Carlos UrquidiCareer Technical EducationCarlos Urquidi’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal State University, Los Angeles. While studying for his engineering degree, Carlos worked as a teacher assistant for a middle school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Urquidi believes that it was his experience as a teacher assistant that was his motivation to teach in his current position. Additionally, he is currently enrolled at California State University, Fullerton finishing his Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology in Spring 2012.

After graduating from engineering school, Urquidi started his professional career as a Design Engineer for various engineering firms, preparing construction documents of air conditioning systems. He was fortunate to work with employers with diverse projects and responsibilities and quickly moved up the professional hierarchy to Project Manager. During his employment as an engineer, Urquidi enjoyed training entry-level engineers and felt a strong desire to train people. This desire led him to pursue an educational career and eventually to a position at Cypress College, first as an adjunct faculty member in Spring 2008.

Urquidi is the Academic senate rep for the Career Technical Education Division and the faculty advisor for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers student branch, which he founded at Cypress College in Fall 2009.

Some of Urquidi’s other interests include following current events, attending professional seminars and trade shows related to air conditioning, attending his daughters’ dance and school activities, and enjoying family time. His hobbies include bike riding, swimming and playing computer games with his daughters.
