• Extended deadline for Team Sports registration – 31st October.

After close discussion with the National Deaf Sport Organisations (NDSO) and Sport

Convenors’, it was agreed to extend the deadline for team sport entry until 31st

October. Some sports such as basketball and Futsal wanted more time to organise

enough team entries from the States and Territories. All NDSO’s and State Deaf Sport

Organisations were informed early this month of this change. Not much time left, so

hurry!

Teams sports include:

• Basketball

• Cricket

• Futsal

• Netball

• Rugby 7’s

• Touch Football

If you wish to participate in team sports, contact your State Deaf Sporting Organisation

(see page 13) and your National Deaf Sport Organisation on how to be involved. There

must be at least 3 States / Territories entered in a team sport for the event to held at

the Geelong Deaf Games next year. This will also ensure that points are awarded for the

ADSF Cup.

Those team sports that are demonstration sports including Futsal, Rugby 7’s and Touch

Football, will still continue regardless of the number of States / Territories involved.

Our Games Organising Committee (GOC) wishes those sports to be available to

encourage interest, participation and growth in those new sports.

• Individual Sports registration deadline changed – 1st December.

After a special Sports Convenors’ weekend retreat at Geelong organised by the Games

Organising Committee (GOC), it was clear that we had to chance the closing date for

individual sport registration entry. The reason is that more time was required to

organise the sport program due to Christmas and New year holidays.

If you are interested in participating in individual sports such as athletics, golf, darts

and others, then you must complete your Games registration by 1st December 2011.

No sport entries will be accepted after this date.

Visitor Registration closes on 31st December 2011.

• Games Registration Standard Rate deadline – 31 October

HURRY !!

The GOC is very pleased that the online registration process is working well with many

new registrations being received daily keeping the DSA office busy. For paper

registrations, you can contact DSA and request a printed registration form and pay by

cheque or money order.

• Australian Deaf Games Sports Convenors’ weekend retreat

On the weekend of 7th & 8th October, all Sport Convenors attended a weekend retreat in

Geelong co-ordinated by the Games Organising Committee (GOC) and facilitated by the

GOC Sports Manager, Irena Farinacci. GOC members attended on the Saturday to work

with the Sport Convenors in familiarising themselves with the sport venues as well as

roles and responsibilities. A relaxing and fun dinner on Saturday night was also attended

by members of the Deaf Sports Australia Board. Below are some photos from the venues

visits and workshops which was held at Deakin University (Games Hub venue).

• Sport information – Netball

Netball has been a very popular sport at the Australian Deaf Games since its beginnings.

At the 2012 Games, we have representation from 3 States and a combined team.

For the first time ever, a mixed netball competition has been organised and hopefully

this will become a permanent part of the program at future Games.

• Sport information – Golf

Golf is now becoming very popular amongst deaf people with the Australian Deaf Golf

Association leading the way with regular events being held locally, nationally and

internationally. Internationally, we have done very well in recent years and we also have

young deaf players emerging who have very low handicaps.

Golf will be played at 13th Beach, a beautiful course in Torquay, Victoria.

• Sport Team registration Option

The GOC has been able to offer team registrations to sport teams so that they can take

advantage of block bookings. All National Deaf Sport Organisations and State Deaf Sport

Organisations have been advised that team sports can do block registration booking

through DSA.

Your team needs to register before the 31st October, please contact DSA and provide

the total number of players and officials in the team. DSA will then request payment for

the team and organise online registration with details to come at a later date when the

team is selected.

• Volunteers Needed !!

Volunteers are an important part of the Games success and we are

looking for enthusiastic volunteers who wish to help us out with

the various jobs required.

Some jobs we need assistance in are drivers (12 seater buses), data entry, media,

information packing, catering support, etc. Check out our latest video on information

about being a volunteer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=65kr_q301MM
