!s effort?

    THE SHIELD OF DAVID AWARD OF THE ALEPH ZADIK ALEPH

    One of the most historic and prestigious honors awarded to an Aleph, the Shield of DavidAward, recognizes Alephs who throughout their tenure in the Aleph Zadik Aleph have displayedoutstanding leadership contributions, a consistent commitment to the fraternity that is AZA, and

    a consistently participated across all tiers of the Order Chapter, Council, Regionally andGlobally.

    The Shield of David Award is based on a comprehensive point system that credits the followingachievements throughout a members participation:

    Fulfilling the duties of office at any level of the Aleph Zadik Aleph.

    Acting as an event coordinator or member of a planning committee.

    Participating in an internationally sponsored AZA contest.

    Contributing to the Alephs Chapter.

    Fulfilling his responsibility of giving the experience of AZA to others through recruitment.

    Every Aleph in good standing is eligible for this award. Awards are earned by accumulatingpoints granted for any combination of the items included in the attached spreadsheet. Uponachievement of varying thresholds, different lapel crest pins are presented in two degrees:

    THE STAR OF DEBORAH AWARD OF THE BNAI BRITH GIRLS

    The Star of Deborah honors Bnai Brith Girls who have made an outstanding commitment toBBG, have displayed a consistent commitment to the sisterhood that is BBG, and who bestexemplify the ideals and principles set forth by BBYO. It is the highest honor a BBG can receive.

    The award is based on a comprehensive point system that credits the following achievementsin a members participation:

    Fulfilling the duties of office on any level of BBG.

    Acting as an event coordinator or member of a planning committee.

    THE ANITA PERLMAN STAND UP AWARD (For Individuals)

    The Anita Perlman Stand UP Award is awarded to those individuals who have worked to StandUP and better their community through consistent and quality community service. Everymember of AZA and BBG who actively participates in his or her Chapters community servicefold, excels in independent community service work, and is regularly immersed in direct/indirectservice, philanthropy or advocacy efforts is eligible to apply for this award.

    Criteria:

    A minimum of 50 hours of community service (both BBYO organized and independent)

    At least one community service or advocacy project planned by the applicant for his/herChapter, Council, Region or Country.

    THE STAND UP MITZVAH CLUB AWARD (For Chapters)

    The Stand UP Mitzvah Club recognizes those AZA, BBG and BBYO chapters around the worldthat conduct at least 36 hours of community service. Participation in direct and indirect service isnecessary. Chapters must do both types of service to be eligible for entry into the Mitzvah Club.

    Direct Service: Direct service activities are those that require personal contact with people inneed. Examples of direct service activities include students working with senior citizens in anintergenerational project, volunteering in a soup kitchen or reading to small children. Directservice teaches responsibility for actions, and the immediate impact is seen or felt.

    ***At least 30 hours of direct service are required to be considered eligible for this award.

    Indirect Service: Indirect experiences involve teens working behind the scenes or in apreparatory or support capacity for a direct service effort or initiative. These activities arecentered on channeling resources to the problem rather than working directly with an individualwho may need the service. Often teens do not come in contact with the people they serve.Examples of indirect service include fundraising, advocacy-based work, collecting food or toysfor disadvantaged families and participating in landscaping in a community park.

    ***No more than 6 hours of this type of activity may be credited toward this awards criteria.

    Members of the Stand UP Mitzvah Club Award will have the press outlets in their community(Jewish and secular) receive an official press release from BBYO about their entry to the club tocelebrate their achievement and receive additional publicity for their admirable contribution.

    The Tree of Life Recruitment Award is an honor given to those Alephs who have played asignificant and lasting part in growing the Aleph Zadik Aleph. As a result of their efforts, theyhave contributed to the strengthening of our Orders future. Open to all Alephs in good standing,

    these young men leave a legacy in their Chapters, Councils, Regions and Countries embracing a new generation to love, cherish and preserve the traditions of the Aleph ZadikAleph and BBYO.

    The Bnai Brith Girls Eternal Light Recruitment Award is open to all Bnai Brith Girls in goodstanding. It recognizes those BBGs who have played a significant and lasting part in growingthe Bnai Brith Girls. As a result of their efforts, they have contributed to the strengthening of our

    THE HENRY MONSKY CHAPTER EXCELLENCE AWARDOF THE ALEPH ZADIK ALEPH

    The Henry Monsky Chapter Excellence Award is the most prestigious honor an AZA chaptercan earn. It requires that the chapter represent top quality in all areas of chapter operations a

    growing membership, diverse and rich programming, healthy chapter organization, andconsistent contributions to, as well as participation in the initiatives and programs led by theInternational Order.

    The Chapters selected for this honor are leaders of the global community of Alephs andexemplify the ideals set forth in the Seven Cardinal Principles.     The Maurice Bisgyer Chapter Excellence Award is the most prestigious honor a BBYO chaptercan earn. It requires that the chapter represent top quality in all areas of chapter operations a

    growing membership, diverse and rich programming, healthy chapter organization, andconsistent contributions as well as participation in the initiatives and programs led by theInternational Order.

    The chapters selected for this honor are leaders of the global community of Alephs and BBGsand exemplify the ideals set forth in the Seven Cardinal Principles and the Menorah Pledge. Allchapters should strive to be awarded placement on this annual honor roll, and this applicationcan be used as a tool to organize a chapters planning each term.
