"Trends on the internet market" is a cyclical publication presenting the internet technology trends in the following countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine as well as the MENA region. All of them are covered by the web analytics tool of Gemius (gemiusTraffic) and participate in the gemiusRanking project. The newly published report is based on gemiusTraffic data for July 2011-December 2011 and provides an insight into the internet browsers, search engines as well as mobile internet on the above-mentioned markets.

• The source of data used in this report is the Gemius web analytics service: gemiusTraffic. It is the number 1 site-centric research in CEE and Denmark, and a popular tool in the Middle East as well as in Israel.

• The data is gathered by scripts embedded in the web sites using gemiusTraffic. Web pages monitored by Gemius act as internet ‘receptors’ collecting data which, after it is aggregated, becomes the basis for gemiusRanking results.

• If no specific country is indicated, the results in the report are aggregated for all the markets. To see detailed weekly rankings for any of the countries visit http://rankingcee.com

Chrome is on the rise,

becoming a menace to the market leaders

Opera maintains small but loyal group of users

Internet Explorer has defeated Mozilla Firefox and took the role of the

market leader in the ranking of the most

popular web browsers

Google dominates the ranking of the most popular search

engines almost in all CEE countries - only Russia and Belarus where Yandex is the market leader constitute an

exception to this CEE rule

Windows – the undisputed leader

continues to dominate the operating systems

market (with almost 95% of page

views)

Windows 7 steadily gains on its popularity,

to the Windows XP disadvantage

While the newest versions of Mozilla browser follow the typical pattern of exchange, the 3.6

version still prevails. This may might indicate

that Firefox 3.6 had features that are worth

9.0 version struggles to replace the

steadfast 8.0 version. This irregularity might be connected with the

fact that 9.0 is not compatible with older versions of Windows

While Windows Vista has not exceeded the

10% of page views threshold in the

second half of 2011, Windows 7 steadily

gains on its popularity, to the

Windows XP disadvantage .

In Russia and Belarus the most popular among all search engines is a local player -Yandex.

In these countries,

Google comes second with just 35% share in

the generated page views.

Mobile market - H2 2011

trends

Nokia – the winner of 2010 - looses its share

on the market, experiencing a decrease

by about 20pp of generated mobile page

views within 2011

As more advanced smartphones appear on

the market, more people use regular

browsers instead of the mobile ones

Samsung has successfully entered the mobile

internet market, with 3 of its products in the top 6

most popular mobile devices models

Symbian is on its way out: the not-so-long-

ago most popular operating system for

mobile devices is now being replaced by iOS on the market leader

position

Apple – the undisputed leader in the ranking of

the most popular mobile devices
