The past year has been another exciting one for Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region. We continue our commitment to build relationships with individuals and companies that recognize the value JA brings to our community. The Board has been proud to support Aubrey and her
team in their e ort to grow Junior Achievement’s presence as one of the local organizations contributing to Waterloo Region’s local economy. By grooming future leaders and philanthropists, we lay the foundation needed to ensure this area continues to have a strong and diversi ed economic base. JA delivers on our promise to help local youth experience the excitement of running a business, understanding how to manage their personal nances and learning what will be expected of them when they enter the workplace. Our Christie JA Tech Camp is an example of how we innovate our program o erings in ways that appeal to today’s youth. We change the life of every participant in positive ways. Our sta , Aubrey, and both the Board of Directors and Board of Governors look forward to growing our nancial performance and are dedicated to building a bigger and be er future for Junior Achievement.
Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region will be recognized as an integral part of the education system for providing highly accessible business and lifeskill programs by inspired volunteers that meet the diverse needs of youth, business partners and educators.
Through partnership with educators, business and government, Junior Achievement provides relevant business programs delivered by trained and inspiring volunteers who share their practical experience to prepare students with the necessary lifeskills to enter the work force.

VISION
IN MEMORIUMS
MISSION
As our local economy continues to be driven forward by innovative and creative entrepreneurs, Junior Achievement’s role in fostering the next generation of entrepreneurs has never been more critical than it is today. Every year we foster the belief in our youth that they can realize their dreams –
they can dare to take risks, and that launching their own business isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. We made some signi cant changes to our programs this year to be er nurture and develop young people so that they can be successful and contributing citizens in our community - and quite possibly future entrepreneurs, business and community leaders. Changes to our programs included moving the Sun Life Student Company Program to new creative spaces like TheMuseum and Conestoga College’s Entrepreneurship Centre. We unveiled the Christie JA Tech Camp where campers learned how to build a business around a tech-based product and redoubled our e orts to ensure that every senior public school student in the region experiences our essential life skills program, Economics for Success. We look forward to this new academic year. Our volunteers and students are a joy to work with.
Junior Achievement felt a great loss this year with the passing of three key supporters and JA enthusiasts. We are proud and honoured that Roy Dahmer, Jack Forbes and Mark Kreller devoted their time, energy and resources to ensure Junior Achievement prospered in our community. Their legacy will live on through the young entrepreneurs we continue to nurture with the programs they helped build.
“Say not in grief ‘he is no more’ but in thankfulness that ‘he was’.” - Hebrew Proverb
The Board of Directors and Sta of Junior Achievement are thankful to have had these three gentlemen touch our lives through their endless energy and support over the years.

For over 40 years, JA together with our business, education and government partners, has empowered young people to own their economic success. Last year alone, 9,000 students bene ted from JA programs, delivered by 475 dedicated business volunteers. These volunteers provided over 7,000 hours of instructional time.
GRADES 9 – 12Company Program - A Student Venture inspires high school students to understand the role of business in our society by creating an enterprise of their own. By collaborating with professional volunteer consultants to design, organize and operate a real business, students experience how a small enterprise functions.(In School Student Reach 64;After School 142)This program is o ered as an in-class project for Grades 11 & 12 and as a very rewarding after-school program where students in grades 9 - 12 collaborate with others from across the Region’s high schools.
GRADES 3 – 6The Business Basics Series introduces students to the fundamental concepts of business in a community and global context. Each Business Basics Series program introduces core economic and business principles. The Business Basics Series of four elementary school programs includes:• Our Community - Needs, Jobs, Tools(Student Reach 360)• Our Country - Technology and Innovation (Student Reach 592)• Our Business World (Student Reach 907)• A Business of Our Own(Student Reach 804)
GRADE 7Dollars with Sense demonstrates how students can nancially manage changes in career and life directions. Students play an investment strategies game to learn about e ective spending and how to avoid credit and debt pitfalls. (Student Reach 1,339)
GRADES 7 & 8Economics for Success gives students a new perspective on how informed choices can jump-start their future, today!(Student Reach 3,669)• Understand how every opportunity is a stepping-stone to success• Realize the nancial constraints and demands of independence• Develop employability and interpersonal e ectiveness• Identify resources needed to support a life long career journeyThis program creates the foundation for nancial awareness. It helps kids grow from great young savers into nancially savvy adults - saving, sharing and spending.
GRADES 9 & 10JA Titan is more than just a game. It’s an interactive experience. As a realistic online simulation, JA Titan challenges students to navigate the dynamic changes of our technology-driven global marketplace. The new online version now allows for advanced levels of play, hiring of new sta , and sub-decisions for Marketing and R&D.(Student Reach 1,114)
Our programs are designed to deliver on three educational pillars: Financial Literacy, Work Readiness and Entrepreneurship. The idea of teaching youth how to build a business model around tech based products began as a conversation between Iain Klugman, President and CEO of Communitech and Aubrey Walters, President and CEO of Junior Achievement. The idea was brought to life by JA and in August of 2012, 20 local youth a ended our rst tech camp and were mentored by local industry experts.

This year’s Governors event took place at the “Werlich House” in Cambridge. This home was built in 1845 by Jacob Erb, the Reeve of the village and son of Joseph Erb, founder of Preston. About 100 people game out to enjoy the beautiful grounds in support of Junior Achievement. Thank you to Jola and Mark Chominiec for generously allowing us to use their home as a back-drop for our event. A special thanks to the sponsors for their contributions.
